I'm so sad at the lack of care or compassion that so many have displayed in this thread twords the american indians and what happened to them. It's a pity that so many hearts are cold twords the suffering of others.....

Lisa, you plainly fail to discern what's going on here. Innocent white people now alive today, are very sick and f***ing tired of endlessly being blamed for everything that's wrong ith the world, and most especially, being blamed for things that were done by *other white people* before we were even born -- slavery, Indian genocide, crusades, whatever. For additional irony, a lot of those white folks actually have some American Indian ancestry in their lineage somewhere.

Here's the psychology of it: When one is falsely blamed, over and over and over, for some atrocity, after a while when that atrocity is mentioned, your first reaction ceases to be compassion and sorrow, and instinctively becomes DEFENSE instead.

For example, when the shooting spree happened to Gabrielle Giffords et al, a certain Christian I know, MOURNED over the fact that endless years of gun-control activism had blunted his ability to have compassion: "I know my first reaction should have been prayer, sorrow, compassion... but years of getting bludgeoned by the anti-gunners has warped me: my first reaction was, "Here we go again, the bastards are going to use this to disarm the good guys..." That was his automatic reflex, even though he didn't WANT to feel that way.

And so it is with race-blaming. Whites who were deeply saddened about the atrocities of the past when they first learned of them as children, start to take on a very different attitude when they find that they, themselves, are being wrongfully blamed for it today, just because they're white. They first become defensive -- "Hey, don't look at me, I didn't do it!", and later on, after that doesn't work, contemptuous and dismissive as you see on this thread. Their eventual attitude is, "Well, if [aggrieved group X] is so wickedly unfair, as to blame me for something I didn't do, I guess they aren't very nice people after all. Maybe they had it coming... Maybe they were brutal themselves..." And of course, if they look into the history, they'll find that indeed, those groups WERE quite brutal: Indians genocided other Indians, Blacks enslaved other Blacks, etc, LONG before Whites showed up, and so forfeit all claim of moral superiority.

So eat your turkey and give thanks to God already.
