My Cat Is Allergic To Fleas. | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4932681 Canada 11/15/2011 09:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The vet told me this when he was a kitten. When found as a kitten he was basically being eaten alive by fleas. He's 12 now. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4750204 I give him Frontline when I can. But cant afford it right now. I dont see any fleas on him now, but he licks himself incessentley. And the vet told me it was because he's allergic to fleas. Anyway, figure someone out there has got to have some sort of home remedy for this. I hope. Try a powder called Thornit. It is very cheap. |

JadeDone User ID: 2546215 United States 11/15/2011 09:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Diatomaceous earth is great for flea control. I bought a 40lb bag at a feed store for about $30. You need to be certain that you use food grade or feed grade DE. The initial cost may be more than a spot dose and it does take some care to apply- but it is a wonderful, effective alternative to applying pesticides to your pet. Over the course of your cat's life, you will save the cost many, many times. Be sure to keep it out of your pets eyes (and yours as well). Avoid breathing it in, it's abrasive. It is drying to skin and while that does not seem to bother my cats, they do want more water after an application. |

It also works for fleas by dissolving their exoskeletons and eggs but it's pretty minty so avoid the eyes and genital areas! Last Edited by Tuff~Kooky on 11/15/2011 09:36 PM |

My cat will wake up from a deep sleep and start licking himself for what seems like an hour. I feel bad for him, and thats why im looking for something. That sounds more like allergies to something, or boredom. What do you feed him? He's allergice to fleas. His vet said even one bite from 1 flea will send him over the edge. The saliva from the flea I guess is what does the trick. I give him Frontline when I can (purchase it from Austrailia because it's cheaper then local), and a Capstar pill when I can afford it, which works immediately. I comb him regularly with a flea comb to see if he has any, but I've literally only found just 1 in the last 3 months on him. So since the vet said fleas were the culprit, I went with it. Poor guy though, I feel bad for him. |

I've bought the grocery store flea medicine just a few times, typically she uses Advantage or Frontline. She's never really had a problem with fleas so sometimes I even skip a few months but the dog is out and about with me in the woods, etc. and so I have to make sure she's protected all the time. Thank you for the information. I'd love go to a more natural route for both of my pets. |

I really wanted to not go with the big pharma stuff and I tried every natural thing I could find. Nothing worked and my poor cat wound up chewing more than 1/2 her fur off. I finally had to give in and take her in to the vet. She's now on Revolution and I still feel guilty for making her suffer for 6 months while I tried to find a natural remedy. Revolution is $80 for a 6 month supply (6 doses) - but honestly, if I had to, I'd give up a few meals a month to make sure she gets her monthly dose. I guess I'm trying to say that if the natural solutions don't seem to be working, look at what you can cut in your budget to get your kitty the right meds. And don't wait as long as I did. :o( God Bless President TRUMP! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! |
