As far as your compression theory, I could see your point if NASA's photos were completely grainy or appeared to be washed out. Quoting: Volar 4648268 Do you have any idea what compression artefacts are? What they look like in images? What causes them? Here's a hint - they don't cause graininess or "washed out" images...
