"For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. UCD Student User ID: 5716437 United States 11/20/2011 06:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What did she do? All I've heard about UC Davis is some students got pepper sprayed by cops. Quoting: BOSS OF ALL BOSSES She OK'd the police to remove the protesters despite the unobtrusive, nonviolent nature of the protest. Now, let me quickly describe the layout of the quad. The quad is constructed such that it is surrounded by pedestrian paths with a pedestrian path running through the middle. It's a small quad- you an walk across it in only about 1-3 minutes depending on your pace. For the protest itself, no roads were blocked as the protesters camped in the middle of the quad. The encampment was small enough such that it did not cause any inconvenience to those crossing the quad through the middle- walking around the camp was trivial. The tiny camp they had set up was clean, so they weren't a public hazard either. They were making noise, but not enough to reach any of the lecture halls. Their only offense: camping there overnight. They were not informed the following day that their encampment was illegal by UC Davis rules. You asked why people are angry at the chancellor. To elaborate on what I said earlier, people are outraged at how the chancellor ordered the removal of these peaceful, unobtrusive protesters on what is essentially a technicality, and how the removal resulted in our peers being injured. It's insulting. It shows what the chancellor thinks of us, the students. Lastly, it is her duty to appropriately respond to the incident as well as use her power to protect the students' rights. She has failed at both of these duties. |

This is just the most recent one to add to the pile. Between her and the skyrocketing tuition costs, you can say that what occurred friday was more or less the straw that broke the camel's back. |

Why do the OWSers expect preferential treatment? This is what happens when you make spanking a crime. An entire generation doesn't know or accept boundaries and consequences. |

Mr. Toppit User ID: 4452166 United States 11/20/2011 07:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Same question. She should resign because the police pepper sprayed some students? I don't get it. Quoting: BOSS OF ALL BOSSES She is responsible for actions of employees at this campus. When she took this job, she agreed that she would be responsible for any and all actions made by her employees. Chemical warfare on students was not necessary, and it was damn stupid. No, back in the day we respected "civil disobedience" and there are boundaries, but the Chancellor is wrong about where those boundaries are. I'd be interested to see the laundry list of offenses that some ascribe to her. |
