There is no danger. The people in Japan aren't even getting sick, people thousands of miles away have nothing to worry about.

polonium.
plutonium
strontium
cesium
iodine
iodide
sulfur
xenon
californium
americium
neptunium

The amounts of contamination are only beginning to surface.

However. Everyday the amounts are climbing. So there will not be on official count until the reactors are completely decommissioned, and disassembled.

I suppose the good news is they are already half way disassembled.

The bad news is they took the roof off without removing the nuclear payloads.
(Which are currently drilling their way to Egypt).

So to better rephrase the question.

What are the current levels of contamination in the united states of america? & what do these levels suggest in respect to human life forms?

A very tricky question to answer indeed. As particle distribution is dispersed in inequal amounts over both continental as well as trans national oceanic surfaces.

The tricky part is:
In an area with consistently low background contamination levels. Human exposure can still be achieved via fuel flees.

Maybe you live in a safe area. However where does you milk come from. how about your watch, tv, or telephone. Is your rice from japan. what about the rice at your local teriyaki vendor. Or the chickens they mixed in with the teriyaki.

The very real threat is bioaccumulation.
The very real problem is The contamination effected the entire northern hemisphere.
The very real reality, is the amount of contamination has been reported as multi-continental. So everywhere you go, everything you eat, and everyone you see adds to your accumulation level.
The effects of this exposure is then relative "only to their isotope type, and halflifes".

So as your accumulation has already began. Your cells are decaying by the rate that youve consumed these atomic particles.

How bad is this?
That billions of citizens globally are being irridiated on a climbing; While the company responsible is in no position to stop the situation from releasing more dangerous substances to our environment...

Well.
I am afraid you know what the answer is.
You are just like everyone else:

Shocked beyond belief that this has all taken place already. That you are all being slowly killed at this very moment. & That everyday it is getting worse...

Wake up friend.
There is no telling how bad it will get.
We can only really say: It is Horrific! & it has just begun!;

right from what i can tell it's going to get exponentially worse. so just because nobody is vomiting blood *yet* doesnt mean anything

because this wednesday 1000s of kids in japan could be, then next week 1000s in california and oregon.

not literally, of course.... replace "week" with "any given time frame" since I know nothing of how long these effects will take. but from the sounds of it things will get worse and worse

is there any way to fix what's already been done? is japan honestly uninhabitable forever?

Scientists have found the plantlife has mutated and adapted to the high radiation levels, so as to protect their DNA from radioactivity.

We really need to wipe out about 90% of humans, human beings are a cancer to the earth's ecosystem, we are only one species out of thousands, just because they don't have money, or can't speak english, they have a right to exist, they have a right to some good land, good water.

Human beings should all kill themselves out of shame for how they have treated animals.

We need to drastically reduce the human population so that the natural ecosystem can rebound, but we can't really do it with wars, it's too chaotic, they have all sorts of genetically modified bioweapons I guess, but I really fear those would mutate and hurt animals too.

Animals are like innocent children, to harm them makes you worse than a child molestor.

Here is another excellent video on Chernobyl, 25 years later.

I would imagine all that radioactivity in japan is going to drain out into the ocean, overtime, so maybe it will be alot less impacted than Chernobyl in the long run.

All the plutonium and uranium in those reactors was mined from the planet earth, it was already in the earth, only greatly dispersed, it will be even more dispersed in the ocean. radioactive Uranium IS a natural substance. People have been bathing in radioactive hotsprings for along time, believing them to be healthy.

the reason CESIUM is deadly is because it chelates potassium in the human body, there is so much potassium in the ocean water it would be insignificant.

I may be a retard, but at least I know my punctuations and capitalizations.

Humans don't have to try to be anything, we just are.
Do you honestly think we will ever be able to go back to living green, in harmony with nature? Unless something happens and wipes out 90% of us, where the remaining have to start all over, it won't happen. And even then I see it doubtful, as what is left of our scientific inventions will be used to gain knowledge and start the process all over again.

Our oh-so-great intelligence will be our downfall. Lest an asteroid or something wipes ALL of us out first.

There is uranium in nature but it is not enriched uranium. Which is far more dangerous. And plutonium does not exist in nature in any significant quantity. Each nuclear reactor produces about 500 pounds of plutonium a year. Chernobyl was only 50 tons of uranium and they started to cover it up in a few weeks after the accident and it required 1/2 million men to accomplish this task, or it would have poisioned all of Europe. There are credible estimates that close to 1 million people died from Chernobyl. Fukushima could be many times worse then this, being that there is 2000 tons of uranium and some of this is MOX fuel as well. But we really don't know yet how bad this well turn out, because its currently ongiong with no end in site!

This is why fast breeder reactors like the ones Iran built are illegal, because they produce large amounts of unnatural radioactive isotopes. If those blow they spew alot more dirty stuff all over.

But originally, 'enriched' uranium just meant separating the naturally occuring u235 from the natural u2378

thank you for watching that with me, that was some stunning photography/cinematography, wasn't it?

I watched the second documentary, called Chernobyl's radioactive wolves and that was just as excellent, I thought the part about the Beavers was fascinating. Beavers can transform all the marshes humans drain back into marshes in 25 years. They damn all the rivers up and flood the flood plains and that causes the animal life to explode.

Also, if you think this explosion in Fukushima was bad, if a fast breeder reactor like in Iran went critical it could be alot worse. Fast Breeder reactor means as the nuclear reaction proceeds, it produces more and more fissionable fuel, they have to stop the reaction and de-concentrate the plutonium and U235. The u235 and plutonium is then used in nuclear bombs.

Fast breeder reactors are banned by international treaty for two reasons really. 1, they are extremely dangerous, and 2. you can use them to make lots of nuclear bombs quickly.

It was absolutely stunning! Though I couldn't help but think about how they managed to film it, considering the radiation. Would they not be exposed? And how up close they got to these wild animals.

But absolutely a wonderful watch. Warmed my heart to the core.
There is beauty in this world still :)

I'll have to watch the one with the wolves as well!

can you explain further? like, so no other countries currently use this style of reactor why would iran be looking to build one? they are cheaper maybe?

also what is their difference from, say, a reactor in the USA or Japan?
