The name Russia comes from the word ''Rus''.
Rus comes from the Finnish word Ruotsi meaning Sweden.
Ruotsi comes from Old Norse Róthr, meaning ''rowing''.
FACT : The ancient Russian dynasty, the Romanovs, were literally descendents of the Varangians, i.e. the Eastern Vikings. They created a large number of settlements and forts that created the future Russian State.
FACT : Normandy (France), England, Sicily, Prussia (Germany) were all settled and conquered by Vikings. The royal bloodlines all have the Viking remains in them.
FACT : Barack Obama is probably descended from Vikings through his mother's genealogy.

You are correct that the Rus were the original Russians, and that they were (pre) Vikings, but the Romanovs have a different extraction. They are a Roman and Alpine Germanic blend. Just look at their family name - ROMANOV ie FROM ROME!
