One of the things that never gets mentioned with this sort of thing - is the effect it would have on aircraft in flight, like airliners.
What if this big solar storm incapacitates the generators attached to the engines?
This would be catastrophic for these Airbus airliners, that are fully Fly By wire controlled!
Boeing airliners still retain manual/wire linkages I believe.
So they should be safer to fly in.
Also - ground based radar may be cut off, and all airliners are radar vectored nowadays into landing at airports.
