Sure seems odd that these are the types of responses this questions generates.Friends and relatives of mine all over the country see the same phenomenon.
It certainly is strange for that large an economic segment to be dominated by one ethnic group, and a foreign one at that.
Wonder what the Dilling crowd would say if Jews were running all the convenience stores.

Well in my neck of the woods most covenience stores are owned by Koreans.

one guy comes over, gets a place, is successful, loans to friends and relatives at near-zero percent interest (probably zero). So, you get a mutual-help network going of related folks, all going into businesses that the other members are already familiar with.

OK seriously, many immigrants to this country can get a low interest loan from various ethic societies to start their own business. I discovered this when there was tensions between the blacks and koreans in NYC. The koreans can obtain private loans to open their stores in black neighborhoods....much to the dismay of the blacks. Its not an enviable job tho. Many of the immigrant families work long hrs in the store 24/7 in questionable neighborhoods to move up in American life. Once they made enough money to open a better business, the store is sold to another "fresh off the boat" family. I got this info from a Korean friend.

I asked a girl who was working one of those kiosks in the mall how so many of them come over here and are able to own businesses. She said our government has programs and basically gives them money to start and run businesses, along with health care and other benefits.

FUCKED UP!

It´s only a matter of time before whitey gets knocked down a few more times and comes back with a vengeance. Similar to the way you can´t take certain behaviors out of other ethnicities, those of european and caucasian ethnicities, when pushed too far, not only retaliate, but do so relentlessly.

I already did know there were a lot of Korean owned stores in black areas of big cities.I had not heard of Arabs much, though.
But definitely, the Indians are in the majority, from my experience, by a really large margin.That is why the character on the Simpsons is so stereotyped.
So, the story from the Kiosk girl at the mall is that they get these loans and grants from our gov´t,which is basically what I had heard.
But it is also basically what I don´t understand: How does a foreigner qualify for U.S. gov´t assistance?
So, 1639--if you can, ask the girl at the mall if they have to obtain their citizenship first, before they get the loan or grant.If not, I don´t see how it can be legal.

I work with a large company from India. I had same impression at first from experience with the stores. However, after get to know them and customs most are very, very, very nice.

However, like anyone, regardless of culture, there are a few that are rude and inconsiderate.

The reason appears so many own businesses, is because they treat all family members, including extended and inlaws, etc the same. So if nephew needs help with starting business and so does son, both are treated equal. I think we could learn from that personally.

Many come from conditions we wouldn´t fathom living in. (i.e. dirt floors) In summary, they are very appreciative of opportunities here, and we don´t realize what we have - that is the reputation of Americans we appear to have to them- very spoiled, thankless and throw money away. For example, $1 is alot for them, and we think nothing of buying a candy bar for that. Or how majority of American households have a car / vehicle of some type, where they are thrify and will share one between families here. So by their culture standards, Americans are obscene with how money is spent and they have a hard time understanding that.

I do believe those in other cultures help each other out in this area, at least that´s what I have seen. They seem to keep close ties with their family and extended family. I didn´t realize that they got all these low interest loans, though.

I have never felt any sort of rudeness or animosity from any of another culture while owning a convenience store or gas station. They usually seem very nice, with the exception of one huge jerk that was Indian that worked at this gas station off of I-35 in Dallas. He was unbelievably rude, and I couldn´t figure out what HIS problem was. He seemed to radiate intense hatred. Very unusual, at least in my experience.

$1 might go much farther in another country ... here, it really isn´t that much. Our cost of living is so much higher.

Well, whatever the reason they own these stores is irrelevant to me. To me, the Indians from India are the most peaceful race on the planet. The more the better. BUTT!!!!!! On that note, I will say that convienence stores are now forever change with the advent of ownership change. If you will remember those "good ol days" in the sixties and the early seventies when good customer service exited, what do I mean by this? I mean that there was always a restroom available, there was a colder store, the cooler, where the drinks are was always cold!!! And there were always DAMN NAPKINS AVAILABLE!!!! So with the advent of all these new cultures come change. The Indians are extremely conservative. So now that makes us conservative, willing or unwilling. Now you have to deal with it!!!

Most of them own several stations. They are planning on taking over and the best way is to control the sales of the backbone of America. When TSHTF, they will close up shop and burn the bitch down. No stations no gas. No gas, no food. No food, no life.

They just keep rotating every 7 years and never have to pay taxes.

They own all the motels. I talked to one owner and he said that when they found a motel to buy they just put out the word to the extended Indian community and money flows in. When they are set up, and the word comes that money is needed, they are bound by honor to send money also.

It's kind of like the jewish community about sharing money.

Common white folks don't share shit. If you need money, go to a bank and don't bother me. And that, my friends, is why the white folks are going down. They won't stick together like the rest of the worlds people do. White people won't even defend their reputation lest they be considered a racist.

Fucked up, indeed! What about the other low percentage of peeps who also want to start a business? Do WE get any help from our 'loving' US Gov't???? NOT!!! That totally sucks, IMO! Fair is fair - or should be! There's too many people out of jobs and out of luck thanks in great part to overseas outsourcing. Listen, if THEY can get a low-interest loan, that regular, hard-working Americans should also be given the same opportunities! That really sucks!
