You do understand that Niman is the biggest fear mongering turd in the bowl?? In 2006 he was all about H5N1, while H3N2 was the predominant strain. In 2009 He was all about the plague like death numbers that H1N1 would induce and now??? He's all about hyping any predominant strain to bolster his business subtyping and patterning vaccine strains. Read the conspiracy subforum on his site and read his drivel.

another point for the fearmongers, Bird flu enjoys the warmer/higher body temperatures of birds. that is why it is conducive to spreading in warmer climes. It will also cause flu season to be earlier/later then average. So folks, there's nothing to see here. So go out and make another corporation billions w/ your naivety.

I'm not sure I trust getting a vaccination though.

Something about it doesn't seem right.

This whole thing seems....eerily staged.

 Quoting: Dionysian Fullaflatus

Of course you should disregard this Thread and some peoples concern about the potential that a flu strain could arise that will wipe out 60% of the population. Please specifically disregard that three strains have combined and crossed over from swine to human this year; that 90% of the H3N2 flus typed this year are H3N2v containing some of the worst contagion elements of 2009 H1N1; and that the time between new pandemic strains has shortened from 40 to 20 to 7 to ?(2) years. Someone making CDC do a thorough effort to make early identification of these potentials is only trying to scare and make money. If he were hawking a cure I might agree. I think he is doing what he is best at in attempting to forestall the inevitable. Who knows. Perhaps through his efforts and those who are being watchful we may in fact save our own life by using D3, silver whatever, tree bark or ... It may be that some will be able to avoid having to take the Mark of the Beast in some future pandemic that requires you take in order to get government approved vaccine.

Eventually a real and deadly flu pandemic will come, but so far, I'm not seeing it. It's all the hype right now. They're just planting their seeds of fear right now.

You should realize that they do this almost every flu season, and it is so they can make billions of your fears.

Think about the past 10 years or so... it started with SARS in china, bird flu, bird human and swine flu, swine flu, and now this one again this season.

And yes, most flu strains that have come along in the past 10 years have been created in a laboratory.

The guy Nieman at Recombinomics decided to report on Bird Flu in China, the first death there in 18 months after days and days of prodding CDC about the new swine flu variants. Then he went on vacation or something? WTF. Maybe he is about to call all clear on the variant flu virus scare since there does not seem to be a lot of it about and no deaths. It appears to not be reistant to treatment and if it were otherwise we should either see huge numbers reported in the next CDC report for ending week or drop the scare level back down to .5. I am hearing of people in many areas reporting flu but apparently only seasonal flu since the numbers for H3N2v is just not there in the weekly report numbers.

Our dogs are getting this new flu also? Look at the list and you will see mostly different birds, & swine. But there is also a list of "canine".
The official CDC position is copied here:
"
What is the risk to humans from this virus?

To date, there is no evidence of transmission of canine influenza virus from dogs to people and there has not been a single reported case of human infection with the canine influenza virus. While this virus infects dogs and spreads between dogs, there is no evidence that this virus infects humans.

However, human infections with new influenza viruses (against which the human population has little immunity) would be concerning if they occurred. Influenza viruses are constantly changing and it is possible for a virus to change so that it could infect humans and spread easily between humans. Such a virus could represent a pandemic influenza threat. For this reason, CDC and its partners are monitoring the H3N8 influenza virus (as well as other animal influenza viruses) along with instances of possible human exposure to these viruses very closely. In general, however, canine influenza viruses are considered to pose a low threat to humans. As mentioned earlier, while these viruses are well established in horse and dog populations, there is no evidence of infection among humans with this virus."

The list is from a post by the Recombinomics owner, Niman.

This really sucks.
"In South Korea, where avian influenza virus subtypes H3N2, H5N1, H6N1, and H9N2 circulate or have been detected, 3 genetically similar canine influenza virus (H3N2) strains of avian origin (A/canine/Korea/01/2007, A/canine/Korea/02/2007, and A/canine/Korea/03/2007) were isolated from dogs exhibiting severe respiratory disease. To determine whether the novel canine influenza virus of avian origin was transmitted among dogs, we experimentally infected beagles with this influenza virus (H3N2) isolate. The beagles shed virus through nasal excretion, seroconverted, and became ill with severe necrotizing tracheobronchitis and bronchioalveolitis with accompanying clinical signs (e.g., high fever). Consistent with histologic observation of lung lesions, large amounts of avian influenza virus binding receptor (SAα 2,3-gal) were identified in canine tracheal, bronchial, and bronchiolar epithelial cells, which suggests potential for direct transmission of avian influenza virus (H3N2) from poultry to dogs. Our data provide evidence that dogs may play a role in interspecies transmission and spread of influenza virus.....Because all genes of the canine isolates were of avian influenza virus origin, we concluded that the entire genome of the avian influenza virus had been transmitted to the dogs. Transmission of avian influenza A virus to a new mammalian species is of great concern, because it potentially allows the virus to adapt to a new mammalian host, cross new species barriers, and acquire pandemic potential."
