I say go for it - perhaps if you don't need it, a percentage can be given back, on a sliding scale, based on income ...

I liked the theory of instead of the usa bailout, giving each person 1 million dollars, which is still far less than the bailout money, and everyone would go crazy spending and investing and saving and the economy would have been kickstarted.

It does seem like most Americans would have paid off their mortgages, thereby reimbursing the banks and still have money left over to buy a car and go on a fancy vacation and for some of us buy a second car and have a few wonderfully abundant Christmases...it makes one wonder just how much the banking system scammed America...

This could work as long as this allowance isn't higher than the lowest salary that can be earned monthly at a job.

With this allowance, jobless guys living at home with their parents will go out and purchase more stuff and boost the economy.

If I was given an extra $1000 a month I would rejoin my gym, buy more books, and just spend more. I might even take a class.

This is a great idea. Go Japan!! If this works, other nations will soon follow their example.

Actually our economy would stop! If everybody were given a million bucks at the same time, everybody would stay home from work trying to spend their money.

It could work in Japan, they don't have immigration into their social security systems. Oh wait, that's what they get here anyway. So it's a good idea.

It's not much, and would also be given to the working people. This is actually an advantage for the working people. They don't get benefits now.

If Japan enacts this, it will go the way of the Soviet Union and collapse in on itself. It will breed a nation of unproductive parasites (OWSers).

They're probably contemplating this as an incentive to keep their citizens, especially the young folks, in the country -- otherwise, considering the radioactive pollution and the ever-aging population, the youngsters would probably run away as soon as they grasp the full extent of the #$%^& they're facing in the future. Alaska does the same thing -- giving residents big tax breaks just for living there.

Since the entire population will be dying of cancer within 1 year anyway, this is a cheap way to maintain domestic tranquility.

By all means give every person a substantial lump sum of money, but make it conditional on them putting it in an account and not spending it at faster than say $1000 - $1200 per month. That way, people are financially secure, but will still need to work, while able to afford a deposit for a new car or "white" goods etc. The banks will have access to the money in accounts which they can lend out and the economy will be encouraged by incoming orders. Hopefully, limiting the monthly spend will keep inflation under some degree of control.

However, I can just see now how politicians would react to the suggestion of giving money they can't control to the likes of us. Still, it's a nice thought. NESARA anybody?

Basically it's no different than giving jobless people social security checks/unemployment. You just cut the application step and administration/paper work and hand it out automatically.

For those earning more than the basic income everything stays the same.
