Anyone else have problems with the USPS side of this new delivery system called UPS SUREPOST? UPS delivers packages to USPS, and then they are supposed to deliver it to you.

Internet retailers are using it to save costs. USPS always takes days to weeks to deliver even though the package arrives in town in 1-3 days. WTF is wrong with USPS? Why don't they just go out of business already!

IMHO it's UPS that should go out of business, taking some idiot politicians with them; SurePost takes advantage of a loophole that was opened up to allow private shipping companies to dump packages into the postal system at below fair market value, forcing delivery onto USPS. USPS hates it, which is why you get no help at all from them.

I ordered from Tiger Direct, and stupidly, because it was a small item, I elected to have the economy shipping. Guess who? Sure Post. I have my mail sent to a P.O. Box, so UPS dropped it at the regional PO, who sent it to the nearest metropolis for processing so it could be "forwarded" to the PO that holds my PO Box (which by the way is 3.8 miles from the regional drop). So, UPS got it to the PO in three days, USPS sends it all over the place and I can expect it sometime this week (meaning a net delivery time of 8-12 work days). Shipping from a city 144 miles from here, and it will end up traveling almost 350 miles over two weeks. Stupid and inefficient.

This must be how my package is being delivered.

I ordered from Country Outfitter and they shipped the next day. According to the UPS tracking information the package was delivered 3 days later to the regional post office. There was a USPS tracking number included so I checked it. There was no indication that the USPS had received the package, although the number was in their system. I called the USPS and was told that they weren't required to update the status and that if I haven't received the package in 2 WEEKS I should call back.

So much for free shipping. I never had a problem like this with Amazon, or any other vendor for that matter.

A benefit with Surepost (believe it or not) is that your package, ultimately delivered by the USPS, could be delivered on a Saturday, which typically would not be the case with UPS ultimate delivery.

Over the past month I've had Surepost packages arrive at a local mail station in the general vicinity but still significantly far away (20 or more miles) the night before and then delivered in the morning's USPS mail--typically not the case with straight UPS deliveries.

Perhaps Surepost has been improved--for me, it's typically been faster, by one or more days, than straight UPS shipments.

I don't see why everyone is bashing UPS SurePost. You're paying for economy shipping, people! Don't expect to have something so fast! If you want that, you can just pony up the extra cash and spring for that fast shipping! Also, keep in mind that shipping and delivery times may vary depending upon the origin of said item, and your distance from that origin. Here's what I have to say about this. I just ordered myself a Minnesota Wild shirt off of FansEdge yesterday, and it just shipped out today. Now granted, the current status on UPS' website says that the label has just been created, but, I also just checked the location of where it's going to be shipping from (IL), which should hopefully make the transportation of the item I ordered pretty fast to my location (MN). I've never had problems with getting things slowly with the Postal Service, and I sure hope that doesn't change anytime soon.

The problem occurs when you're "given" this crap shipping "option" without your knowledge, as with Midway USA.

Surepost sucks and takes longer. I my intention was to cause a major delay to my order, I'd not pay for another to do it for me - I'd drive to the store and pick up the item myself.

One very important aspect of this seems to be overlooked. Not everyone gets mail delivered to their door. So it's not just a question of delivery "speed", but delivery at all. When I order something on-line, I choose UPS over USPS because the driver brings it to my house. If something gets shipped by USPS, they leave a card in my mailbox (which is 1/2-mile away) and then I have to drive 12 miles to the Post Office.

My moronic insurance company has switched from USPS delivery to this newfangled UPS Surepost. When they mailed my Meds it took from 4 to 7 days (depending upon holidays and weekend) but now by inserting UPS into the system it is taking over 2 weeks. Come to think of it, my current shipment is now at 15 days and counting.I wonder what my RX provider gains by switching since both USPS and UPS pick up shipments. Thank you so much, Caremark, for inserting UPS into the shipping stream and more than doubling transportation time. At least I don't have to worry about what strange place UPS might drop my meds (United Parcel Service seems to feel that if it is in the same state as the address that it is close enough) since the Post Office shall be doing the actual delivery.

OK, Got my meds today and I guess it must all be fault of the USPS. UPS gave USPS my package on the afternoon of 10/4 and that lazy USPS did not deliver my package until the afternoon of 10/5. Yep, the Post Office fault...it took them a little over 24 hours to deliver (talk about a snail pace) while speedy UPS only had it for 14 DAYS (that is about twice as long as it used to take my meds to get to me via USPS only).

Oh, yeah, Why does this site keep deleting my name and substituting "anonymous coward"?

SurePost is the worst! If the option is UPS standard shipping, that's what I expect. I don't care that it would take a week to get my package, but I want a tracking number. If I knew it would be transferred to the local post office to complete delivery, I would NEVER choose that option and these businesses should let their customers know that they are using that option so we have the choice to go that route or not. I'm in DC and my experience has been that these packages are NEVER delivered and, of course, there's no tracking number after the USPS receives the package. So according to UPS, the package has been delivered when it really hasn't. My order through SpreadShirt is as good as gone and i'm getting a refund. Talk about irritating!bsflag

I live west of Austin, TX and the SurePost method has resulted in the longest shipping times I have incurred, in the 20 years I have been here. UPS delivers a package to a USPS station sometimes days from here, then ships via USPS. The earleis I've received a package is 6 days, unlike UPS, Fed Ex or USPS that will deliver in 1-3 days.

Surepost surely does suck. UPS handles the package fine on its way to you, just like UPS Ground. Sadly when it gets to your town, they deliver it to the post office, which then adds on at least another day, maybe three.

Re: UPS Surepost, You'll surely not get your package in a few days, USPS will most likely take a week or longer to deliver your package.
So THAT'S IT! It must be surepost. I live in a small town with no post office so we share the same zip as the town next to us. But our USPS po box is in a different town's zip. I always read or ask very carefully HOW packages are being shipped because of our strange address. And I've never had problems getting packages delivered until last January. I ordered from Target twice and both were returned to the warehouse as "undeliverable". I recently had the same thing happen with an order from Children's Place. I thought it was a computer error. If I type in my physical address and zip (next town over-we don't have one), knowing that it is a UPS delivery, the computer automatically "corrects" the town and puts in the town next door, and of course there is no street with my house there. Therefore, it goes to a warehouse for redistribution to stores. This finally explains why I haven't gotten packages when it wasn't a problem at all in the past as long as I knew HOW things were shipped. I can't be the only customer that lives in a small town with no post office....major glitch in the system!

And something tells me I can probably kiss the Land's End order good bye that I am supposed to receive on Tuesday...

I'm have been amazed at the inefficiency of UPS Surepost, and wondered how the sender could pay both UPS and USPS and save money. My last shipment from Vitacost may shed some light. The package was shipped UPS from Greensboro, NC on 11-20. It arrived at the UPS center a few miles from my home in the KC area at 6:27PM on 11-21. The local USPS got the package delivered to them at 12:24PM on 11-27 (USPS delivered it at 11:53AM on 11-28 - less than 24 hours!). THE PACKAGE SAT IN THE UPS FACILITY FOR 6 DAYS!!! I'm guessing UPS has the green light to handle Surepost packages without any need to hurry - just fit them in whenever. Customers should be advised when Surepost is how things will be sent.

Apparently the object of using SurePost isn't to save the customer money, because I was charged $12.99 shipping for a 5 lb parcel of cookies, which is higher than regular UPS or FedEx rates.

Re: UPS Surepost, You'll surely not get your package in a few days, USPS will most likely take a week or longer to deliver your package.
When the package comes into the ups facility in the morning and is placed on a conveyor belt out o an 18 wheeler, it is scanned and a small label with a four letter word followed by a four digit number is placed upon said box on it's way down the belt. That just tells them what route and where it goes in said package truck. Now when it it's surepost and comes in it goes off a side belt to person who bags all the surepost packages into big bags, and has a label with the USPS address on it, and that route Id sticker. It goes on the package car and is delivered to the postal service the same day it comes into the ups facility. So theoretically it should be delivered by the postal service the very next day. Hope that helps.

I was traveling and ordered a small package, expecting delivery in 3 or 4 days. When it didn't show up I called and found out it was shipped Surepost.

Sitting around waiting I Googled Pony Express and read that the distance the Pony Express traveled was almost exactly the same distance my package would travel.

Pony Express delivered in 10 days Surepost took 13.

UPS is the good one where I live. They always deliver to me, as addressed.

It's Fedex that sucks. They will not deliver as addressed.
they dump somewhere close, claiming online it's been delivered, when they didn't even knock, and there was no notice either. I put up with it for a couple of years, but this week I fought back.

Walmart shipped a package with Fedex. But they didn't deliver here. So, after 3 calls to Fedex, I'm sure the driver got reemed today, but in one ear and out the other.
I called Walmart and told them to reship with UPS, or refund my money. They are refunding as they don't use UPS.
Too bad, I told them. Because fedex doesn't guarantee delivery as addressed. That's right. And Walmart uses them anyway.
I told the lady at Walmart on the phone that until they used UPS, I would no longer be shopping with them, and the Fedex driver could pick up the package where ever he left it and send it back to them.

This was just a bad idea. There's too many hands on your parcel. Im a letter carrier. This "surepost" is just embarrassing. Most of these things we get
1. Look like they have gone through a haybaler.
2. Have different addresses all over them. YOUR address
is somewhere on the parcel in almost microscopic print.
3. The USPS barcode I'm supposed to scan for your protection
is often obliterated,rendering it useless.
4. UPS apparently drops these off at the post office
"delivered" when often the address is wrong, illegible,or
just plain mangled.
We at the post office are trusted with your parcels. The
big rigs, planes, and processing plants run 24/7. I just don't know what our bosses were thinking. Theres nothing like looking like a bumbling fool to the customers.
