"rich" people use credit cards that they default on. "poor" people use food stamps. Either way, debt is spent into the system and the fiat economy rolls on.

I have a solution to all of these problems. No more government assistance, ever. We phase that stuff out slowly. No more blacks versus whites, no more inequality, and no more arguments about what people should and shouldn't be allowed to eat (that's immoral and the opposite of freedom anyway). In a world without food stamps people have to go where the work is and live in little shacks just like during the great depression. Some people would say that's messed up, I would say that is freedom. The freedom to live and work in a country that doesn't provide everything for you and restrict how you can live your life.
No more EBT, no more welfare, and no more nanny state. It's expensive, immoral, and creepy to take another person's life and dictate how they can live it.

Why are people so mean to the poor in usa. The system is set up to make it very difficult to get by there. More and more people there from the middle class have lost their jobs and their homes. To sneer at these people because they use food stamps for a starbucks coffee. Sometimes people like to have treats it can make them feel good about their bad situation. I live in Australia and we dont seem to have the problems that America is facing, are the people on this thread so financially well off that they feel they can despise the poor and unlucky. It breaks my heart when i read about the homeless and families struggling to get by over there. If I lived in America i would seriously leave as it seems a cruel place to be. Some of you should be worried about if you too could end up homeless or jobless, the way the situation there seems to be going.

The rich do not despise the poor. The government pits the two classes against each other constantly in a phantom battle. The rich love the poor because the poor buy the useless gadgets the rich produce. What the real battle here is, is in education. Rich people are smarter, more lucky, or more cunning then those who are poor. When you say poor you think of someone who has to have the government as their father to get them out of hard times. That is not freedom. That is akin to a totalitarian system in which the rich are robbed of the fruits of their labor to give to the poor. The comedy of the whole situation is that the poor buy trinkets from the rich who then pay for the poor to have food. Granted there are poor people who have nothing. But what of the poor who have big screen tvs? Xboxes?
Some would say they are entitled to those things, I say not so much. I have been poor most of my life and have had to sell everything I own a couple of times just to make it buy. There for awhile I had a car and the public library to keep me going and that was it. It was my fault those situations happened. If I would have been more wise and more proactive that would have never happened to me. I am still not well off. I still have to live with my family because of the terrible choices I have made. But what I don't do is take a government hand out. I work hard and get by. I live under a mountain of debt. Who's fault is it that I have that debt? Is it the rich who "tricked" me into buying things I didn't need? Who made me not work so hard? No, it was my own fault.
Responsibility and self education go a long way to a road of success. Government hand outs should never be an option.

I grew up poor. Hell, I was even ugly. Got 3 degrees, teeth fixed, and make good money (in California). I talk like a hick from the south. Have several scars down my chest to fix heart problems...have a man who is a lawyer. Give to the poor (not to say any of the rich gave me squat), and am happy. But who in the hell is Obama to say I make too much and I need to give MY MONEY to redistribute the wealth? I PAID for my education. And when the 49 percent pay NOTHING and the 97% pay less than 10%....FUCK THEM!!!

I hardly think that you paid for your education out of your own pocket, at least not the first degree unless you were lucky to get hired at 18 with a high paying job with no qualifications or experience. In other words, in fantasy land.

Obama's not going to raise your taxes. Those millionaires who are able to orchestrate paying lower taxes deserve their taxes to be raised.

And it's not 200 hours; it's 200 minutes. They had to come up with the cell phones because the 'disadvantaged' kept breaking into all the pay phones and stealing the money in them. One could always use a pay phone free for 911 calls in the past but there aren't too many left where the public can get at them unsupervised.

Not all states or counties provide that cell service, by the way. The individual states have to fund it and they don't have equal money to spend on social programs. The other reason for implementing Safelink was domestic violence, which is rampant these days.

This isn't poor-bashing, it's parasite-bashing. So far, it's just verbal but it probably won't stay that way if we're to survive as a nation. It doesn't do to support people that hate your guts anyway at the expense of your own kind. The term in scripture is 'nourishing vipers at your breast.' It's not safe.

Do you guys really think that if we cut the welfare programs taxes would go down??? I doubt it theyd jus reappropriate the funds. I have been on welfare in the past and it is a good tool to use if you need it (I got laid off by a factory here in the us and was denied unemployment due to the fact that this company misreported my wages....BTW i was off the public assistance in 3 months. During my 3 months my spending money was $12.50 every two weeks.)If thats how people want to live because they have no ambition then thats theyre descision. Now i agree that there are people that take advantage of the system. But this happens with any system we have. And by cutting these programs we would only be hurting the people that actually need these programs (i.e. the elderly and disabled) as the leeches would just find a new way to leech. and btw if we cut all aid to the poor america would become like a 3rd world country faster than you could snap your fingers.

You're likely right about the taxes and I think everybody here knows that much. Taxation was never about helping anybody but the thieves extorting the money from us and it was going on before all these social programs became so prevalent.

My own state just cut some funds out of programs to help poor seniors - but - at the same time, they don't even require you to prove American citizenship to get EBT and clerks in the offices are 90% Mexicans anyway. I worked as a translator in one of those offices and almost never saw anyone there who could even speak English. Why are we supporting utter dross like that? Why not cut out all foreign aid instead of gouging our aid programs for our own poor? The whole system is corrupt and needs to be torn down completely and rebuilt to benefit the people that actually pay for it: American working people.

I think the poor need foodstamps these days as their pay is not covering the high cost of food. BUT..to go to Starbucks and use them, that is wrong imo. Healthy foods should only be bought with them from grocery stores and the like. I would never use a foodstamp card to buy starbucks treats, just wrong. What's next ? Five star restaraunts ?

HOMELESS and those without a temporary residence are given a special card to use at some fast food restaurants since they may not have a place to cook. A EBT card holds cash benefits as well which is why it can be used at atm's. The only people that get welfare cash benefits are those enrolled in school or working, and believe me its not enough for you to be whining about here. There will neveer be enough jobs for everyone, 57 million job seekers and 300,000 available jobs. so pick a side, welfare or worker, if your a worker, count your "blessings" that you have a job and stop downing those who cannot find one. BTW, my ex has a bachelors degree in engineering, applied everywhere and still has'nt found a job in over a year, and paid hefty money going to college.
