What´s he done now?

I was just playing "Tea for the Tillerman" a few days ago and marveling at Cat Stevens´ genius.

I also can admire the fact that he put his spiritual journey ahead of producing music and making money.

No. Just another religious fanatic. Bad singer.

I said Cat Steven. Not his new nom de guerre.

I think most of the saints who have made their ascension would be labeled "religious fanatics" by the spiritually ignorant today.

A recent Jesus quote discussed on another thread comes to mind ...

MATTHEW 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

My life is a continual testing of what I believe. I don´t believe anything that isn´t tested and supported by experience.

But "proof" is hard to come by. What do you know that you can prove? And I mean real proof not your conspiracy theories.

Re: DO YOU STILL LIKE CAT STEVEN ?Quote

Some mathematical theoroms are provable. And some can be proven to be un-provable. But to prove whether Saint Joan of Arc really talked to God or not, for example, is virtually impossible.

In fact if "GOD the FATHER" spoke out loud to you right now, you would have a heck of a time proving whether it was really GOD speaking to you or just your drug addled brain hallucinating.

Me too. Fanaticism is the problem. Whether you are a health food fanatic or a religious fanatic or a sports fanatic you are screwed up.

I´m also down on "religion" personally. By religion I´m talking about a set of "beliefs" that one has to believe in order to belong to the religion. I am more interested in finding the spiritual path that I can make the most progress on. Each person may need to walk a unique spiritual path which may be totally different from another´s spiritual path. To force everyone to walk the same spiritual path is "religion" in my mind.

But at the same time I do believe there is Truth with a capital T that does not vary from person to person.

Cat Stevens, yes I remember him. Tea for the Tillerman and Buddha and the Chocolate Box were my two favorite albums. Lost them both, however, I think my kids got them. Lots of Love and Wisdom in Cat Stevens´ songs. I used to listen to his tunes everyday.

"What the hell does this have to do with Cat Stevens?"

Well, Krapper, it has a lot to do with understanding Cat Stevens. You see, Cat Stevens had a near death experience that changed his life.

He had gone swimming at the house of Jerry Moss, his American record boss, on Malibu Beach, and after half-hour could barely stay afloat in the perilous currents of the Pacific Ocean. He attempted to swim to land, but the sea was too strong. He realised he was going to drown and he called out to God. Miraculously the tide swiftly turned, a sudden wave lifted him and he swam easily back to shore.

His inner faith revealed itself further when his elder brother David gave him a copy og the Qur´an ....

Re: DO YOU STILL LIKE CAT STEVEN ?Quote

I don´t think we should be too quick to blame Cat´s "religion" for his lack of musical productivity later in his life. Almost all of the brilliant musicians in the late sixties and early seventies can´t produce diddly squat today. My personal theory is that the musical creativity and genius we saw in the late sixties and early seventies had more to do with some sort of pouring forth from the musical muses in the etheric realms than any special talents of those who were the "channelers" of that inspiration.

And no I can´t prove this but sometimes I wonder why Bob Dylan doesn´t write a good protest song for example. Why don´t Simon and Garfunkel get together and write songs BETTER than "Mrs Robinson", "America", "I Am A Rock", "The Sound Of Silence", "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "Cecilia", "The Boxer", "Homeward Bound"
etc. It is because the well has gone dry perhaps.

Sitting
by Cat Stevens

Oh I´m on my way, I know I am, somewhere not so far from here
All I know is all I feel right now, I feel the power growing in my hair

Sitting on my own not by myself, everybody´s here with me
I don´t need to touch your face to know, and I don´t need to use my eyes to see

I keep on wondering if I sleep too long, will I always wake up the same (or so)?
And keep on wondering if I sleep too long, will I even wake up again or something

Oh I´m on my way I know I am, but times there were when I thought not
Bleeding half my soul in bad company, I thank the moon I had the strength to stop

I´m not making love to anyone´s wishes, only for that light I see ´Cause when I´m dead and lowered low in my grave, that´s gonna
be the only thing that´s left of me

And if I make it to the waterside, will I even find me a boat (or so)?
And if I make it to the waterside, I´ll be sure to write you not or something

Oh I´m on my way, I know I am, somewhere not so far from here
All I know is all I feel right now, I feel the power growing in my hair

Oh life is like a maze of doors and they all open from the side you´re on
Just keep on pushing hard boy, try as you may
You´re going to wind up where you started from

You´re going to wind up where you started from

My favorite Cat Stevens

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
You´re only dancing on this earth for a short while
And though your dreams may toss and turn you now
They will vanish away like your daddy´s best jeans
Denim Blue fading up to the sky
And though you want them to last forever
You know they never will
You know they never will
And the patches make the goodbye harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
There´ll never be a better chance to change your mind
And if you want this world to see a better day
Will you carry the words of love with you
Will you ride the great white bird into heaven
And though you want to last forever
You know you never will
You know you never will
And the goodbye makes the journey harder still

Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
You´re only dancing on this earth for a short while
Oh very young
What will you leave us this time
