I do not use any of these "value" cards let alone swipe my ID. They can physically look at my ID but ill be damned if they are plugging it into a sin tax system. Speedway gas stations Krogers Giant Eagle Thortons convience stores Kohl's Just a few of the value card stores I can think of When checking out in said stores the cashier will ask if I have my value card?? no I dont have one well all you need to do is sign up to get one. I dont want one. Why not?? You get free stuff? Its no ones business what I buy, where I buy it and when I buy it. Awwww they dont use the stored, scanned barcoded and time stamped information that way.... ok then.... Im just paranoid...are you going to start ringing me up now? Number one this system tracks how you are spending money, and how much you are spending. Number Two- this rabbit hole of personal information could be used for any number of purposes. From legitamate bogo deals to selling names of customers who spend over X amount in thier store or ones that buy X product line. Direct marketing. To red flags for spending more money than your household earns. Maybe I am just paranoid. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1517703 United States 12/03/2011 01:15 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I recently discovered that certain stores are requiring you to swipe your drivers license/ID as a condition of sale when purchasing age restricted items such as beer/wine/cigarettes. Quoting: GanjaSnake 787778 They claim they are only verifying age, however swiping your ID grants them access to your personal information which gets saved to a database to be used for marketing purposes. We don't have to put up with this! If you come across this practice I urge you to walk out on the sale, there's plenty of other stores that don't steal your personal information. So far I know of Holiday gas stations as well as Target stores, if you know of any others please list them here so we can avoid doing business with them. If I can get this information out, perhaps enough people will follow suit and force them to stop this intrusive behavior. Yes my grocery store wants it, but no one gives it, so their manager has to run over and override it. Which is an option. I will never submit my dirvers license for it tells someone exactly what and when I buy booze! Not that I drink alot. Just my privacy. Then who knows the cops will then have your licence plate and pull you over more??? or what??? do not comply, ask for an override or just leave that purchase behind and go to a vendor who respects privacy!!!! You do not have to play new games!!! Make wise choices for when the majority comply, ... |

I don't even use a debit card anymore, after having my bank contact me about fraudulent charges on my account twice in the past 4yrs I realized that the people who swipe your card are not always legit. So now I am back to carrying cash and have found my spending habits have changed considerably. I know quite a bit about some of the available marketing tools, these days marketeers have the ability to sort people based on their online activity. For instance, MailChimp which is an email marketing tool rates your mailing list users by their 'social' activity and will link to their facebook, myspace, etc. accounts where you can sift through and create lists based on what you find. For instance if the person is into outdoorsy type stuff you drop them into a list so you can market in a more specific way. These chat bots you see if you've ever been on the other side of one you can watch the clients every move while they're on your website, and pounce once you think they are ready to buy. Spooky stuff, privacy is already gone. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 16824093 That's ridiculous clearly a psychopathic retard made that up, how the fuck do they know if they're under 40? Here it is if you look under 25 you will get asked for ID, but they don't freaking scan it and keep your personal information on file. |

The dates and times are put into a database and provided to authorities as well as used as a form to establish either above 21 or below 18. All common practice now, next possibly get your arm or hand scanned or possibly the eye. Looking like the minority report in days ahead. |

I asked the lady why she was doing it and she it had to do with age, but she was not really sure why they did it. This is not true if she can do the math and read the birth date on my drivers license then she would know and not swipe. I am 49 and she really does not need my DL anyway. |

I wish every one of you who felt that way would just stop buying your crap in my store. You want to buy beer, you don't want to show you have a valid drivers license, GREAT because I really don't want to sell beer. It should be sold in liquer and or beer and soda establishments. |
