.357 Glock 31 or .45 Colt 1911??? Im about to make a purchase on one of these and cant decide. Which would you guys buy and why??? Thanks!
 Quoting: Downtown

My daughter is a marine and she said hands down the 45 colt because it is a superior brand, fires smoothly, glocks are over rated. She said people who really know guns would get the colt. Also, it will hold it's resale value better. Get the colt. It will last much longer too she said.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1492982

She also said the colt never jams like a glock would. Her BF works in a gun shop and he said all the same things. They both say DEFINITELY THE COLT. Both of them were marines as I said too. They really know their guns.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1492982

Um.. in all the rounds I've put through my Glock and the thousands of rounds used, it's jammed on me only two times.

If you don't properly maintain ANY gun it's going to have a jamming issue. Don't clean your 1911... guess what, it's gonna jam.

If you can't find a good colt, find a Taurus. Taurus makes good, reliable guns, and they have a lifetime warranty. I have the PT-111 .40, nice firepower, not quite as much stopping power than a .45, but more than a 9MM.

My Marine daughter also said be sure to use the hollow point ammo because you don't want to fire cheap ammo through a really nice colt. She said you gotta use hollow point. She said you will get more bang for your buck.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1492982

a hollow point has nothing to do with the quality of the ammo.... a hollow point only defines the type of tip the bullet has. There's plenty of crappy ass hollow point rounds out there....

Re: YO GUN-TARDS!
I love the 1911 and you can't go wrong either with a 1911 or a glock. Stay with a military caliber though, like a 9mm or the 45. Obviously you simply have to go 45 if you have the slightest sense at all if you buy the 1911, though some Ya Hoo's have it in 9mm, which means they have to be preverts.

By the way, you do realize that just maybe your desires may be associated with this [link to www.pakalertpress.com]

Which may also explain a good of the apparent fear based legislation we have seen the other Ya-Hoo's in the "Other Washington" put in to law. Just saying...ya know?

Here is a list of 8 things to look for when trying to identify false flag psychological operations.
1. Staged events usually receive immediate national news coverage
2. There is a political agenda behind the coverage (gun control)
3. The incident inspires intense emotions (Dead kids)
4. Initial media reports conflict eyewitness accounts
5. No dead bodies are shown to the public
6. Celebrities are used to influence the public
7. Presence of mainstream media manipulation tactics
8. The Federal Government give attention to a local story

Question Everything.

Re: YO GUN-TARDS!
If you have a CCW already then get the Gen 3 G31 and don't look back. Get night sites with it. Nice mods available very reasonable and you can work on it yourself. Ammo advice. Practice - Georgia Arms Canned Heat 125gr loaded down to 1350FPS. $125/500 rd can. Defence/carry - Speer 125gr Gold Dot chrono's out of the G31 @ about 1475FPS. That's 520 Ft/Lbs of ME. Take a safety/ self defense firearms class and practice, practice, practice. Buy a quality holster made for the Glocks, not some cheap shit. Buy only factory Glock mags and don't screw them up with extensions etc. You can get conversions for Glocks to barrel it down for .40 and I think 9mm. But I bet after you shoot the 357SIG round, you won't be thinking you need them.

LOL! I have owned about 6 different Tauruses - revolvers and semi.

Of those, 4 had serious reliability issues out of the box. Some may be able to be repaired, some are just junk.

I'm not saying you can't get a good Taurus, but I sure as hell won't trust one of their guns until I shoot at least one whole box of ammo with zero failures.

I believe the 357 also works with 38 special so it will take two kinds of ammo as is out of the box. Good for when you have to scavenge for bullets after the end of the world.

A revolver also wont jam up when you're using crappy post apocalyptic reloads.

the man on the house drowns and asks god...why did i die? why didn't you help me?

god: i sent three to help you ...

so..wtshtf....and you are getting tortured or your wife is being raped...and you cry to god...why?

he just might answer...if you'd had a brain, you'd have bought a firearm to protect your family.

I've basically been around school kids all my life but I know some, rather well, who haven't. If I could only wish for one, I'd wish for a Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm. I'd carry that baby in a Milt Sparks Summer Special Holster, load the first five with 200 grain and the last five with 135 grain Doubletaps, but hey, that's just me.

Having said that... .357 Glock 31

Actually I was wrong. 1400 FPS is the Gold Dot # 54234 out of G31. It can be handloaded a little faster, but the 520FtLbs of ME is correct. The charts for 357 SIG you are looking at probably show velocity from a 4 inch barrel. G31 is 4.5 with polygonal bore so its a little faster.

If you have not fired a pistal much or at all you want a stupid proof gun. The Glock is stupid proof. That's why its a police issued sidearm.

The 1911 is a tricky gun to use due to its single action only mechanism. if you aren't cocked and locked at all times its no better than a brick.

For the average non-shooter, I would suggest the Ruger LCR. Light weight, accurate at short distances and portable. Affordable too. .38 Special is a common caliber and a solid man stopper.
