Atmospheric distortion will do that every time. I always tell people to go to a dark sky area and use a telescope for a real perspective, as the human eye will trick the brain when looking through the atmosphere.
Quoting: Redpaw360 I am VERY aware of that phenomena. Instead of trying to give OBVIOUS answers please just go view it for yourself. Take a look at Beetleguise (Orion's, eye or helm) Red Giant, look at the other stars. Now, look BACK at Sirius. What do you see?
