Sirius WATCH in the Eastern Sky. Any volunteers?
For the last 3 months I have been anxiously awaiting the rising of Sirius. While it has been rising for some time, to see it at a somewhat decent hour is somewhat recent. I live in the PNW and it has been overcast for months so my efforts to view Sirius has consistently met with frustration. However, tonight the sky is clear.

Sirius is the very bright star(brightest in our night sky) behind Orion's back leg. Right now it seems to be pulsating incredibly, throwing off bursts of red and blue and white. It is really awesome to behold. It reminds me of a member here from Australia who mentioned seeing a star acting strangely in September when Sirius would still be seen in the Southern Hemisphere before Sirius rose in the Northern Hemisphere on the Jewish New Year September 29, 2011.

I was hoping some others would have a look (a long look), and describe the behavior of Sirius from YOUR view point.

Find Orion's belt in the Eastern sky, then look behind his leg. Really watch how Sirius is behaving.

I believe Sirius may be a key to the puzzle.

Can anyone get video?

Atmospheric distortion will do that every time. I always tell people to go to a dark sky area and use a telescope for a real perspective, as the human eye will trick the brain when looking through the atmosphere.

I am VERY aware of that phenomena. Instead of trying to give OBVIOUS answers please just go view it for yourself. Take a look at Beetleguise (Orion's, eye or helm) Red Giant, look at the other stars. Now, look BACK at Sirius. What do you see?

Yes. Sirius will start to rise earlier and earlier until eventually it is up during the day again.

I would LOVE to get a 0 light video or images if you have the means.

This is 4 photographs of the object the Australian member I mentioned noticed in September.

The images were VERY far away when he posted them. I magnified all 4 substantially and added a bit of contrast.

Remember, this is the SAME object/star morphing in the sky while he took the images. I obviously can not say for sure that what he photographed was Sirius, but I have a hunch it might be.

And I knew you knew that because I know you or something? ?

You didn't state anywhere about how you are observing, eye?, scope?, digi- cam?.

I was just posting an answer trying to get a better clue as to HOW you are seeing this phenom?

The gf has a D50 or D somthing Nikon camera. Pretty good machine, I got a crappy sony video camera and I got a telescope but I think its missing pieces. There is no eye piece, just a metal tube that you look into, no stand either so I prop it against a fence. I will for sure take pics if I see anything worth taking. I mean 0 light too. I only have candles, nobody for miles around.

This distortion when things are near the horizon I get, but once its high in the sky and midnight kinda thing when its black dark... Where would the distortion come from? Ive only talked to a few people about the red/white/blue light flickering and one guy said he was blinder then a bat. Couldnt see any stars in 25 years he said, i pointed it out and he was shocked. That was ;ast winter, Probly Mid January Idguess

Sirius should be coming up soon on the East Coast. I would love to get some eyes on this if some of you are willing to commit some time to really observe what is going on with Sirius.

Sirius is the super bright star behind ORION. It will probably be very visible about an hour from now, or sooner if you are on the coast. Eastern sky. Follows Jupiter up.

No. Just that it might be a piece of the puzzle.

Many people in the Southern Hemisphere earlier this year, were mentioning a strange star. Now that Sirius is rising at a decent hour it will be visible in the Northern Hemisphere (Winter months) for us to get our chance to see it.

I was hoping to get people to look to ORION, then to find Sirius and observe her behavior.

Re: Sirius WATCH in the Eastern Sky. Any volunteers?
I noticed this very distinctly back in 1998ish or so. It was definitly Sirus. Sirus is one of the few stars to pulsale and twinkle in such a spectacular way. RED BLUE GREEN WHITE all sorts of colors. It is way beyond the normal atmospheric distortion.

I remember back in 1998 I wondered how i never noticed it before as I frequently liked to gaze up at the stars.

I know Sirus is part of a binary star system, is it possible the twinkling is from the wobble of the star?

I tooki like 100 pics of it, sent them to England, did research, there is a lot of online discussion about it. They even have a mil satellite that hangs in the area where we would look towards Sirius, no one I know has an expolanation of the outrageous colors except atmosphere!

Lol. I wrote this a few days ago. At the time it was evening on the West Coast. I should update the title.

I would just like to get more people to train their eyes on Sirius. Would you be willing to have a look? Eastern sky. Find ORION's Belt, follow it back to the the VERY bright star behind his leg. What do you see?

Honestly, I am just following a hunch.

Sirius is a Holy star for many ancient cultures including modern Israel who places their "New Year" on the first rising of Sirius in the Northern Hemisphere, September 28 of this year. As did Egypt.

1580 BCE:The Egyptians invented a new and better calendar. It is based on both the moon and a star. They observed the annual appearance of the brightest star in the sky, Sirius.

That coupled with it's removal from Googlesky, Sky-Map.org, and other programs, intrigues me.

Also, the mystery surrounding the Dogon and Siruis B.

I have only had a chance to see it once since September 28. Tonight, it is again completely overcast.

It is frustrating as it is overcast, well actually raining like crazy in the northeast. I have been waiting to see Sirius for weeks. I don't know why...just a feeling with no substance. Did you see the pics Astronut took from the GLP observatory of Sirius?

I had to stop to say they are chemtrailing right above Jupiter and across the moon ! Unbelievable!

Tuarus rising, will wait a few to see if Orion shows.

Keep in mind there a multiple planes working tonight up there.
