Argentina operates ‘blockade’ of Falklands by boarding Spanish fishing vessels operating with British licences
[link to www.dailymail.co.uk]

Argentinian patrol boats boarded Spanish vessels - holding British licences - in the waters off the Falkland Isles, and accused them of fishing 'illegally', it has emerged.

The Argentine ambassador has apparently admitted the move, claiming fishing vessels will be subjected to their patrols because the 'Falklands and adjoining maritime spaces are an integral part of the Argentine territory'.

Argentina has used similar tactics against fishing fleets from Asian and Pacific nations, UPI reported.
The move comes just days after it emerged Argentina has proposed sending its athletes to the London Olympics wearing provocative badges declaring the Falklands are Argentine.

Re: Argentina operates ‘blockade’ of Falklands by boarding Spanish fishing vessels operating with British licences
Meanwhile, it emerged today that Argentina has been quietly courting Iran - with exports to the country soaring more than 70 per cent last year to $1.5billion.

Argentina's ties with Iran had been virtually frozen since Argentine authorities secured Interpol arrest warrants for five Iranians and a Lebanese in 2007 in connection with a 1994 attack on a Buenos Aires Jewish center that killed 85 people.

But now Iran is the biggest buyer of Argentine corn, a key crop for the Latin American country as it strives to bolster its trade surplus.

Re: Argentina operates ‘blockade’ of Falklands by boarding Spanish fishing vessels operating with British licences
The seeds of the recent diplomatic row were planted in January last year when British oil rigs arrived off the Falklands.
President Kirchner threatened a blockade of ships and Brazil appeared to take sides by refusing to allow a Royal Navy ship to dock in Rio de Janeiro.

Relations cooled again in July after Argentine foreign minister Hector Timerman directed a volley of abuse at the UK. He accused David Cameron of acting like a 'bully-boy thug' over the islands.

My Bad, I just read the article from the Daily Mail which states that the Falkland Islands "were ceded to Britain in 1833".

According the the article I quoted, the islands were ceded to Britain in 1833....

The article goes on to say that

The Falklands government issues licences to vessels wanting to fish inside the 200-mile maritime zone around the islands.

Now, are you speaking on behalf of all Latinos when you say we the Latinos, or just yourself from your Favela?

Of course not Dear Boy, nowhere ahsll it lead, perhaps the U.K. Government is right when they say that Areginte is just saber rattling, after all, can they really afford an international incident?

If laws govern ownership, then either the U.K. will give it up, or defend her position.

It is a bit far away though across the Seas, can the U.K. rule the waves does it even have a MIGHTY naval force protectorate??

The Malvinas were STOLEN from Argentina in 1833, when Britain sent the frigate HMS Clio, and took over the islands.

Argentina NEVER gave the islands to Britain.

Will be over in a jiffy

Britain has around 1,200 service personnel on the islands, the Royal Navy has three warships in the area and four RAF Typhoon fighter-bombers have been deployed.

The Foreign Office said: ‘Although we are aware that Argentina has challenged vessels transiting between the Falklands and the port of Montevideo we are not aware of any vessel that has been fined or individual arrested. The UK has protested to Argentina.’

The UK no longer has sufficient military strength to enforce their claim on the Faulklands when Argentina again invades the islands. This is what happens when a country allows its military strength to erode and become weak.
