Re: Venus Blinking!
Wait.. so Astromut is trying to disprove the fact that stars and planets ever twinkle?

/facepalm
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3975742

I didn't say that. "Twinkling," for one thing, is completely different from "blinking." I don't know why people are calling it that. Check out a rapidly tumbling satellite sometime, then you'll see true "blinking." In this case, the scintillation's source is a chimney, but as I said before, even the atmosphere itself can produce extremely bad seeing.
 Quoting: Astromut

This is just semantics, you really are starting to sound shillish.
 Quoting: THE Anonymous Coward!

Words have meanings. I'm a shill for pointing out that twinkling is not the same thing as blinking?
Sorry, I see Venus "twinkling", I'm not even going to ask why, from you, seeing as you are going to be pompous about it.
 Quoting: TAC

Yeah, I saw it quite heavily distorted by bad seeing as well on Saturday night. Tonight it was pretty steady. That's the atmosphere for ya. This case, however, was clearly caused by the chimney. I could tell right away it was being impinged by some plume from something by the way it suddenly and dramatically changed from somewhat steady to completely disrupted. Sure enough, a chimney appears. Astromut right again!

Re: Venus Blinking!
OMG its due to atmospheric turbulance. Im an amateur astronomer and when you see stars or whatever blinking like crazy, it means the atmosphere is unstable.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1426914

well if that's the case its unstable at all times. And of course this instability also causes them to appear to move goodly distances in the sky too???? I watched Star Ship Sirius (with a witness who watch it too FROM another state), move at least half the distance to that smaller star below and right of it. and then move back up to where it belonged.

Start studying this and stop regurgitating what you read on your poorly written science books and on the net about it. Some of them will blink out too, like Star Ship Jupiter does sometimes to wake up you sleepy heads and ask you to actually THINK.

IF IT MOVES AROUND, TURNS THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF, AND FLASHES LIGHTS OF DIFFERENT COLORS IT IS NOT A STAR.

AND IF YOU PUT A TELESCOPE ON SIRIUS AND THE CAMERA WILL NOT FOCUS IT RIGHT, BECAUSE ITS A BIG PLASMA SHIP CLOSE TO EARTH, PERHAPS RECONSIDERATION IS NECESSARY. REAL STARS MANY LIGHT YEARS AWAY, SOMETIMES HUNDREDS WOULD NOT BEHAVE THIS WAY.

Now *that's* science, bitches.

Now I and a friend watched the LIGHT SHIP move about half the distance visually to that little star back in 2006. We were chatting on our cells, she lived in Arizona at the time, I live in Colorado. I contacted the commander of the ship and asked for a show for HER and it was granted. Now, a star will not move that distance over a period of maybe 5 minutes and then move back again.

So Astromut, read my post above about the MOVEMENT and perhaps readjust your thinking, for that did happen. And perhaps a new photography technique could be developed? You like these sort of challenges, have at it. :its all good:

damned

Excellent video!

I have to admit, it didn't look like it was blinking to me, it looked like the whole damn thing was on flames!!!

If somebody had posted that video but had not said it was Venus, I would definitely have said it was an asteroid - albeit a bloody large one!

How utterly peculiar though!!
 Quoting: Lotus Flower

Same here. I thought it was an asteroid as well when I first noticed it last week. It looked like it was on fire and I'm not the only one that noticed. I have pics but you can't tell anything about it. I'm getting a telescope now. Just trying to research and get a good one so I don't waste my money.

I see intermittent heavy scintillation, where's the "blinking?" Jupiter didn't do it because Jupiter was no doubt much higher in the sky than Venus. Other than the fact that Venus looks like it's setting in the plume of some power plant's smoke stack or a fire, I don't see "blinking."

Oh wait, 10:49, there's your culprit; a chimney. It was going in and out of the plume of some chimney, that's why the scintillation was only intermittently severe.

cools pics are not available, The real venus is in our orbit and thus stays on the other half always behind the sun, but I think Stereo a and b may have had peaks at it, which then get labeled "nibiru." A whole bunch of earth folks are shortly going to move to Venus in fact. That is why its been terraformed. there are already more than 200,000 earth folks there now. That is one reason for some missing folks.

Convincing, but it doesn't explain all of those who have posted here saying they've seen the same thing recently. Surely not all of them are looking through chimney smoke?
 Quoting: Wotansdottir

If you look at it low on the horizon then guess what? You're basically guaranteed to see a very turbulent Venus as well. The lower it gets, the more turbulent it will look. Just plain weather will impact the quality of the atmospheric seeing as well. What I saw here was clearly the impact of a plume from a heat source, sure enough, that's what it ended up being. Others may be seeing effects of different heat sources. Building roofs are one of the the most common sources.

God does it in real time, that doesn't need explanation as everything is made from God's thinking mind. A spaceship can create a hologram. it is hard to prove op was filming venus...
 Quoting: T.I.W.

True but I did see it with my own eyes. You can take my word for it or not. I didn't know what it was at first. I'm use to seeing Venus on the other side of the sun and not after it sets so I can't say how normal it is. I got out my GOSKYWATCH and it did identify it as Venus but it was very unusual looking. It looked as if it was on fire to me. I thought it was an asteroid or UFO until I did confirm where Venus was. I do believe that something ia going on with all of the planets. They are brighter than usual and the moon is completely unpredictable and out of whack. Something is going on and people can come on here and say that everything is normal but I'm telling you all, it's not. I just wish that they would acknowledge that something is not usual and tell us what instead of treating of like crazy people. I believe it has something to do with these planets that they are finding and I do believe that something else it out there and affecting the stars and planets. Just my two cents :) Have a nice night everyone.

Nice Post OP! 5 Stars, I'm glad somebody did a post on it. At least now I know I'm not completely insane :)
