Squeeze the stem, and see if it changes color, it's normally a indication that they are active, with native mushrooms in Oz anyway.

^^That is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Regional variants of many types of mushrooms can be benign in some places, while deadly poisonous in others. Mycology is a bitch to study man...

My location would be Ukiah California, so Northwest Pacific.
The cap length varies for 1 to 1 in half inches.
Characteristics: Veil absent, Stalk snaps white insides. Mushrooms where grouped three to two. Smells like almond.
Also was located next to a oak tree I believe.

agreed! Even with a couple identification books by David Arora the process of identification is difficult.

You need to give more information for a positive identification. What color were the spores, if any were visible? Can you take a spore print if you find more and post that? Also, cut or break one of the fruiting bodies and take a picture after a few minutes of exposure to the air.

Even with reading material, diagrams, etc. there is NO WAY to 100% identify them proper unless you have a professor of sorts, even then, did you read the story of Japanese visitors that came to Cali, picked some shroomies, used them in their dinner and a few of them even died? The variant they picked in Japan was safe, the EXACT SAME TYPE OF MUSHROOM in California was deadly poisonous!

No active mushrooms,
DO NOT EAT.

I don't care whether you believe me, you can search around for as long as it takes and find out the same answer or trust an anonymous poster.

Good luck kind friend.

In all seriousness, do not consume them. You need a micoscope and photos of spore prints to be able to identify them correctly/definitively.
