Oh cool - now I see it on the live feed as well. So neat. Not as bright as I expected but it's definitely there!
 Quoting: Wotansdottir

I don't see anything yet..I think it's being updated every 12 minutes or so? (maybe quicker)..I don't think they even know if it will work right

if it does it should be pretty cool

I think they just updated about a minute ago and and nothing yet as far as I can see

I have the smaller display on another tab and they are up to 75 images
 Quoting: RTS REDUX

Watch closely near the large prominence at the 9-10 o'clock position. You can see what looks like a puff of smoke shoot towards the sun and start to become disrupted as it approaches the sun.
 Quoting: Astromut

I see it and it's very faint surprisingly imo..

any idea which frame that was?

Communism or more accurately, socialism, is not a movement of the downtrodden masses, but of the economic elite."

No, sorry. I've been watching the feed but I'm really no expert on it. Astromut seems to be the go-to guy here with astronomy-related questions, maybe he knows?

Again, I really don't know. Earlier it was maybe 10-20 minutes but now it seems to be longer. It's my understanding that they're showing it in loops as the data is received from the satellite.

That is kind of weird. Why is it so bright and huge in those images and so extremely faint on the live feed? Could it be satellite position/location? Or are you referring to something else?

looks like doctored images to me but I've only followed a couple of these types of comets...

I'm no expert though so I couldn't say for sure..it's just a hunch

Actually, SOHO was launched in 1995 with 1995 digital camera technology. Do you remember how great your 1995 digital camera worked? SOHO was designed to last 2 years...that's 1997 BTW. It's still taking pictures 14 years after it was designed to be retired. The Stereos use 2006 digital camera technology, SDO uses 2010 technology.

Guess which one works best...

Re: Comet Lovejoy survives perihelion!
Soho is set up to pick up stars, comets, planets with a disc covering up the direct sun light.
The other one is set up for direct sun light to pick up the detail on the sun itself. A comet will not show up well on it.

I guess the thing I don't understand is why it would look SO different compared to previous Sungrazers/divers on LASCO C2?
