This lunar eclipse(Saturday morning) will include an 'impossible' sight
For most places in the United States and Canada, there will be a chance to observe an unusual effect, one that celestial geometry seems to dictate can't happen. The little-used name for this effect is a "selenelion" (or "selenehelion") and occurs when both the sun and the eclipsed moon can be seen at the same time...

bump bump bump 5 *'s and a "suggest pin". Thanks for this, will try to see it (if we're not all fogged in). Like the poster above, I'd like to hear Apollyon's comments on this, and if it has any particular significance or is just something really neat to see.

Apparently the writer considers his audience retards as he feels the need to point out the obvious by stating that you must make sure that both your east-SE & west-NW horizons are free of tall obstructions that may block your view. LOL, what a jerk.

Actually, if you consider the inability of most of the posters here on GLP to understand what's happening in the sky at any time, then detailed explanations are maybe a very good idea...

People keep saying things "aren't normal" but never manage to produce any evidence of it. Meanwhile people who do regularly observe and who understand the skies see nothing wrong or out of place.

And surely predicting exactly what's happening wouldn't be possible if things weren't as they should be? Not just this unusual effect, which will be interesting, but being able to predict eclipses hundreds of years ahead to within milliseconds, and lots of other astronomical occurrences with similar accuracy.

Sorry, I know you love your "doom from the skies" here on GLP, but nothing's going to happen, and maybe in ten or twenty years time you'll look back and realise you were just a bit too gullible...

Sounds like they are trying to cover up the fact that you will see the sun and the moon at the same time during the eclipse. What if its not the sun you are seeing but its really Planet X/Nibiru?

Re: This lunar eclipse(Saturday morning) will include an 'impossible' sight
ok so the earth will be passing between the moon and the sun, eclipsing the moon right?
So in order to see the sun whilst the moon is total eclipsed, wouldnt you have to be on a mountain that gives you 180 degree views? Even then you,d only see half of the sun and half of the totally eclipsed moon?
If the angle is any smaller than 180 degrees and the moon is totally eclipsed, it means something other than the earth is eclipsing it.

How is the moon going to be eclipsed? what cold possibly be inbetween the moon and the earth. Or is the moon passing infront of the Sun, which i've always thought was a Solar Eclipse.

Hello ! Yes, it will be a "selenelion" event or refraction phenomena.

Since this Lunar Eclipse emphasizes Mercury, ruler of Gemini, (Taurus in field position) we have the 180 degree opposition to the Sun which is in Sagitarrius, but in Ophichus (field position)

This is a pivotal Apex of old facing off the new. The earth gets to view the sun and moon and equals, we have balanced our needs and wants and acknowledge it, (opposition full moon is about needs and wants) Its a ascension or gateway of knowing thyself.

Should be record tides and extreme pressure on the continental plates.

Probably going to be a BIG EQ that day or a few days after especially right after the forces peak.

Re: This lunar eclipse(Saturday morning) will include an 'impossible' sight
A selenelion or selenehelion occurs when both the Sun and the eclipsed Moon can be observed at the same time. This can only happen just before sunset or just after sunrise, and both bodies will appear just above the horizon at nearly opposite points in the sky. This arrangement has led to the phenomenon being referred to as a horizontal eclipse. It happens during every lunar eclipse at all those places on the Earth where it is sunrise or sunset at the time. Indeed, the reddened light that reaches the Moon comes from all the simultaneous sunrises and sunsets on the Earth. Although the Moon is in the Earth’s geometrical shadow, the Sun and the eclipsed Moon can appear in the sky at the same time because the refraction of light through the Earth’s atmosphere causes objects near the horizon to appear higher in the sky than their true geometric position.

Yes, thank you for explaining something different than the current topic, which is that in order for the earth to cast a visible shadow on the moon, the sun must be out of the field of view, or not visible, as in a lunar eclipse in which you have just explained.
