First of all what is a curfew tag or band?

Second, how big of a knife do you need to cut off an ankle tag YET stab yourself in the chest?

It's like that thing Lindsay Lohan wears so she can stay home instead of in jail. Some sort of electronic gizmo that calls the cops if you don't stay where they say you have to stay.

I assume he would have to bend over somehow to reach his ankle, which might make his chest too close to the knife if he slips.

Sounds like the "home incarceration" bands we use here in the States. Only maybe this one has some sort of alarm which goes off if you're not in your home by a certain time?

It is a cover story, The real story is that he ended is life because he was tired of hearing all the bull shit

Why would it be a murder investigation, unless someone else stabbed him? That makes no sense. My heart goes out to his family, but that was very dumb of him.

I always woundered if a lead shield around the band would stop it from transmitting.

What a dumb society we live in in my opinion. Kids shouldn't be tagged. What a dumb world. Oh well, some stupid law enforcement officials are now murders because of some dumb idea some dumb person came up with. They will all stand before God, I am thankful.

Ted Nugent would proud of you. You're a lot dumber than the society that you are ranting about. Putting a tag on somebody so that he can sleep in his bed, instead of on a jail cell cot, is an act of mercy not murder.

Imagine sitting down cross legged, or at least the leg with the anklet pulled forward to get a good angle at the band.

Next, imagine the person is holding the knife, no matter the size, with both hands, blade pointed TOWARD himself. Attempting to go under the band, sharp edge pointing up, the blade slices through the band with great force, and inertia does the rest.

He probably was an idiot trying to cut TOWARD himself, instead of away. Remember how you're always taught to cut away from yourself?

Nonetheless, poor kid. He just wanted to party.

One year to the day of Nicks death and I have come across this.. First of all I could point out so many incorrect facts in this article. Second of all, I would like to take the opportunity to set all of you small minded people straight. It was never proven that Nick was trying to cut his tag off, the tag was still on his ankle in one piece when he was found this way, it was due to be taken off the following week, so knowing him, I highly doubt he was attempting to remove it. The paper needed a story and therefore printed the first thing they could. Horrible, malicious rumours that people with nothing better to do spread. He was a lovely, caring boy who was grieving for the loss of his mother when this tragic accident happened. Do me a favour, spare a thought for his family and friends who will never get a chance to know why or what happened that night. Think before you speak because I’m sure if you were in their position and came on here to read disgusting comments as per the above, you'd be horrified. Despite what you may think and say, a young boy was taken far too early and a lot of people are suffering because of it.

Just think, he had a whole life of crime ahead of him too...

A life of crime or not, who are you to judge his path, because he done wrong once it does not mean he did not deserve to live. He got in a bit of trouble, don't tell me you've never done wrong, he wasn't a bad kid. He done anything to help anyone. However, we will never know now what life held for Nick. Don't be so small minded.

He did wrong twice, at least.

The first time he got caught and they put that nifty little tag on him. The second time he tried to cut it off, which is illegal. Now he's dead.

There are consequences for everything. Had he done what he was supposed to do he'd still be alive. I'm not saying he deserved to die, I'm just saying stupidity often causes death.

In any case life held nothing for Nick. He's dead because that was his path. If he was meant to be here he would be here.

I'm not sure if you read the comment a few above but it was just an assumption that was made by the papers that he was trying to cut his tag off. Friends, family and his girlfriend who were all there that night have stated this was NOT the case. It was an alcohol fuelled, tragic freak accident, he fell onto the knife and the paramedics advised that the chances of him hitting the main artery that he did were 1 to a million. I know it was Nicks time to go, i'm a big believer in saying that everything happens for a reason, what I do not think is right is that people have come on here saying he deserved it, he was stupid etc etc, horrible, horrible people and when something tragic happens to them or their family, I hope they remember this.

I do not see how the assumption was made by the papers when they are quoting what the local councillor Carolyn Wilson said she had been told.

I do not think it is nice of these people to say he deserved it. They are free to say what they will. But, it was stupid nonetheless. Alcohol can make even the smartest person act stupidly and without common sense.
