Agreed, I live in a village which has amazing history, most people who live here know next to nothing about, (nor apparently do they care)

Some people i knew bought a farmhouse in Roughlee, near Barley. They knew nothing of the witch legends. After several weird happenings, culminating in the woman being locked in the dairy for several hours without apparent reason (no lock on the door)they found out that their house had belonged to Alice Nutter, one of the alledged 'witches'. They sold the house, moving out even before it sold. They said things had happened that they would never speak of to anyone.

They should have had a mosque built on it.

Not much call for mosques out here, or churches.

It used to be common for a cat to be part of a wall when homes used to be built. Spiritual protection beliefs.

They get found all over the UK.

Walling up a cat keeps bad spirits away.

It would be interesting to see what is around the foundation, crushed brick powder is said to keep the dead spirits from entering the circle.

Soot and Ash keeps malevolent spirits out of the circle (aka demons).

What few people understand is that most witches were good women, they plied the art in the form of healing and blessing. Most were midwives and nurses. They were to the time the only doctor in many days journey in most places.

They got a bad rap by the Church, then were persecuted and murdered.
