Yeah, that's weird. We've been seeing some strange numbers posted about the rate lately. Usually, it just looks like a typo, but this one is completely different. I've seen decimals in the wrong place, but I haven't seen anything like your number, which would indicate a rate of roughly a dime, which would make Adam Montana downright prophetic. I'm still leaning typo, since your number has 1189 in it, which is a number that's been mentioned lately, but we'll see.

As far as the deletion of zeros mentioned above, it really depends on what your definition of "deletion of zeros" is. It means several things, including the dreaded l-word, but it has also been used to reference removing the old 3 zero notes from circulation, deletion of zeros from the exchange rate, and just the redenomination that comes after the RV.

They've been closed for about a week. This usually happens when they take some time off. Just catching up, but that's definitely a big auction.

A little correction from earlier. I said "typo," but I really meant "translation issue." We had some articles last week that mentioned 118.9 dinars per dollar and one that mentioned 1189 dollars per dinar. Nothing has changed yet, though, so I think it's just the translation software.

Re: Iraq an economic Study
I think there is a problem in translation. if you inverse the rate of 1168 to dollar you get something in the neighborhood of .00009 which is a bit above what the bank now pays of .00089 I believe. .00089 is the value of the Iraqi dinar in relation to a dollar .00089 x 1168=1.03 usd.

You got it right about deleting the zeros, it is Iraqi speak for removing the large notes, those having 3 zeros, from circulation. I believe we will not see .10 conversion rates, but anything over .30 would work for a short time for Iraq, best I can figure. But I really think we will see a number of about .89 or .90. sk

I agree, sk. $0.86-$1.18 staging rate is what I've been hearing all year. Several articles mentioned that the new 200 dinar note would be worth $180, or right at your $0.90 rate.

PS .89 would be another way of removing 3 zeros ie .00089 becomes .89 which would translate 1,000,000 would be equal to 890,000 usd, I think I could live with that. lol sk

That's the beauty of "delete three zeros." By meaning three things simultaneously, it gives them plausible deniability, when they RV, to say, "We were telling you, all along, that we were going to revalue. You just took it as we were saying we were going to delete the zeros from the face value, i.e. l-word."

Very interesting piece that kinda came out of nowhere today. We've now sent a delegation of Sens. John McCain and Joe Lieberman, and former Sen. Phil Gramm, who most recently served as VP for UBS's investment division. I've been reading, recently, the US is over there now to get the Strategic Framework implemented. As major foreign policy players, these guys would probably have been instrumental in its creation.

Alsumaria News / Baghdad

A high-level delegation arrived from the U.S. Congress to the capital, Baghdad, on Tuesday, to visit unannounced.

The reporter said "Alsumaria News", a high-level delegation comprising members of the U.S. Congress, Phil Gramm and John McCain and Joseph Lieberman arrived at noon today, to Baghdad on an unannounced visit.

The correspondent added that the delegation met upon arrival in the capital Baghdad, Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari at the ministry center of the capital.

The media quoted an adviser to Prime Minister Ali al-Moussawi end of last August as saying that a U.S. delegation will visit Baghdad in the next two days.

Help arrived and Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Elizabeth Jones to Baghdad, the first Sunday (2 September 2012),

Where he discussed with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari ways to stop the bloodshed in Syria and the situation of Syrian refugees and the provisions of Chapter VII.

It is expected to continue relationship with Iraq and the United States during the next stage within what is known as a strategic framework which provides for the exchange and partnership between the two countries in the economic, diplomatic, cultural and security.

The recent months have seen attempts by the Iraqi government to act as a regional power in a number of regional and international issues as Iraq hosted the Arab summit in Baghdad in the twenty-ninth of last March, also saw the Iraqi capital Baghdad in May last meeting of the Group of five plus one special nuclear issue Iran, Iraq submitted at the end of last August the Syrian initiative to resolve the crisis include ending the violence in the country and the formation of a transitional government.

Looks like Maliki actually met with our Senate delegation, and it seems like we had a bad translation this morning. It was actually Lindesy Graham, not Phil Gramm, who is there with Lieberman and McCain.

We have a new statement from Talibani, too, and Barham Salah says T's finished with his rehab, and when he returns, all the parties are ready for the National Conference.

Just stupid money tricks, but if that's the game, I'll play it.

I kind of look at this whole thing as a business proposition. We spent craploads of money in that place, not to mention lives, and an investor doesn't do that without expecting a return on investment. I don't know about y'all, but it seems to me like we (U.S.) ain't seen a dime of it yet.

Re: Iraq an economic Study
In the old thread, there were quotes from Bush in regards he investment in Iraq, our should I say war. He basically said that there would be a good return on the investment and it would end up not costing the US, in fact a profit was in the making. So based on that I would say its all about the money and the US is not about to let them off the hook. sk

I wish somebody could find those quotes. I've looked and can't seem to find any of them. Washed down the memory hole, I guess.

I seem to remember, from about 8 or 9 years ago, Bush encouraging folks to "Buy a little dinar." Maybe I'm dreaming, but when I first got into this, I saw a website called buyalittledinar.com and those words stuck in my head.

Yeah, the site is dead. I checked it a few days ago. Wonder where Zen has gone. That'd be great if you could get a copy. Would be a great read the next time I've got 3 or 4 weeks to spare.

While I'm here, here's an update on Talibani from my boy, 8Ball. Looks like the big man is doing just fine...
