They still were kicking a lot of ass for the years after Burton's death... (arguably less from the Black album - S&M, depending on how you view the music.) Metallica's ultimate death came when Jason Newstead left... Burton was fantastic... Jason was an awesome replacement.... and this new dude, while a good bassist, just doesn't seem to fit... and the music since this new guy joined has been garbage. |

Trujillo is not 'tallica stuff imo. (I changed the video in my post too, to the real song). I just could never get into 'much' after justice.. it seemed to go downhill, fast. Sad really, I grew up on old metallica. and I was one of the people who raged loudly on usenet at the time lol I met Jason in melbourne in 1986, (or 88 - god either way long ago) he was actually the only one who stopped to talk to me, Lars just joked I was wet (from the water being spreayed on us) and James shook my hand and meandered on. Kirk signed my jacket, but didn't say much... Jason was the only only one to seem genuinely happy so meet a fan. So I give him credit for being a top bloke, and trying... but I think after Cliff died, they all lost their direction. He was the maniac. The hippy pot smoking bass player with a flair for hair. ;) Last Edited by bloodcircle on 12/09/2011 01:21 AM |

Touring in Sweden, the Metallica bus hit a patch of ice and ended up on its side on the road. James, Kirk, and Lars got out unscathed but Cliff was crushed under the bus. |

How'd he die? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6465869 Sadly, the bus the band were touring on, had an accident and toppled over, crushing him... for his worth, he deserved a true death, but was killed by a slack driver.. :/ Died in a bus accident. "Death During the European leg of the Damage Inc. tour in support of Master of Puppets, the band complained that the sleeping cubicles on their tour bus were unsatisfactory and uncomfortable. To decide who received pick of the bunks, Kirk Hammett and Burton drew cards.[13] On the evening of September 26, 1986, Burton won the game with an Ace of Spades, thereby getting the first choice of bunk and pointed at Hammett and exclaimed "I want your bunk!" Hammett replied "Fine, take my bunk, I'll sleep up front, it's probably better up there anyway". Burton was sleeping shortly before 7 am on September 27 when, according to the driver, the bus skidded off the road (the E4, 2 miles north of Ljungby),[14] and flipped onto the grass in Ljungby Municipality, near Dörarp in rural southern Sweden.[15] Burton was thrown through the window of the bus, which fell on top of him. They tried to save him and managed to lift the bus up a little, but before they could retrieve him, the weight of the bus became too much and the bus slipped off the crane and landed on the ground again." |

You know... someone no one has mentioned here but who I "LOVE" and consider to be a HUGE influence to rock music is Buddy Holly. Man.. I wonder where his career would have gone had he not been lost in that plane crash... |
