Cover-up of Tower Error Suspected in Nov. 23 Phx Plane Crash Caught by GLP Member's WebCam
I cannot post a link to this as there is none, so I am posting the bulletin in full that I received in my e-mail. I am assuming this is not copyrighted material. Here is the link from the original story posted here on November 23rd by a GLP member who caught the crash on webcam, which was picked up by the MSM...

Situation Update No. 1

Event: Vehicle Accident
Location: USA State of Nevada River Mountains surrounding Lake Mead

Situation

After reviewing the NTSB's preliminary report from the deadly plane crash in Arizona's Superstition Mountains the night before Thanksgiving, a seasoned pilot has lots of questions. The co-pilot, Shawn Perry of Safford, was on the plane with his three children identified as 9-year-old Morgan Perry, 8-year-old Logan Perry, and 6-year-old Luke Perry of Gold Canyon. They were on their way to celebrate Thanksgiving in Safford. Shawn Perry's co-pilot and partial owner of the plane was identified as Russell Hardy, 31, from Thatcher. The sixth victim on the plane was identified as Joseph Hardwick, 22, of Safford, a pilot mechanic. Seasoned pilot Stan Craig said the pieces just don't add up. "It's really a mystery to me why he would level off at 45-hundred. I just don't understand that. Why did he stop at 45 hundred feet and why didn't somebody say something to him?" Craig said. According to the report the plane was on a level flight when it slammed into the mountainside about five minutes after takeoff. The report indicates there was nothing obviously wrong with the plane. It appears both engines were working. It shows the tower was in communication with the pilot before take off and 90 seconds into the flight, but the report does not list a detailed pilot-to tower communication log. "The tower communications I think would be better than that. It's like that whole section is missing. I would like to see who was talking to him, you know. What was going on?" Craig said. He feels the pilot would have known to fly at a much greater altitude, and wonders if he was under an order to fly low. "Why didn't somebody tell them they are too low? Why wasn't someone talking to them if they had them on radar?" He suspects the crash could stem from a lapse in the tower. "It could be", he said "Very, very easily. I am not saying it is, but it very well could be. They could have been busy at that time, and lost track of the flight." They are questions that could take months or even years to answer, as NTSB investigators piece together tragic events before issuing a final report. Funeral services for crash victims will be held in Gold Canyon Friday.

If this is true, I hope whoever is responsible gets found-out, because "errors" like this just cannot be "overlooked"!

VERY TRUE. But remember we are human, and even in the highest positions of a "job" we still DO make mistakes at times.

Yes, I am not saying that isn't so, but the "humans" that make errors like that are probably working too many hours or are burned out on their job and need to be checked out and possibly sent to do another line of work. AND, there have been incidences of them doing things OTHER than their jobs in those towers, being intoxicated, being asleep, etc. Considering the plane was only 5 minutes from the airport, and was leveled out at an altitude lower than the mountains it was trying to pass, and there is data that seems to be missing, I think someone needs to explain that. Surely the tower personnel are very familiar with the flight hazards in the surrounding area. Hopefully whatever caused this will be brought to attention so it does not happen again, that's really the point, after all.

Yes it is. You can also get live nexrad doppler weather feeds and wind speed and direction at different altitudes and traffic information service. Would have saved those poor kids' lives.

Stan Craig is obviously an idiot. They leveled off because they were too lazy or unable to negotiate a Class B clearance with Phoenix ATC. That airspace lies at 5000 feet and continues eastward until fewer than 3 miles from the peak that they struck.

Had they leveled off at 4900 they would have cleared it, had they been a mile north or south they would have missed it. And they had less than a minute once they were actually clear of the airspace to climb above the peak, which was certainly doable, but they probably wanted to be "sure" they were clear to the east.

No excuse for an airplane like that with the kind of experience combined in the cockpit and cabin of the plane to have allowed this accident to happen.

Contributing to this is the airspace redesign which was hotly contested at the time. As a former airline pilot, I would be pissed if they dropped us down that low that far from the airport, it's just a waste of fuel (and time.)

Not to cast aspersions, but this accident is very similar to the accident years ago out of Brown field in San Diego, where a jet crashed in similar circumstances, although they had leveled to avoid clouds while they picked up their IFR (instrument clearance.)

I'm sorry, but this is 100% pilot error with the CRAPPY airspace redesign as a contributing factor.

The real shitty thing is the pilot/owner of the airplane and company was reported to be in the rear of the aircraft with his children while one (or two) of his less experienced employees killed them all.
