TY, it's SO EASY and SO GOOD people would be a fool not to try it! That bread was only hmm, 2-3? hour rise, if I remember right. Usually I do not do a long rise anymore, I'm too impatient, lol. BUT, I have let it gone for 24+ hours and it becomes similar to a sourdough. |

Quoting: Bungalow Bill You still have to buy all the ingredients, put it together, wait on it for 24 hours, run the oven for an hour, etc. Not cheaper and very much less convenient. Depends on how much cheaper you can make it...if you buy in bulk you can make it very cheap and YOU control what goes into it. People anymore are into convience...if you plan ahead it is convenient and very yummy! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 580163 United States 04/24/2012 10:07 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | BEST-BREAD-RECIPE-EVER (takes less than 1 hour 40 minutes): Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1431775 3 1/2 cups BREAD flour 1 tbs yeast 1 tbs sugar 1 1/2 cups water 1 tsp salt Put the yeast and sugar in the water. Water should be about room temperature. Let sit for only 10 minutes. After ten minutes, add the flour one cup at a time. After the first cup, stir in the salt. You DON'T HAVE TO KNEAD THIS BREAD, just make sure the flour in mixed in. I do it with a fork. Let sit on counter, covered, for ONLY ONE HOUR. I would kill myself if it took 24 hours to make bread. After the hour has elasped, form loaves, let them proof(rise) for an additional 10 minutes. Bake in a preheated oven at 425 for 15-18 minutes. Voila...bread in less than ONE HOUR AND 40 MINUTES. This makes great breadsticks, artisan loaves, or even pizza dough. Substitute 1 1/2 cups of flour with wheat flour for some grainy good bread. The original recipe came from here: [link to www.ourbestbites.com] I just tweaked it a little. I made you're bread today, it was delicious! Second loaf I've ever made (first was a kneeded recipe, wasn't so good) I tweaked it a little because the packet of yeast was only 2 1/4 tsp, so I used 3 cups flour, 2 1/4 tsp sugar, 1 1/4 cup water, and little less than a tsp of salt. I put it in the sunny window to rise because the house was a little cold and left it for an hour and a half (It was fun to see how much it kept rising) After forming it I let it proof sitting on the preheating oven for 15 minutes. I baked it for about 22 minutes at 425º It was awesome! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 668442 United States 05/05/2012 10:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is just pure laziness. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6881056 If you want nice chewy bread, then the kneading is an ESSENTIAL part of the process. 1/4 tsp. of yeast is going to taste pretty much like a cracker. Oh yeah. That struck me weird-only 1/4 tsp but its thelong rise time that makes it possible. I make bread every weekend. I use minimum 3 tsp yeast. I knead the dough ~it's not hard takes only 8 minutes or so. It would be interesting to try this though. Thanks! |

I would think it would taste better with whole wheat flour and a little bit of honey in it. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 14459915 I find all whole wheat to be a bit rough, but a 3:1 white / wheat mix is good Yeah, I tried it with whole wheat bread and it didn't turn out very well. I didn't wait for 24 hours for it to rise. I only waited 3-4 hours. Maybe next time I'll wait the entire 24 hours. |

ARrrrrrrrg Here are things that will make bread fail: - Old yeast that is dead before you start - Yeast that has been left in a too warm storage place and is dead - Water too warm, it killed the yeast - Place where it was put to rise was too cold, but this is not likely, as some old recipes for rolls left the dough to rise overnight in the refrigerator, it just rises slowly *********** WaterLily *********** " Do I dare Disturb the universe?" -- T. If you eat wheat bread you're going to make yourself lose money/nutrients/health. Wheat contains gluten, gluten impairs the body's ability to absorb nutrients. Try using Quinoa, Almond, Amaranth, or Rice Flour, anything NON-GMO, and wheat free. "what would you do if you, knew all the things we knew.
