They did have access to fruits and natural plants/crops tho.

Who exactly did not eat meat in the last 2000 years?

They use butter and dairy. Their rice and vegetables are filled with small insects etc to provide additional nutrition. Check it out, it's a fact. And of course humans can SURVIVE with almost any nutrition, we are a stubborn species and make do with what we got. Nothing to do with being healthy or eating naturally though.

Just so you guys know, as long as you are alive and kicking, you are harming animals.

You build a house, you contribute to the death of some animals. 2 millions acres of land is lost each year in the US due to urbanization.

You drive a car, you contribute to the death of some animals (roads, pollution etc).

You eat salads (no meats), you contribute to the death of some animals (perhaps even more so than if you ate meat).

You wear cotton, you contribute to the death of a shit load of animals. The cattle that live next to a cotton farm are usually too infected with pesticide to be sold for human consumption. Cotton fields are deserts.

You cannot escape it. All we can do is learn to live with animals and respect them for what they are.

So please do not go mouthing off because you think you are high and mighty, because you are not.

LOL

Yes we are that on that kill.
Biggest bullshit i ever heard of a vegetarian.
It is the system that kills not humans not the pollution if you have a stable system then you can have stable live support.

I think more that you are a NEW AGE AGENDA moffo and you give a fuck about the animals.

If you are not. Then please get your mindpattern right and stop fooling people around.

Re: For the vegetarians/vegans/animal lovers etc.
OP, I have struggled with this topic for years. I am an animal lover and hate to see them suffer, but I do not do physically well when I eat a vegetarian diet. I was a vegetarian for a while, and it just did not work for me. This article I read, The Naive Vegetarian, did a lot to get me thinking logically about the debate instead of only using my emotions.

[link to www.second-opinions.co.uk]

The Weston A. Price Foundation also has loads of information on why vegetarianism is not what it's cracked up to be.

[link to www.westonaprice.org]

And don't get me started on PETA and other "animal rights" organizations and the pure evil that they practice. It's an abomination.

I think that many vegetarians are brainwashed, and I know because I was one. Their hearts are in the right place, but they are not using their minds. These animal rights groups play on people's emotions, but keep much of the truth hidden. Something must die in order for you to live. That is the law of this planet. And if you are a vegetarian who eats dairy, then you are certainly contributing to the deaths and suffering of dairy cows and their calves. What people should do is concentrate on making the lives of food animals better by not buying factory meat or dairy products and maybe eating LESS meat. When you buy for convenience and price, that contributes to the torture and horror of the mainstream meat industry. Support your local, humane farmers.

Great post!! That's where I am at. I first started by boycotting commercialized meat. When I eat at a restaurant, I will try not to get any meat at all. But everybody makes good points, that as long as we are on this earth, we are contributing to the mistreatment of domesticated animals.

If you really care about your body and health, look up on the primal diet and it's benefits.

Re: For the vegetarians/vegans/animal lovers etc.
I haven't read the whole thread, just skimmed it. Did want to say something about PETA and a few other things though. It was mentioned why people join groups like PETA. People join PETA because the group pulls on the heartstrings of people, as many love animals and care for their well being. People don't realize that many involved in PETA are radical nutcases. The people who are the body of the group that is, not the people who get duped into donating and what not. My husband and I use to donate, until we found out what a sham it is. This group euthanizes more animals than they save. They want all domestic animals freed. These animals were created by man, they haven't a clue how to survive. Most would die. Those who didn't die, like dogs, may have pups that would be dangerous, as they would adopt some of their parents lack of fear of humans and if they are hungry enough, may just take to seeing humans as a food source. Even if that didn't happen, these animals would certainly destroy wildlife. Look at how quickly cats reproduce and the damage outdoor cats have caused to wild bird populations. Setting domesticated animals free, like PETA wants to do, would be a very bad idea and it's obvious that they haven't thought this idea through well. There's a humane way of housing animals and an inhumane way. Most pets that are housed properly are happy and would rather stay in a domesticated environment than be freed. They might enjoy the romp, but sooner or later they would be back looking for the comforts of home.

Now, as far as eating meat. Humans having been eating meat for a very long time. Meat eaters are not going to stop eating meat, that's all there is to it. That said, I'm a meat eater, but I do have a major issue with the way animals that are to be used for meat are treated. Look at commercial chicken farms for instance. Some farms have it to where these poor animals live small cages, stacked on top of each other, one chicken eliminating it's waste on top of another. That is beyond cruel. There are farmers out there who house their animals properly, feed them properly, care for them properly and dispatch of the animals quickly and humanely. This is the way it should be IMHO.

A lot of emphasis is being put on what we do that harms animals, but it seems to me that gov'ts are in part to blame too. Gov'ts don't seem to want to do what it takes. They say they do, but they mainly just talk. There is no need to test on many animals. I'm not talking about testing to cure diseases, I'm talking about doing things like spraying hairspray into rabbit's eyes to measure the amount of irritation. Things like that are not needed, as we have labs to test these irritants; testing on animals like this is not necessary. Does the gov't do anything to stop it though? No. We could use wood from bamboo, rather than from trees, but the price of bamboo is up there. Why when bamboo grows at such a rapid rate? Green products, that will help the environment, are many times more expensive than regular products. How do they expect people to get on board when they're making green products more expensive and it's so hard for many just to get by these days? The gov't could cut the costs of these products to where more people could afford to buy them, but they don't. Ya know, just like healthy food is more expensive than junk food, but yet they bitch about the obesity epidemic in this country. It seems they know there's a problem, but don't want to do anything that will really make a difference. Then lets take the example of nuclear energy. Yeah, it's effective, but look at what happens when things go bad...like Fukushima for instance. There has to be a better way, but it seems that there is not enough being put into a better way, ya know what I mean?

I don't think we can do anything to stop the encroachment of man on animal's habitats, as I don't know of anyone that is going to accept a rule of how many children they have and that, IMO, would interfere with people's rights, but we can each do our little part in helping. Bird houses, feeders, baths, bat houses, butterfly houses, if you have the area, set aside a patch where animals can live. Be conscious of your actions, what you put into the environment, etc... Donating to causes that make sense can also help. I adopted a wolf for a yr. and the donation went toward helping the Sawtooth pack. His name was Matomo. It was really cool and fun to do. I got an info. pack on him and the rest of the pack, a poster, etc... Just be sure to check out whoever you donate to and make sure they're on the up and up. I guess that's all we can do...our little bit. If everyone did though, I think it would do a lot of good. :)

It just came to me one day that I shouldn't eat meat anymore.
I don't know why, but I stopped.

I could always take it or leave it and some of it I just didn't like anyway so it was easy. I've also known most of my life that I don't digest meat well and I lost 10 pounds almost immediately when I stopped.

I'm not a fanatic about it. I eat eggs and dairy and I'll pick pepperoni off a pizza and eat the pizza.
None of that "oh it's inedible because meat touched it" stuff.
I also ate turkey on Thanksgiving and I'm sure I will on Christmas. So far, those are the only exceptions.

I don't like what I've seen of slaughter house conditions and I hate to see animals abused, but it had nothing to do with why I stopped eating meat.

It has been my experience that Peta is wrong in their assumption that all animals want to be free.

I have read too many stories of them destroying animals just so they won't spend time as pets, there methods and ideology disgust me, and I am an animal lover.

I have taken in ferals over the years. They choose to become domesticated. They are not held captive and are given the choice of in or out. They pick in, usually right before the winter sets in.

My dog didn't leave the yard very often, he knew what his territory was and had to hang around to protect it and his buddies, the kids.

Sometimes I think the animals have us wrapped around their little paws, not the other way around.
