TOKYO — Molten nuclear fuel may have bored into the floor of at least one of the reactors at the stricken Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, the complex’s operator said Wednesday, citing a new simulation of the accident that crippled the plant in March.
The simulation suggested that the meltdown may have been more severe than had previously been thought.
Soon after an earthquake and a tsunami on March 11 knocked out cooling systems at the power plant, nuclear fuel rods in three of its six reactors overheated and slumped, the operator, the Tokyo Electric Power Company, has said.
In the No. 1 reactor, the overheated fuel may have eroded the primary containment vessel’s thick concrete floor, and it may have gotten almost within a foot of a crucial steel barrier, the utility said the new simulation suggested. Beneath that steel layer is a concrete basement, which is the last barrier before the fuel would have begun to penetrate the earth.

You all know that if they have to evacuate because of #4 they will have to abandoned the other reactors. All reactors would then probably go into meltdown.

There was a Doomsday scenario I pitched about the glob of Mox burning slowly through the containment vessel floor until it hits water/mud and then "blast-vents" (or effuses) up and outwards in a decades long spew of rads killing us all. Well, it hasn't happened yet - most annoying!

So - why?: I suggest TEPCO, faced with inevitable mass irradiation/ extermination of East Japan if (and when) the core exuded the water table, did the next-least, lethal thing and blasted a short tunnel through the nearest wall of the underground complex to the ocean (only 30+ meters away) flooding the complex and the core under 5m of sea. (the u/ground complex goes down a dozen meters I think).

That might explain a brief period when they had a few small explosion-like events a coupla months ago captured on the web cam. So that means they've got a pipeline of radiation blasting straight out at Flipper, but it's penned somewhat by the concrete pier. Anyway, say goodbye to all of the Pacific Ocean that Japan can claim territorially... But saved Tokyo.. and about 1/3 of Japan too.

Proof? You ask? (the nerve!) I went to Cryptome (excellent site) to look if there was any photo evidence for my rumination and lo! I think there was. (The photos were taken "illicitly" by a guy with an RC plane and a camera!!) See the ease for a tunnel path? And then think: what is the alternative? I don't see any mass pumping otherwise. What else is keeping the tons and tons of fuel cool?

Naturally, they still carry on with spraying some asinine garden hose over the top as a fig leaf to cover up suspicion of what they've done... and they'll reveal the truth in dribs and drabs. This also explains why Seattle/CA are getting such high radiation in their rain/fish.. more than us. Not from air dissemination.. but from evaporation and currents! The Divine Wind saves Japan from the barbarian again!

Hey OP - you're quoting Gunderson from JUNE and dressing it up like it is current stuff. If you actually followed Gunderson, you'd know he isn't talking about this as some imminent issue.

I'm thinking this was planned demolition. The cuts are to clean for it to have just fallen off. It makes more sense that they are getting ready for the structural panels like they did on #1 and #2. They published a plan for covering the spent fuel pools, back in September, to get ready for demo on the parts that were unstable.
