The United States dropped nukes for a reason. Whether it was just or unjust, that was in the hands of the idiots that felt it honorable to massacre Pearl Harbor.
By providing an immediate response, one with that much potency you can deter just about anything.
Iran and other small uncivilized areas do not need to acquire that kind of power in a time of uncertain stability.
