our ancient ancestors experienced occasions when their gods (saturn,venus and mars) punished them by killing most of the population via physical destruction on a massive scale

this prompted the certainty that no matter what the original cause was, humanity was guilty of something thus punished

hence the combination of attitude to women and cultural guilt was born

self sacrifice to prevent sacrifice imposed by the gods, our physical expression of having understood the message of the original imposed from above sacrifices expressed by our own destruction of part of ourselves (population) thus expressing wisdom (lesson learned) was seen to work because huge cultural destructive events from above ceased

over time self sacrifice not only was our representation of wisdom to keep our gods peaceful it also became our expression of strength as in:
ability to inflict self sacrifice without detriment to our ability to function (war)

these invisible cultural archetypes are the motive for many expressions of mass human emotion hence the changing of the environment within which these archetypes function was vital
