There were said to be 3 Fates. That refers to:the Charites, known in Greek mythology as The Three Graces, goddesses of such things as charm, beauty, and creativity. Which harkens to, there originally being 3 Muses before the leap to Nine. They were Melete, Mneme, and Aoide.

Boeotia was one of the earliest inhabited regions in prehistoric Greece.[citation needed] Many Greek ancient legends, including a number related to the aboriginal population, originate in this region. The Muses of Mount Helicon, the myths of Oedipus and the sphinx, of Dionysos and Semele, of Amphion and Antiope, the myth of King Kadmus as bringer of the alphabet, the mythic king Ogyges related to the first mentioned great deluge, and many other legends became part of the Greek culture.

The three original, Boeotian muses were Mneme (the muse of memory), Melete (the muse of meditation) and Aoede (the muse of song).
