Sometimes a Christmas tree is just a Christmas tree and has no deep symbolic meaning. Just like the Christian cross. For the non believer it is just a cross made of intersecting lines. For the believer it is the connection (thousands of years of history, religious beliefs, individual beliefs) that give it power.

I'm afraid anything that distracts us from Jesus is an idol. (Christ + Mass, a funeral = Death).

Whenever I see a wreath affixed to someone's door, I ask, who died? Where else would one find a wreath?

Rev 12:9 tells us that Satan has already deceived the world.
Matthew 15 tells us that Jesus warned of puting traditions before his father's commandments, and that people would worship his name in vain regarding such traditions (it almost seems that he was speaking specifically of Christmas).
Moreover, if we are to celebrate Jesus' birthday, the exact date would've been stated in scripture, don't you think?

I have a rule, if the world is doing it, then Jesus probably doesn't desire it for us...

After all, this day represents selfishness, drunkenness, debauchery, indebtedness, idolatry, gluttony, jealousy, the cares of this world, the love of this world, etc. (need I say more?)

Those children's toys are nothing more than a distraction. When one takes their gift from under that tree, they must kneel down (that's worship). Don't celebrate as the heathen does...even atheist celebrate Christmas.

I refuse to participate in any of this insult to Christ, as I celebrate him and what he did for me everyday...

2. we put presents in stockings cos saint nicholas used to put money in orphans socks (also two poor girls who were going to be sold off as brides has money put in their socks so they could stay and take care of their mother)
3. saint nicholas used to wear green and white robes - this was changed to red and white by .... COCA COLA. pfff
4. reindeer are in the story as during the winter season a special mushroom grows in greenland - you hallucinate and see flying animals.

Dad loved his aluminum Christmas tree, circa 1963. I bought this because it brings back great memories of days gone by. It's not illuminati, it's just a bunch of retro fun in my house.

While I will always love and put up my aluminum Christmas tree every year (because nostalgic baby boomers do that sort of thing for the feel good 'kitsch' effect), I viewed something on Christmas day that made me think of this thread and reminded myself to come back and share because it was SO freakin' odd!

Ok, so I'm 57, and Mr. Wonderful is 61. Aging hippies, if you will. We go all nostalgic this Christmas and he hauls out a butt load of old black and while VHS "Christmas Specials" from early TV days for us to watch while making dinner and opening gifts.

One is from a series called 'Crossroads'. Which intro touts 'true life stories from clergymen....'[all over the world]. M'kay. So we pop this one in called "Our First Christmas Tree", circa 1956.

The intro to the episode credits the Board of Advisers:

1. Captain Maurice Witherspoon; VP of the Military Chaplin Association.

2. Father Ford; VP of the Church Peace Union, Carnegie Foundation.

3. Dr. William Rosenblum; Rabbi of Temple Israel, NY, and former President of the Synagogue Council of America.

Set in 1851, the story is about a Reverend Henry Schwan who arrives from Europe to take up the ministry in the Zion Church, in Cleveland, Ohio.
