Or, a handy suggestion I've read--you could screw a freezer basket over the old meter, with a notice saying not to replace the meter. There are better written ready-to-print legal notices available on the web, I'll bet.

They can't remove the meter cover/freezer basket because it is attached to your house, and to remove it would be vandalism. I don't understand the legal issues about what they say in the customer agreement about their right to access their equipment, though.

I saw a cover at someones house, attended by two legal notices. One at the front door, and one at the old meter. The old meter had a wooden cover over it, exposing the dials to read usage. It looked a bit like a little birdhouse with a round hole in the front for the glass bowl to stick out. It was simply screwed in with an angle bracket, easily accessible, not cleverly hidden or anything.

The leagle notice covered wireless emf affecting certain people who are sensitive, the surveillance issue, and was well written in legal terms, so look one up. THe guy in the video says to contact the elec co first.

I think you have to be informed before you tr this.

My fight against the 'smart meter'
(You don't want one of those dangerous things on your house)

by Devvy Kidd

On April 18, 2011, I received a letter from Reliant Energy there was a repeat problem with the meter reader having access to my property. I have locks on both gates because I have dogs. Last year, some punk opened one of the gates during the night and my beloved Mr. Willy got out; the locks went on the same day. I was unaware the meter reader was having trouble since my husband is always home due to his serious health problems. If he has to go to the doctor, I'm here. What also waved a red flag was Reliant's letter which stated I am required to have one of their new 'smart meters' installed.

So, I call Reliant and they referred me to a company called ONCOR, a TDSP (Transmission and Distribution Service Provider). Dialing away, I call ONCOR's customer service rep and explain the situation. I also told the lady there is someone at this house every day; either John or myself. All their meter reader has to do is knock on the door and he can read the meter. I thought that was the end of the matter until one day a nice young man showed up at the door to let me know he was going to install a 'smart meter'. I politely said, no you aren't; he left.

By that time I had done some research that was beyond alarming. In early July, while I was gone running errands, another ONCOR fellow showed up at the door to install a 'smart meter'. My husband said, no we will not have one of those dangerous things attached to our house. The ONCOR installer informed John that if we didn't agree to have it installed, ONCOR would shut off our power with no notice. On July 12, 2011, I sent both Reliant and ONCOR a certified letter in which I explained my husband has serious medical problems and depends on oxygen during the day and a machine at night to keep his heart from stopping. If they shut off the power, it could have dire consequences. He is also a cancer survivor, all the more reason not to have one of those dangerous meters on our house.

Devvy - 'Smart' Meter That Does NOT Save Energy
By Devvy
9-23-11

[link to www.rense.com]

"Patrick Wood, co-founder of The August Institute and editor/publisher of The August Forecast and Review, may have discovered the answer; and he presented his findings this June at the California Eagle Forum in Sacramento. It was the group's Tenth Annual State Conference, and the organizers chose for a theme: "Agenda 21 and Its Many Tentacles" of which Smart Grid can certainly be regarded as one.

"As described by Wikipedia: "Agenda 21 is the action plan of the United Nations related to sustainable development, and was an outcome of the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 1992. It is a comprehensive blueprint of action to be taken globally, nationally and locally by organizations of the UN, governments, and major groups in every area in which humans directly affect the environment."

"Wood titled his talk: How Agenda 21 Seeks to Implement Big Brother's Technocracy Controls through Smart Meters, Smart Grids, and Smart Growth which pretty well sums up his conclusions.

"Smart Grid enables control over energy (water and natural gas, too!), distribution and consumption, on a local, national and global basis," Wood states on his web page.

"With its ability to continuously monitor electrical usage and control electrical devices in people's homes, "Smart Grid is not just a new system for delivering electricity more efficiently; it's the enablement of Technocracy," he told his audience; and later: "It's a subset of Technocracy."

The best method to make sure they DONT replace your old meter, is to build a wooden box around the old meter, and then cut a circular hole in the plywood cover that the meter's glass dome will poke through. Then the meter is physically built into the house, and they would have to damage your property to remove it, but you're not interfering with your legal obligation to allow meter readings.

Good point. It's about the health risk and personal privacy(not to mention the fact that most people's bills go up with the digital meters.) This is an issue which conservatives and liberals should be able to agree upon.

I install gas and electric meters including smart meters in the UK.

The energy giants can already track how much energy you use through your meter readings.

smart meters in the UK allow the consumer to view their usage in pounds and pence and in kilowatt hours.

The system is based on bluetooth and the information collected is sent back via a sim card.

Im not sure about other countries, but in the UK tampering with your metering equipment is an illegal offence and you could either..

End up in prison.

Or end up dead, or killing the family in an adjacent house.

Gas is not a god given right, Neither is electricity.

In the first 40 seconds of the first video he says the energy companies can shut off your appliances to balance out the grid.

When the electricity meter is conected only to the main switch in your fuse box, and your appliances run on different rings and different fuses within the fuse box, How is this possible?

Seriously, tell me.

Why dont you do some research into the fact that people who live near overhead cables are more likely to get cancers and tumors. Nothing smart about them, but the energy companies have known this for years, Have a little read on Tesla.

Actually, when the topic is about smart meters and the reason for removing them because of 'dangerous radio waves' look at the magnetic interference caused by you're monitor and you're television. They all give off the same energy just in less dosages.

Lets look at why that is, well here in the UK. At the point of entry into a property there is 230v and around 350 amps, this is lowered after the main fuse. Yet when this energy is used by an appliance, the appliance doesnt use all of that voltage or ampage. An appliance may run off 230v but the ampage is whittled down to a mere 13amps at most.

To answer your original question with a little more brute, You dont look like an electrian, but you look like everything you strive not to be, Someone who follows.

Topic still

I had my electricity turned off once... I was poor.

Well I was pissed I didn't know it was getting shut off or I would have borrowed the money ... but they came at 5am and me and my kids woke up to a cold house.

Anyways long story short... first I checked the breakers...

I looked around at my neighbors and saw I was the only one out...

Then I went to look at the meter... it was sideways. So I didn't know wtf was up, they left no notice or anything... I took the little plastic lock off to see if the box would open but I didn't want to fuck with it so I put it back on.

Well later that day I got the money together, and after all the reconnect fees etc my bill was about 3 times what I owed.

And they waited 4 days before coming to turn the power back on.

Next thing I know I get a letter in the mail saying I tampered with the meter and they charged me another $100 "fine".

Just a warning to you folks if you think you can just replace your own meter... You're probably digging your own grave.

As i said in my previous posts as an AC. There is no human right to running water, gas and electricity. If you want it, you gotta pay for it.

Imagine the power supply route:

Meter -> Breaker (fuse) box -> Wires -> Appliance

Normally, if you want to isolate one appliance, you can go and flip the breaker to turn that specific item off.

What you're asking, is how can they specifically target the appliance, without physically flipping the breaker (in essence, turn off one thing while not other things).

The key is in the appliance itself, today appliances are becoming "smart" appliances, and they can be shut off with a signal, just as I can turn off my television with the remote control, even without touching the breaker (Fuse). It's the same principal, they can transfer data over power lines, so a data signal is sent to the meter, it heads to appliance and gives the shut off order. It turns off, and then waits for another command.

That's ridiculous.

If we lived in a normal world, you could BUY land (not rent it from the government -- property taxes) ... drill a deep well, and get unlimited war. Then put up a solar array and now you've got running water, and all the electricity you need.

We live in a world of intentional artificial scarcity used as a method of control. This planet has abundant energy, so much we cannot use a fraction, but we're restricted to using fossil fuels because that's a profitable commodity that is easily controlled by a few.

Do you realize that during the partial audit, it was confirmed that the FED gave away 16 trillion in secret bailouts? Did you know TARP makes up only 2% of the total bailouts? Did you know, even last year, MSNBC was reporting that the total bailout packages exceeded 20 trillion?

There's 125 million homes in the nation, you could spend $20,000 on each and every home putting up an elaborate solar array (and I don't even think solar is the best option, but for example), for $2.5 trillion.

Depending on which source you want to believe, that's roughly 10-15% of the bailouts that we KNOW of.

With that minimal investment (in the grand scheme) every single house in America would be self-sufficient in power, and would never have to pay an electric bill again. Coal plants could be shut down all across the country, and the pollution that goes with them (for you envirotards).

But why wouldn't they do that? Oh yah, they profit from fossil fuels, and they control you through your lack of self-responsibility and helplessness.
