If you suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, i'd like to know what medication(s) work best for you.

"The very word "secrecy" is repugnant in a free and open society; and we are as a people inherently and historically opposed to secret societies, to secret oaths and secret proceedings. We decided long ago that the dangers of excessive and unwarranted concealment of pertinent facts far outweighed the dangers which are cited to justify it. Even today, there is little value in opposing the threat of a closed society by imitating its arbitrary restrictions. Even today, there is little value in insuring the survival of our nation if our traditions do not survive with it. And there is very grave danger that an announced need for increased security will be seized upon those anxious to expand its meaning to the very limits of official censorship and concealment. That I do not intend to permit to the extent that it is in my control. And no official of my Administration, whether his rank is high or low, civilian or military, should interpret my words here tonight as an excuse to censor the news, to stifle dissent, to cover up our mistakes or to withhold from the press and the public the facts they deserve to know."

Meds sometimes make anxiety worse - weird I know. I can mentally control the anxiety attack now, just think of something else or count down from 1000 until it passes. I've cut back on the anti-depressants and the anxiety attacks are less frequent.

Yeah I have heard that too! I tried stopping meds all together but it wasn't pleasant. My mind never stops worrying.

Re: I have SEVERE anxiety and my new meds aren't working. What meds do you take?
The best idea is no meds for panic or anxiety, mostly because it's a trial and error thing. You'd have to go through a long list of different meds to find one that does work for you, in particular, because everyone's biochemistry is different.

The other reason is that if SHTF, there's a chance you could be dependent on a med and then have to go off it abruptly, which is a distinct no-no...withdrawal is brutal, from what I've read and heard.

What works for me is keeping busy, being creative (making stuff to sell or give as gifts), keeping a journal, making a website, anything that challenges your abilities.
Just my two cents.

OP, whatever you do..don't take clonopin..it makes you get more intense ones as they up your dose. Not only that fact but if you go off of clonopin you are in for one extremely hellish experience.

Follow the 10 commandments. Its what cured mine.
How is Satan going to deceive scrupulous Bible savvy Christians who are watchful and weary of any moves towards a one world government? These Christians know that the Bible warns about a Satanic End Times kingdom and they would cause an uproar at the formation of such. Satan therefore must disarm these Christians. He must create a puppet Illuminati organization which presides over the creation of this supposed New World Order, he will create a counterfeit of all the major prophecies in Revelation, a counterfeit regathering of Israel, a mark of the beast, New World Order, Mystery Babylon the Great etc.

Low testosterone caused me to have panic attacks. I had a panic attack that lasted 3 days.

Once I started hormone replacement, the panic attacks stopped. I hate benzos. Ultram can help some people with anxiety.. it helped me when I was having panic attacks.

the solution is not medicines, it's learning to breathe when stressed and no drugs will relieve your life problems for you.

Wow, I've never heard that. I can't imagine a 3 day panic attack. 2 hours is bad enough. Thanks for the info!

i suffered for over 15 yrs with chronic anxiety and depression. Nothing ever worked. It was cause heart palpitations and make me feel like a zombie.
Tried mushrooms on a whim and 1/8th cured in 5 hours what prescription pills couldn't in 15 years. have only done them twice since then(4-5 years ago) and my anxiety and depression is entirely gone = )

Klonopin <--- 6mg a day

Just told my doc that I quit seeing my psyc and that was what I was prescribed, and I needed a refill.

Which is exactly what happened...

If you asked for it I imagine you would get .5mg twice daily though. Haha good luck with that.

Re: I have SEVERE anxiety and my new meds aren't working. What meds do you take?
OP..i empathize with you..ive had anxiety my whole life..

Tests done show a lack of serotonin in the brain..its actually a disease..

The only thing that has worked for me is xanax, which btw..I only take once or twice a year, if needed. Xanax is highly addictive and I dont recommend unless you're really in a bad way.
I am on cymbalta, which has pretty much eradicated the anxiety, but I really wish I could be off meds altogether. All the anti anxiety meds have side effects..but you have to weigh it, is it worth the side effects to be anxiety-free?

I tried going off the cymbalta a year ago, with horrible results..its sad that I, and others, have to be on these meds, but it seems the only thing to regulate the chemicals in the brain.

You probably have severe nutritional deficiencies. I would change your diet to raw foods and take high quality vitamins, minerals, and omega oils.

My problem with meds is that they COVER UP the problem and AVOID the problem instead of curing or solving it...

The key here is to get to the bottom of WHY you have 'anxiety and panic attacks', what physical (or spiritual) reason there may be for it, etc.

You should look into alternative medicine, Google is your friend... do some holistic, even metaphysical searching, perhaps try witchcraft if you haven't already.

Are you having any fatigue? Have you been taking any certain medication for extended lengths of time? Some medications will decrease Gonadotropin Secreting Hormone from the hypothalamus and will result in low testosterone.

Have you tried chamomile or valerian... or beer?

Sometimes rest and time are the best treatments. Benzos are a temporary fix and should not be used for more than 3 weeks straight

Re: I have SEVERE anxiety and my new meds aren't working. What meds do you take?
BTW, dont listen to people telling you not to be on meds..Ive gone my whole life living with anxiety..trying this, and that..Ive tried everything under the sun. Including therapy, breathing techniques..self hypnosis, hypnosis, regressive therapy, you name it..Ive done it..

It is an actual disease..a lack of chemical in the brain that fires the neurons..its like running a car engine with only a drop of gasoline..the firing mechanics arent working properly.

No one can understand this, unless they have this disease..so dont listen to those asshats telling you to NOT take meds..

Do the research yourself..

Cymbalta is the only drug that helps with the firing of the neurons..Ive tried many medications and its the only one that actually does the trick. Of course..as I said, there are side effects..I just wish that there was a natural way to remedy this.

SHR, a lot of what you said is true and it really is a quandry because I am reluctant to take meds myself but, for some people, there really is an imbalance in a particular chemical in the brain that nothing but some kind of medication will help. A lot of people have that particular imbalance these days too so I'm really wondering if there's something in the air or water or environment that is causing more and more people to have this imbalance. Someone should look into that.

I do agree, though, try herbal stuff first...better than side effects, withdrawal, availability if it all hits the fan, etc,...

None, I just get my self a glass of water and try and calm myself down. My doc did prescribe some half-beta when I went through a really bad stage but I never took them, because of a phobia I have about taking any meds. Just holding the box in my hand made me worse.

I agree. I have tried a lot of the same. Meds are the only thing that improve the anxiety. I have been on Effexor xr which was good but expensive. Now I'm on Celexa 40Mg a day. I wish I stayed on Effexor.

Thats exactly what Im saying. Ive had the brain tests and it shows a lack of serotonin..literally less than half of what "normal" people have.

This is a "disease"..its not something that you can control. Just like diabetes..would you tell someone who is diabetic that they shouldnt take their insulin??

Also,OP..it takes a few weeks for most of the serotonin meds to start working..dont expect results in just a day or so..hang in there..I know its a tough road, but you can get through it!

In the meantime..there are alot of good ideas from others..a good diet indeed helps!

If you MUST take a med, though, one over the counter med actually does calm you down. Robaxicet is a muscle relaxant with some acetaminophen and besides helping with muscle pain, it actually does calm ya down somewhat and you don't need a prescription for it. Just a thought...might work.

Yeah, I know...some of the imbalance can be hormonal as another guy said (I believe). I had terrible anxiety problems til I hit change of life, then it just disappeared and hasn't come back...so, obviously, it was some sort of undiagnosed hormonal imbalance....so you do make a valid point.
