Tell them fuck off and move out.

You said it yourself you feel shit taking it so explain to them you don't need it and that all drugs aren't "good for you."

Move out.

I wouldn't let anyone force me to take anything i didn't want to.

Re: I need ways to trick MY parents into thinking I swallowed a pill!
Ok, so here's my opinion.
You are born again, right? If so, why are you attempting to deceive your parents? Lying and not honoring your parents is breaking two commandments at once.

You could tell your father, "I know you are tying to do what's best for me, and I appreciate that. However, I feel this medication is causing more harm than good, and I respectfully ask that you don't force me to take it." present him wih any information that pertains to your concerns.

You mentioned your parents are psychologists, right? This means they are probably crazier than your average bear, and there may be no reasoning with them. If you aren't willing to take the meds, and the other alternative is to get kicked out of your house, then you need to decide.
You're 16 yrs old. You're old enough to join the Job Corps. They'll give you room and board, and education. I would advise against moving in with your boyfriend, especially of you're trying to follow the path of Christ.

Good luck. hf
 Quoting: Oubliette

Yes, going against my parents is against the law of God. I'm aware, just desperate.
I am going to try reasoning first most definitely! I am taking them for now, but once I get a respectable amount of research done what they do with that determines the next step.

Also for the living with the boyfriend, it wouldn't be like shacking up. Hell no!!! He is agreed on the celibate thing, infact I would probably sleep in the guest room cattycorner to the parents room and they hear everything.
But its a last resort type of thing.
 Quoting: OneEyedWoman

I hope you can communicate respectfully wih your parents. The key is, if you want them to take you seriously, you have to be cool, calm, and collected. However, of they are psychologists, this may be very difficult to do, as they know how to press people's buttons to get a desired reaction.
Your 'mental illness' may just be a result of being in an unstable environment.
At your age, you need a structured environment. Living with your boyfriend in his parents house may be more than you are emotionally ready for, just because of your age. Even if you are trying to be celibate, there will be a great temptation. Not only that, but you will be living with someone that you have a romantic, emotional relationship with. That will simply be very complicated.

I wish you the best, and I hope you find your way. Please look in to Job Corps. It may be exactly what you need. You can get away from a potentially emotionally abusive situation, and maintain a structure way of life. You also get free education. This is something very valuable if you can get it.
 Quoting: Oubliette

That is most likely what it is.

I know, there will be temptation and its already hard enough being in a relationship, not ready to take it to the next level quite yet!

I will look into Job Corps, sounds intresting, although I'm not too big on education! hf
Thank you hf

if this is a capsule filled with powder, pull capsule apart, empty it, put back together, swallow.... (if they watch the whole time, just empty one before hand and swap it when they give you new one

if not

as you put it up to your mouth hold with middle finger and thumb, flick it with your middle finger to the left (or right depending on which hand) of your mouth and behind you quickly as it seems to enter your mouth and swallow, master this technique.

or

put under tongue and keep there, swallow. if they check under tongue, move with tongue above tongue as they check under tongue, then back down below as they check below. you can master this just takes practice.

Holy shit I totally get what you are saying!

For instance this is an example I get sometimes

Layer 1: I love my boyfriend, just thinking back on our memories something reminded me of a time we had together.
Layer 2: A what if comes into play, as normal girls would get. takes it to a whole knew level of what if, complicating every possible way something wrong with me and him could go wrong, singling out my faults and making up a new "dream" girl who is better. If it gets deep enough I start believing it will happen and it throws me into a spiraling depression, or shell as you put.
Layer3: Just pure inside Panic.

Its not just boyfriend, its ANYTHING. I overthink and analyze everything.
Interesting to know that someone else has this problem.
How do you cope with it?
 Quoting: OneEyedWoman

You will find this odd.
This is how I see it:

For one.. I don't hate it, though I might exclaim those exact words at times I actually find it to be beautiful in a raging passion kind of way, after all we are emotionally driven beings.
But then again this is not that strange, seeing as how I can't help but to live life with a foot in the grave, or rather- I only feel alive when I'm standing at the edge of it all. Perhaps I resort to depression, because I can count on it's reliability.
Much like how we humans feel empathy for those sad "michel gondry-esque" moments and stories in real life and in movies, I see it as something poetic.
Take suicide for instance, an ugly beautiful thing, the tears, the raw emotion, the will power to carry through, and lack-there-of for not carrying on, fucking beautiful.

This is two ways in how I cope, generally it's one or the other method for an extended duration.

1. Passively:

I bury it inside myself; the panic, the anxiety, the fears, the regret-
I bury it inside, start to actually relish the feeling of desparation. During this time my emotional shields/walls are up, I recede into my shell, a dismal dark pit of "lonely". I hibernate for days, weeks, months on end until
I am faced with a ultimatum self derived or otherwise. After the ultimatum passes I either progress or regress even further.

“In this dark world where he now dwelt, ugly things and surprising things and once in a long while a tiny wondrous thing spilled out at him constantly; he could count on nothing.”
― Philip K. Dick

2. Actively:
I consciously seek catharsis, I look for meaning in the most little thing. Not that finding beauty in the mundane is something that is rare for me, in fact it's a way of life, but when I actively try to progress I find meaning in everything.. All things become sigils, signs, and omens.
I look for epiphanies and revelations, things that inspire me. I get that feeling of elation, which detaches me from my "problems" and I rise above the depression in which I feel so comfortable in.

Note: that a lot of my problems with depression stem from feeling alone, feeling misunderstood, feeling like wasted potential, and for the most part, I am pretty certain, a muse is all I need to reroute the energies flowing through me.

Also Note: I take illict drugs, not so much anymore, I am 25 but started drugs at an early age of 13 (mushrooms and weed) but between now and then I've consumed a metric fuckton of other substances, in fact the list of drugs I haven't taken is probably shorter than the list of drugs I have taken, and by a large margin at that.

But the thing is, I've never really self medicated with the drugs, they've mostly been for entertainment, soul/mind expansion, relaxation, or creativity. Now-a-days I smoke weed and ciggies, hardly drink, and for the most part stay away from hard drugs and RX. I don't suggest you self medicate.

Latest revelation:
Psychoactives were my muse at one point.. why aren't they now? (GOD DAMNIT! I need one! :P)

Hmmm, I use to do the same thing. Do your parents put you down a lot? My mother did with me, which caused me to have a lot of insecurities. That caused me to over analyze stuff and imagine things were going to go bad, which would bum me out really bad. It also caused me to inadvertently ruin one of my relationships. Letting what my mother said go in one ear and out the other, and realizing that I wasn't like she had made me out to be, helped a lot.

I looked up brain zaps. I get those alot when I'm on the medication. I thought I had a tumor, those things scare the hell out of me!!!

I also get this, aderline rush when I'm on it. Like I'll be laying down and it will start to feel like I'm moving foward 200 mph, my heart beats fast, my blood flows fast. Its freaky.

I'll tell!
And man My friend took effexor, she said it was horrible!!!
I think the doc almost put me on that but my mom said "no put her on prozac."

Are you off it now?~?~
hf
 Quoting: OneEyedWoman

I had slight brain zaps while I was on the Effexor when I first started taking it, but they eventually stopped. It wasn't until I accidentally missed a dose that I felt what the brain zaps were like full strength. It happens every time I try to taper off of it. Telling your parents about the brain zaps would be good idea too (that and the suicidal thoughts). Slight brain zaps are really disconcerting. Getting them a lot would drive me batty and that can't be good for your mental or emotional health. If the medication is causing your heart to beat fast, that can't be good either. From what you've said, the side effects you're having are enough for any caring parent to want you off of it.

Unfortunately I'm still on the Effexor. My doc. has tried tapering me off and onto another medication, but nothing has worked, as the withdrawal is too much for me to handle. It pisses me off because I wasn't suffering from depression, I just had anxiety due to my annoying family and so I'm stuck on this crap until something else can be figured out.

Dangerous subject. I should probably refrain from getting involved but I do want to add one thing.

As appose to trying to convince your parents you're taking Prozac, I would strongly advice on trying to convince your parents you have resolved your issues, doing good, and back on track again. In the end, that is what they are looking for, behavior changes.

Talk to them, ask them what their expectations are, what they are trying to accomplish. Open up to them. Prescribing Prozac is a desperate move of a desperate parent.

No you misunderstood me I'm not talking about them being divorce. But you as a minor can divorce/separate from your parents in court.

Seriously?!?!?!

Do you really think just because they are making me take a pill I would qualify?
I don't think I would really, considering my background!
 Quoting: OneEyedWoman

To me forcing you to take prozac is abuse. Were not talking about a physical ailment like a heart condition. We are talking about a subjective situation. You should talk to your parents about why the prozac makes you feel like shit and is counter productive. Be descriptive on how it affects you instead of helping you. You sound a like a mature smart girl and they should take your opinion of it seriously. Not force you to feel like a Prozac Zombie
 Quoting: Ready2bugout

I'll try talking to them again.
Hopefully they will listen, my mom is the one who most likely too.
I'll start with her first.
 Quoting: OneEyedWoman

Hello,

maybe a compromise, let them know you are going to start a new diet and exercise regimen, JUST TO SEE how it affects you.

I was prescribed Prozac twice, once when I was 15 and again when I was 19, despite telling the doctor how terrible it made me feel. Both times I took the medication for maybe 3 weeks and then tapered myself off. My mother never gave me a problem but of course she isn't a doctor.

They cannot legally force you to take the medication or get any medical treatment. They would need to take YOU to court and explain to the judge why you are unfit to make your own medical decisions.

I don't really understand, if you are not having over-the-top, abnormal depression symptoms why would you NEED this medication?

If anxiety is an issue, I suggest vitamin b complexes and possibly some synthesized or extracted tryptophan.

When I was your age I was attending free yoga and meditation classes at the local Buddhist temple, I was reading new age crap about chakras and energy healing. I was doing ANYTHING I could to avoid pharmaceuticals, and it worked for me.

Prozac is a poison IMO and unnecessary for most. Tell them it's your body, it's your spirit/soul and you don't want it permanently damaged when you KNOW in your heart there is another way to deal with your symptoms besides throwing pills at it.

After all...most modern psychiatry doesn't actually treat the underlying issues that are causing the symptoms, it only works to treat/mask/remove those symptoms, not the true problem.

Tell them the best therapy you can get right now is in spiritual form, not pill form. And ask them to respect you as an individual and your choices. Hope this helps.

Depression OP?

Why are you depressed at 16 years old?

I am not trying to be mean but what real stuff are you dealing with at 16?

You should thin about donating some of your time to those who are paralyzed from the neck down and will be this way for life...or cancer patients

or the real hard core homeless...

Write up a list of what you have to be grateful for in your life....

I need one! :P)

Funny how you see it. Interesting at the least.
Your pretty optimistic about your problems, thats good.

I hate it, I wish it would go away, its like I've installed a record in my head and it just keeps running and running and running. The only way to shut it up is a bullet through the brain

BUT
that was before, its better now that I'm born again, but it can still cause issues because I let myself go back into it. Its like an addiction I have to fight.
I get what you say by it being beautiful, it is amazing that some people can trail into such deep thought, and it can be fun exploring through the cavities of your inner intuition, but it always ends up in negative feelings. Maybe because we are negative people on the inside, striving to be positive? Or maybe because we are harassed by spiritual being? Either way it fucking sucks.

I used to do passively, because I didn't know what was happening, I didn't know that I went way to deep into my thoughts and that I started to feel all those feelings I stashed away and all my secret fears and worries were being played like a never ending movie in my mind. So I accepted it and like you said relished in it. Became that, I was a turtle forever hidden in its shell, but I got dragged out and pushed into the self medicating stage.

I do the second thing too, I take it as a sign, or a vision but that only freaks me out more, considering most of the deep thought is bad.

Just ignoring is what has benefited me, but I'm not a person to ignore something obviously, since I have a overthinking problem!

We are never wasted potential, here how I figured that out

but i like my technique better, do it without hesitation as if you enjoy it and have changed your mind and eventually they will stop trying to notice at all

lmao I"m broke, I'll try your technique.
 Quoting: OneEyedWoman

one other very important technique,

make sure pill is completely dry (rub top roof of your mouth to dry as much as possible also, get it very dry up there), put it in your mouth and press hard against top of your mouth, it will stick to roof of your mouth, swallow while trying not to touch pill at all with any moisture in your mouth (with your tongue), let them look under tongue and on top of tongue, keep angle right so they dont see roof of your mouth. (if u cant get it to stick, use peanut butter....)

this is a much easier technique if u can pull it off

Re: I need ways to trick MY parents into thinking I swallowed a pill!
[link to www.jobcorps.gov]

Here's the info for Job Corps. There are three Job Corps centers in your state. Also, the education they provide is either helping you finish high school, or get a GED, and solid technical training. You could train to become a pharmacy tech or a medical assistant, or anything that they offer, FOR FREE. Then, you will not have to be dependent on your parents, or on any man (besides Jesus), until you are ready to get married.

Because you are young, living with a boyfriend is just a bad idea. What if (and not to scare you), the relationship doesn't work out? Then who will you need to depend on? This could lead to a cycle of moving in with man after man, just to keep a roof over your head. Getting some type of trade skills will help you take care of yourself. You won't ever have to be tempted to do immoral things for a place to stay, or for money. That type of lifestyle will only lead you back to drugs, and you know that.

I'm only giving you some 'motherly' advice. I'm a mom of two, but I was also a teen in a very similar position to yours not that long ago (okay, 15 years ago, but still).
