Why do "hunters" shoot animals like elephants and lions?

Pobably because they can't hit the broad side of a barn and need a huge slow moving target......

There was a time when an elephant could have been considered a big-game animal. No longer. Most are shot by poachers for the ivory tusks. That is why trading in ivory has become so restrictive.

It might interest you to know that human overpopulation has pushed the elephant and other large game into refuges, and reserves that are severely overpopulated. Elephant are very destructive to their environment. Cropping is essential for their well being as well as raising the necessary money through licenses to purchase additional land.

I have nothing against hunting for need, as in eat and use what you kill...but hunting for sport alone...I think its poor stewardship over all that God gave us!

and yes, the WWF has preserved elephants so well, that they now have to cull them! and 'people' like prince phillip among others, have the 'pleasure' of killing them . . . .i would say ego and bloodlust . . .

No. Hunters hunt. If you have the money, and there's a surplus, maintain the population. Hunters are some of the best resource managers. All part of being close to nature.

Sometimes they will kill the locals in a village or the lions will turn into man eaters at which point,you should kill them. The elephants who kill villagers will not eat the humans just trample them to death,so i would shoot that one and give the meat to the villagers for food.

I don't see any fun in shooting a giraffe either, but they have been used to feed the locals, which believe it or not, in most districts, are protein starved.

do you know individuals who engage in these activities OP? I don't think that type of hunting is really practiced much anymore.

Look those idiots over there have plenty of meat to feed them for entire populations. but the ignorant boons don't understand how to hunt and kill these animals for meat so they will not starve to death.

They will kill an elephant or some other animal to feed local populations if they need to. But they don't do it on a regular basis to help control the animal populations. Then you wonder why they're starving to death.

If it were me, I would hunt them to help feed the people and teach them how to hunt for themselves so they could feed their villages. otherwise, they will continue to sit outside in the dirt and eat flies.
