NEW ORLEANS – The shocking killing of a nearly two-year-old little girl who was sitting and playing in a courtyard has one state lawmaker ready to ask the governor to return the National Guard to the streets, Crimestoppers ready to double its usual reward and the police superintendent venting his anger at the court system.

Keria Gordon would have been two on Thursday, instead, that may be the day she is buried.

Police Superintendent Ronal Serpas believes that people in two cars opened fire on a man walking near the courtyard and hit both the intended target and Gordon.

It was a high profile killing in a city that several days ago surpassed the high total of murders for 2010 and it has some officials drawing a line in the sand.

State Representative Austin Badon wants the National Guard returned to help patrol city streets. He says he’ll formally ask Governor Jindal on Monday.

"Crime is spiraling out of control. Everybody's afraid,” he said. “You can't walk down the street without crimes happening and occurring. The bad guys are running the city right now. We've gotta take this city back.”

Crimestoppers took the unusual step of upping its traditional award to $4,000 in the effort to find Gordon’s killer or killers and to find the people who shot a nine-year-old boy just hours before. They also are adding a $1,000 gun reward for information on the weapons used in those shootings.

I have been coming to this site for a few years i really enjoy it,but i rarely ever post,but i posted this because it is factual and urgent.I hope it gets pinned but if not thats ok,i just hope people are aware of is going on in our country especially after the NDAA bill.God Bless and stay alert!

The poverty and lack of jobs for young black men is astounding in NOLA. New Orleans before Katrina used to have trade schools for the kids that weren't college bound - none of them were rebuilt after Katrina. There has also been little to no PTSD trauma healing for the children that went through the hurricane and witnessing people dying in the streets after the storm - many of these kids are now teens and in their 20's killin each other.

There has also been in my opinion, a concerted effort to gentrify NEW ORLEANS - I call it the Disneyfication of NOLA.

There are still houses ungutted since Katrina! There has been an ongoing effort since Katrina to break up the African American community and gentrify the city.

Does it help that these young men are killing each other and the children - NO! And I can tell you first hand after living in New Orleans 7th Ward, as a volunteer from 2007 to 2011 that there is so much social injustice and unfair practices against the African American community. The young people don't care anymore - they seem to have a death wish as a means to escape living hell - many will tell you they don't believe they will survive past 25.

The National Guard was here after Katrina and they are bringing them back - cause working with the people and helpin the people - the African American community - is not on the agenda.

It is so sad. So many good families, good people here. Their kids have given up and are killin each other. Soldiers ain't gonna heal that wound.

In the watchman of america video on the first page the governer talks about how they are "at war" here in america,and he was basically saying what the governement said when they passed the NDAA bill that America is now a "battlefield"

National Guard troops patrolled my hometown back in the 90's due to race riots. Lasted about 2 weeks, complete with helicopter patrols and nightly curfews. The National Guard was called in simply because the local police didn't have the manpower to patrol the area. I am surprised, however, that the shooting of a child would incite enough criminal activity to bring in the guard, though.

Unless it was the last straw. People living their will want the violence to stop. If the police can't handle it. Maybe the National Guard will.....That is what they are their for. To help is needed.

CAMDEN, N.J. - After the latest violence in crime-torn Camden, some local leaders are asking the National Guard to help security the city across the river from Philadelphia.

A deadly shooting at a Camden convenience store on Monday night left the owner dead and three people wounded.City leaders want Gov. Chris Christie to send in the national guard to police Camden.

They want more help for police after massive budget cuts trimmed 170 officers. Camden was able to hire back close to 30 officers thanks to grants.

In a statement to Fox 29, the press secretary for Gov. Christie said Camden's mayor was doing a good job in a difficult situation.“To her credit, Mayor Redd has managed law enforcement staffing well and, in fact, rehired many laid off police officers," said Michael Drewniak. "Unfortunately, it is hard not to note that the police union refused during extensive negotiations to accept any meaningful concessions which could have mitigated layoffs in the first place. We also know that Mayor Redd and county officials are working as quickly as possible to establish a county police force that will realize savings that could be used in part to assist in law enforcement staffing.”

Does the Indian community run that state ? or city . How did an Indian get elected the governor ? Just curious . I know they are America born , but Indians always remain strongly Indian culturally . Always , unless they go against family and marry outside of family choice and into western style families and cut ties to their families and that does not happen.
