A deadly shooting at a Camden convenience store on Monday night left the owner dead and three people wounded.City leaders want Gov. Chris Christie to send in the national guard to police Camden. They want more help for police after massive budget cuts trimmed 170 officers. Camden was able to hire back close to 30 officers thanks to grants. In a statement to Fox 29, the press secretary for Gov. Christie said Camden's mayor was doing a good job in a difficult situation.“To her credit, Mayor Redd has managed law enforcement staffing well and, in fact, rehired many laid off police officers," said Michael Drewniak. "Unfortunately, it is hard not to note that the police union refused during extensive negotiations to accept any meaningful concessions which could have mitigated layoffs in the first place. We also know that Mayor Redd and county officials are working as quickly as possible to establish a county police force that will realize savings that could be used in part to assist in law enforcement staffing.” [link to www.myfoxphilly.com] [/quote Last Edited by Desert Fox on 12/20/2011 06:11 PM :TOMABANEFOX: It's more humane this way ya know, or burn on totem pole. Anonymous Coward User ID: 7330165 Canada 12/20/2011 06:02 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I love New Orleans and have been there numerous times, although it was the only place in the world I have been mugged. The law enforcement needs to clean up their act. They are not protecting the innocent, but the offenders. People get away with anything and everything. If someone is charged, rarely does it even make it to trial. |

Shana Rose Reporting [email protected] It was another violent weekend in New Orleans. Among incidents, a drive-by shooting that left a 2-year-old child dead and a 9-year-old wounded. That's prompted New Orleans state Representative Austin Badon to call on Governor Jindal to send the National Guard to the Crescent City to help get crime under control. Badon says there has to be a more pro-active effort by law enforcement to stop these criminals once and for all, and remove them from society. "They don't care about our repercussions," Badon laments. "They commit these acts of violence in broad daylight, in front of a number of people. They fire indiscriminately. They don't care whose around, and we gotta take the fight to them. "We're at war." Governor Jindal says he urged Badon to take his request to Mayor Mitch Landrieu. Jindal says if the Mayor asks for National Guard help, he'll go to the legislature with that request. And now the NOPD confirms another homicide, as a man has been shot and killed Monday afternoon in the 2300 block of North Robertson in the St. Roch neighborhood Guardsmen patrolled New Orleans for over a year after Hurricane Katrina, to help police get a handle on criminals. Will they put the 'criminals" into trucks, trains, planes, and ship them to the FEMA work/detention facilities they just activated? Has happened before during wartime! After all, America is in a state of perpetual war, isn't it? Whole neighborhoods in many cities are just "war zones" anyway, aren't they? Isn't that what they're saying? |

By god, I would not send my worst enemy into that town...What damned fool would intentionally go to New Orleans? Quoting: Elsabiades.. 6778182 I intentionally go into New Orleans every week. Not once have I ever had a problem. Stay out of the areas that are dangerous. Every city has those sections that no one should visit. The poverty and lack of jobs for young black men is astounding in NOLA. New Orleans before Katrina used to have trade schools for the kids that weren't college bound - none of them were rebuilt after Katrina. There has also been little to no PTSD trauma healing for the children that went through the hurricane and witnessing people dying in the streets after the storm - many of these kids are now teens and in their 20's killin each other. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7320971 There has also been in my opinion, a concerted effort to gentrify NEW ORLEANS - I call it the Disneyfication of NOLA. There are still houses ungutted since Katrina! There has been an ongoing effort since Katrina to break up the African American community and gentrify the city. Does it help that these young men are killing each other and the children - NO! And I can tell you first hand after living in New Orleans 7th Ward, as a volunteer from 2007 to 2011 that there is so much social injustice and unfair practices against the African American community. The young people don't care anymore - they seem to have a death wish as a means to escape living hell - many will tell you they don't believe they will survive past 25. The National Guard was here after Katrina and they are bringing them back - cause working with the people and helpin the people - the African American community - is not on the agenda. It is so sad. So many good families, good people here. Their kids have given up and are killin each other. Soldiers ain't gonna heal that wound. OneLOVE 504soulJAH my cred: postkatrina.2007.blogspot.com All I can say to this is my sons both went to help evacuate people from their rooftops. Want to know what happened? When they got to those houses, they were spit on and had guns pulled on them. Some of the people living there are not civilized. Why is it that people of many different nationalities have settled in NOLA and have made successes of their lives as have many African Americans. Sorry but I don't buy the bullshit of poor, poor people no matter their race if they're content to live miserable lives. New Orleans still does have tech schools and some have been rebuilt. One reason not all of them have is that a lot of the people evacuated after Katrina have stayed put in new cities, including Baton Rouge which is now the most populous city in Louisiana. BTW, the crime rate there has soared since the influx of the poor disenfranchised have moved there. If you want to improve your life you can. It takes hard work but it can be done. A lot of these young males have chosen to try to make it as drug dealers and have invited violence into their lives. Is this a popular, politically correct view? No. Is it the truth? Yes. |
