Like somebody else said, I'm tired all the time but I sleep like shit. Now I'm in Trazodone to help with the sleep. I started taking 5 HTP to replace the seratonin that I'm losing with going off Cymbalta. I also take 2600mg of fish oil, calcium, B Complex with C, Zinc and a multi-vitamin.

I'm familiar with seratonin syndrome. So is my internist, she suggested the HTP-5 to offset the seratonin I'm losing from lowering my dose by 66%. I DO have doctors and I actually go to them.

I too take 60 mg Cymbalta per day due to failed back surgery and also to replace Lexapro for depression. Would like to start titrating down but need to get a prescription for lower dose capsule.

I do have Xanax and vicodin too to help, and those drugs may take the edge off if you have RX's for them. I take highest doese of Ambien at night along with 100 mcg Xanax and still have trouble falling asleep.

Good luck to you with the withdrawal symptoms.

the best way to quit any drug is to detox....

and the best detox is a steam room....

you need to take lots of vitamin c and mineral water before and after each session....

20 minutes everyday for about two weeks will get you to first base.....

it's all downhill from there....

no jonesing either....

eat lots of green veggies also...

take care...

I've been trying to ween myself off Cymbalta and it sucks. I went from 90mg to 60, then to 30 for about a week. This morning I forgot to take it and the frustration level is overwhelming. I work in a technical field and my patience is zero, I'm pissed off at everything and ready to effing kill anybody who crosses me. My intolerance for incompetence go through the roof when I go off that shit. I quit Zolft once and had the same withdrawal.

When I'm on it, things don't get to me but when I'm not, I get argumentative and combative...

Hope you never have the pain and problems sleeping that I'v had. Walk a mile in my shoes friend. How old are you? You may see thatmany unexpected things health wise can come bite you in the ass once you age some. A year and a half ago, at 49, I'd match myself athletically against most 30 year olds.

And even though I can not exercise-- I'm still on top of my game at work, so it's not like my mind is lost.

BTW -- just had 5 epicudural steriod injections from mid lumbar down to the si joint today from a pain management specialist. Am feeling pretty decent now. Seems like this set of injections may work. We'll see. If not, then I gotta go back and they go in and fry the nerve roots causing problems to stop the signal to the brain.

Like I said Atom "boy", walk a mile in my shoes, before you criticize.

Re: Trying to quit Cymbalta...it sucks!
OP, ignore the naysayers on this thread. You are definitely doing the right thing. We gotta do what we gotta do to get through the day. One thing I forgot to mention in my above reply is that, you need to have a non-medication 'backup'. There's a reason you went on the meds in the first place - and that reason still exists, because meds (and booze, pills, etc) just mask the real problem, which is an avoidance of whatever it is you need to face. I know how difficult this can be.

So, do you have a backup plan for those really rough days? Some natural drug-free things I've found to work really well are: an hour-long bath; hard exercise - push your way through the pain and you'll feel amazing!; a long walk; stand up against the trunk of a tree, it is very calming; sit in front of a fire for at least an hour. (Three hours in front of the fire is amazing! If you have time, that is).

St Johns Wart, Valerian Root and B Vitamins.

Not sure but Cymbalta might react with any of those so do your homework first. However, if you are off the Cymbalta for at least 1 week then you can take the 3 above. It will really help.

Be careful taking too many b vitamins. They can make you jittery and if taken too late in the day can cause sleep problems. Ask me how I know.LOL

You are unique. Someone someday may come along and look like you, but they will never have the qualities that you have. That potentially makes you a rare treasure.

We forget that we are rare treasures. The look to the world to tell us that we are. We look for love, friendship, affection, and romance, and those qualities that come from other people remind us that we are rare treasures.

We also forget that they are waiting for us to do the same for them. The more that you send out those positive feelings and actions, the more people will recognize it or resend it out to you. It may be that you need to relocate yourself to other like minded people, a scary thought since most of us hate change more, and this creates the principle of inertia.

I encourage you to risk loving the ones around you. Praise them for no reason. Be friends with as many people, but in sincere ways. Be affectionate in every way possible. Be romantic when your companion deserves it or not.

If you do this for 28 days, it will become a habit. People will notice. They may actually overcome their own fear of change and inertia and return your sincere affection.

All of us do damaging things to ourselves and others. That tends to happen because we aren't getting friendship, affection, love, and romance. It takes a long time for a wound to heal, and if a wound is picked on, then the scab falls off, and eventual scarring, and sometimes only a miracle can heal such wounds.

Work with your medical team and your family support system. Depression and anxiety can have a biological basis, but some people by working in community with others can overcome those conditions and have a life without anti-depressants.

They were never meant to be long term and they have side effects since they are artificially doing things to our bodies. The surprising thing is that when you urinate, the excess that isn't absorbed is polluting the water supply. Seriously:
[link to ag.arizona.edu]

There are many such articles. Those medicines are consumed by the community. There are even politicians who suggest adding Lithium to control the mood of their constituents.

You have more power than you know. You have power and you possess the rarest of treasures. You have power to send out affection and receive it.

You can do this. I believe in you.

Man, my heart goes out to you guys.

I don't care how shitty I feel about people or life, or myself--no one could convince me to go on prescription drug medication. Especially seratonin re-uptake inhibitors that constitute most anti-anxiety drugs these days.

Congratulations on getting off of that stuff, OP. Find a natural alternative and give your body the rest it needs to re-balance itself.

Amen...I agree.

I just don't understand why people can't experience their emotions regularly. If I am happy...I laugh. If I am sad...I cry. If I am angry...I scream. All normal emotions. I just experience my true feelings. Why do people think they have to mask the feeling. I have seen people on anti-depressants and they are like emotionless robots. What a shame. We are creatures with emotions....why not accept that.

What happens to all of those people if the SHTF and they can NOT get their drugs.....oh my ...run from those people FAST.
They will all go NUTS. That is the "plan".

I was stupid enough to listen to my "good" family doctor, thats why I started taking it. Went in never feeling well, and load a various symptoms. Doc say diagnosis is depression, I say no things are good except I don't feel good, I'm not depressed. Intimidating Doctor Phillip Isbell's (Denton Family Practice Assoc. in Denton, TX) exact words.. "well I've been a doctor for x number of years and I know someone who is depressed whan I see them". Stupid ass me, thought right I'm a dumb patient, he is a smart doctor that's why I came to him, so I'll do what he say's. Oh to be able to go back and change things!

Year plus later, feeling the same way I go back in, similar yet more severe symptoms. His blood work shows thyroid is bit sluggish, then just dismisses my symptoms and I'm told we'll just do blood work in few more months and see what it looks like... What nothing to help me feel better.

I guess I'm glad he didn't prescribe anything else though cause that same day a made an appt with new doctor. This doc did more blood work, said yes you need to be on thyroid med, and you are vitamin d defficent (Old doc NEVER has check my vitamin levels.)

Now on 50000 Vit D 2x's week, and synthroid. Plus new doc gave me smaller cymbalta doses for me to beging quitting cymbalta.

Have finished the smaller dose and am now on day four of being cymbalta free.....Blah, I feel most aweful!
(just googled has anyone ever died from quitting cymbalta, cause I feel I could)

Now on I will deeply research anything RX or OTC before taking it even if a "doctor" desides I need it.

Taper these things very slowly. Getting off 300mg of Effexor without major issues can take over a year of tapering. People often jump off of these things and end up right back on them when withdrawal symptoms are mistaken for "underlying illness".

Glad to see you starting to see.

All the 'pharmaceutical' concoctions are poisons of one sort or another. This kind of therapy is called 'allopathic', which means 'poison fights poison'.

There are other therapies. They are under direct threat by the allopathic interests.

'Poison kills poison' works fine when you've been bitten by a snake or spider - something similar. It works well in some other cases too, but for chronic conditions it's just the dog chasing its tail.

This poison causes a side effect and the only answer the allopaths have is more poison to fight that poison. On and on.

Don't jump on the roundabout in the first place.
