OMFG!!! I Just Made a Pecan Pie to die for !!!!!!!! Wanna piece ?
I made one for Thanksgiving and it was so good I had to make one for Christmas

This is real Pecan Pie not the overly sweet goo-yee Garbage (Karo) that you get at the store or Bakers Square.
The filling is more the texture of carmel pudding than the dogshit toothsticker from the stores. If you know a Pecan Pie lover this is the one "and only" that you make.

1/2 cup butter
1 Tablespoon white flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1/8 cup of brown sugar
1 cup Alaga Original Syrup
4 eggs
1 cup pecan pieces
1/8 cup of evaporated milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 unbaked (9-inch) pie shell

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Melt butter in a skillet pan on open flame (stove top). Add the flour, sugar and mix well. Add Alaga Original Cane Syrup, sugar, vanilla, mix well and bring to a boil for 3 minutes. Let mixture cool. Mix in "well" eggs and the evaporated milk. Pile Pecans in pie shell and pour in prepared mixture. Bake for 55 minutes. Yields 8 servings

Here is a link from Amazon for the Syrup. It is 100% pure cane syrup. Notice that this recipe says to bring to a boil the filling mixture in a saucepan before you put it in the pieshell. This is what gives this pie it's unique pudding texture filling and is more representitive of a real Pecan Pie. Most Pecan Pies from the store or the Bakers Square taste like sticky gooey dogshit compared to this pie.
People that say they don't like Pecan Pie have never had anything but the Garbage from the store.

Try a real one !

I have been a Pecan Pie expert since my childhood (Almost 50 years ago)

Sounds awesome OP! Recipe saved, will probably make this one tomorrow. Always great to find original recipes from country of origin.

One thing though... Alaga Original Syrup, that's something I never heard of & most likely won't be able to get in the UK easily. From what I can find on Google, this sounds like a regular cane syrup & I'm wondering if this can be substituted for golden syrup, or is it more caramel like maple in flavour? Is it very heavy like treacle or watery like maple? (these details make the difference!)

You can make a thick syrup with white or dark brown sugar or mixed according to your tastes. 2 cups sugar, 1 cup water, boil down a bit, don't let it get to softball stage though. If you can't get real cane syrup boiled out of the cane, this will work. Add quality maple flavoring for a pancake syrup with a little butter in it.

I found the syrup at Jewel here in Chicago. One poster asked above if it was thin like maple syrup. Its not.
It's very thick. I have eaten over 1000 pieces of pecan pie in my life (it's my favorite) try and get the syrup as it makes "all" the difference.

I never tried this recipe with Karo or some other syrup.

I promise, if you use this syrup with this recipe....It's the "BOMB"

I can't stand the store bought or the Bakers Square pie outlets pies. Their pies taste like shit.

That's why I say that 99% of people that say they hate Pecan pie have "never" had one. Just the "Karo" store crap.

I bought mine at Jewel Foods near Chicago

Amazon can ship this stuff.

I remember shipping cases of Alaga syrup to Yankee relatives when I was a kid. There is NOTHING like it - you can't beat it. You can't buy it in the grocery store much outside of Alabama/Georgia, though (which is where it's name is from). I buy 2-3 bottles ever year when I go to Alabama for Christmas. Can't even buy it in TN.

Thanks for the recipe, OP.

recently I was not fully awake, and was baking and accidently added a bunch of sugar to my coffee cooking on the stove. I make old fashioned boiled coffee. WEll not wanting to waste that sugar, I strained the coffee grounds out and then boiled the coffee down into thick syrup. GAWD that was GOOD. I didn't make a pie with it, used it on pancakes though. Sometimes the "accidents" in the kitchen can produce something wonderful.

Toast the pecans first and add chocolate chips. Make fresh whipped cream from scratch. This is just about the very best desert there is in my opinion. I've seldom had anyone not like it save those who can't eat nuts.

Kick it up a notch and add chocolate chips and make it into a Derby Pie. Many people make it that way versus the traditional walnuts.
