It is in the Western world, its social structure is less racist than the USA's. Mexico's social structure lacks of money but not cohesion.Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7681740
Not really, implicit racism is well wired in Mexican society, de facto preserving the caste system from the colonisation era. Most people in upper income neigbourhoods are white-ish, the stereotypical brown that most of you gringos know dominate lower income areas, including slums, whilst middle income areas tend to be an interesting mixing of both. Mexicans have a well built patriotism, based on a mix of Catholic symbolism and PRI party nationalist propaganda present on the education system for a good part of the 20th century (both decaying), but there our 'cohesion' stops. There is a strong regional divide (Mexico is not homogeneous, and culture in Sonora is quite different than that in Chiapas), quite similar to the South-North divide in the US, also, there is a well defined urban-rural divide, but that could be the same on every country, though. You might think of cohesion in Mexicans because when abroad (namely, the US), the 'brotherly reflex' shows up, but when here, it's like it's a national sport to look for reasons to be divided.
Having shown that I'm no blind, flag-waving chauvinist, I only want to say that I'm still amazed at the cynicism of some of you looking down on this country as if the narco issue was an only-Mexican thing, as if the "land of the free and home of the brave" was not the world's largest drug consumer and like if its loose gun policies weren't costing lives down here as well.
