I have also noticed a lot of trees have died on the cam in the back ground when they zoom in you can see that a lot of trees have been dieing off. |

So, in the event of something major going on there in yellowstone, would it be visible on this cam? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 5680160 Could be, however if an eruption at Yellowstone occurs, the eruption epicenter would at one of the Resurgent Domes, either Sour Creek Dome or Mallard Lake.....Mallard Lake is close to Old Faithful though.... Harrison is basically saying that it is worth keeping an eye on Old Faithful, Why??? Because Old Faithful near perfectly runs on clockwork.....If any changes happen with Old Faithful could indicate a problem.....That's why it's worth keeping an eye on the timings as well |

Quoting: jharrison12133 7110928 What I do know about the trees is this.......but don't know if the this affected the trees near Old Faithful.... There has been a number of forest fires in the past...Pelican Cone was hit really badly in 1988... For an Easterner, whose only taste of wilderness may be a hike through the forest not far from the main road through a nearby state park, horsepacking through the vast wilderness of eastern Yellowstone National Park is the adventure of a lifetime. Under normal conditions, the landscape here borders on the spectacular, but after the disastrous fires of 1988, it took on a ghostly aura that I won't soon forget. This was a far cry from the searing heat and power of the fires that swept through this area during the late summer of 1988. Twenty-five thousand firefighters, assisted by 4,000 U.S. military personnel, 400 fire trucks, and 120 Chinook helicopters, all gathered to fight one of the worst fires in the history of the West in shifts lasting as long as 14 hours. Aircraft dropped 14 million gallons of fire retardant chemicals and 10 million gallons of water on the flames. Crews fought through old growth, new growth and meadow, the calico pattern left by fires of other times. The Yellowstone fires of 1988 together formed the largest wildfire in the recorded history of Yellowstone National Park. Read More (With Pictures) [link to www.bobbrooke.com] |

[link to www.isthisthingon.org] I actually thought this may of been an EQ somewhere else in the world because as you know, Yellowstone can pick up on large Earthquakes....After Checking USGS, I see there was a fairly large EQ of 5.8 in the Phillipines at 16:36 UTC, looking at the times though, Yellowstone picked up an earthquake before the Phillipines.....As there is no other EQs listed around that time, then we can safetly say that it was either in or around the border of the park... USGS EQs List: [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] Once again, nothing is showing up on the USGS's Yellowstone EQ Page.... [link to www.seis.utah.edu] Meanwhile, activity at Pelican Cone still seems really strong with Mirror Lake still picking up the activity... Pelican Cone: [link to www.isthisthingon.org] Mirror Lake: [link to www.isthisthingon.org] Still a bit choppy on Mary Lake's & Mt Sheridan's Graphs.. There is a written protocol they have to follow for officially raising the alert level at Yellowstone. [link to pubs.usgs.gov] I speculate that they are very cautious about raising the alert level or making any public statements until they are *really* sure they need to do so. Imagine all the people who saw that 2012 John Cusak movie utterly freaking out and losing their shit if USGS even hinted at increased activity. |

There has been a significant long quake or tremor in the last 20 mins, around 20:05/20:10 UTC which was picked up by a number of stations........... You can see all the stations here with the quake/tremor hitting : [link to www.isthisthingon.org] What is interesting is the distance between Soda Butte & Moose Creek, 69.87km. It was picked up on both of them. The only EQ to happen around that time was a 5.7 in Vancouver Island, Canada at 20:05 UTC........... 5.7 2012/02/04 20:05:32 48.867 -127.876 12.8km VANCOUVER ISLAND, CANADA REGION [link to earthquake.usgs.gov] Does anyone know if this is related to the Yellowstone tremor??? Would the shock of the quake come that far???? Last Edited by Gizzie on 02/04/2012 03:48 PM |
