Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
My first semester of college I decided to go on a walk in a wooded area with some people I had just met. It was our first week in school and we were just getting to know each other...

It was nearly 10pm and very dark with little illumination from the moon. We were walking along a chain link fence looking for a good spot to hop over and head into the woods. A portion of the fence had been cut and it formed a perfect archway. We walked through it and trudged through some thick grass heading for the trees.

After walking around for 20 minutes or so and joking around everyone took a break in a small clearing to smoke cigarettes and talk. I listened in to several conversations and started to get extremely paranoid because they were talking about me.....but personal experiences that had happened in my life. There was no way they could have known those things about me because I didn't know any of them.

Something weird happened. I guess I blacked out or something. I remember being enveloped in white light... not physically but just that I experienced light in my mind or something.. I came back into consciousness kneeling beneath a large tree and I was alone freaked as hell and wondering what happened..

I found my way back but couldn't sleep that night. By my recollection I lost 5 minutes of my life, at least thats what it seemed like.. I didn't have a watch so it could have been longer.. I approached some of the people I had gone into the woods with the next day to find out what the hell happened, but no one remembered going in there with me, or at least denied it... I was so disturbed by this experience I packed my shit and got a job cleaning windows.... Very profound experience that potentially changed my course in life...

I got a special wilderness permit to go into an area in the mountains in CA where they hadn't allowed foot traffic in, in twenty years. There were no trails. It was myself and two other Marines and we did it in exchange for seeing if there was a rare kind of trout in the streams up there. I guess the forest service didn't have anyone who wanted to do it. I'm not sure I was set up with this by a friend. Anyway we hiked for two days with no trails using just a map and compass and on the second day we walked around this huge cliff to find a full on cabin with a lawn and solar power and washer and dryer the whole nine yards all built into the rock face of the cliff. You couldn't see it from above so it had gone unoticed for years. We talked to the guy that lived there and he said we were the first people he had seen hike in, in 14 years. He was a retired helicopter pilot and he had flown all the equipment in by helo. He was squatting on federal land and knew it but didn't seem worried. He said he hikes out every two weeks for supplies by a different route then we came in and he showed it to us. We used that route to get back as he had a trail beaten down so the walking was easier. All in all it was pretty cool. The trout the forest service was looking for were in the creeks so it is still closed to foot travel and we never told the forest service about the old helicopter pilot so I would bet he is still out there.

He sure is going to alot of trouble to get supplies and live in such a remote area. It sounds like he knows something we don't.

About 10 years ago this guy I worked with said he saw/heard the light and whistle of a train in the middle of the woods. He also said he saw a man dressed in buckskin and a coonskin cap and when he turned back to look at him again he was gone. Those took place in western Indiana near Terre Haute when he was hunting. He also belonged to a bigfoot group and said that there had been sightings in southern Indiana and in Ohio and that they had hair samples that could not be identified as human or any known animals.

There are a lot of weird things in NEPA woods.

Coal mining stuff, Native American stuff, Paths in the woods that used to be used by carriages, porn, outhouses

My town is set in the woods basically, and one time me and a bunch of friends went to an old abandoned building, that used to be a mill, and on the one floor there were thousands of some type of scattered checks. They all had names on them, but if I remember correctly, the letters looked typed. It was really weird, and I always wondered where it came from. The whole building was weird though, really.

Once on the Eastern Olympic Peninsula Old Growth, in the dark of night peeing I watched a lime green ball of light move from a fir tree to a cedar tree. Not 20 miles from that same spot driving home from another trip I watched a light move horizontally across the sky, then immediately change course and disappear vertically.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I was through hiking the Appalachian Trail last year, when I got lost and found myself off the trail, in a strange, dark hollow with heavy moss and one running stream. It was getting dark, and starting to rain. I found a cave just above the creekbed, and there were no bear-tracks, so I went in for shelter.

Sometime in the night, a bear DID come, right into the cave, and I had no way out! Keeping my head, I crawled deeper into the cave and found a passage too small for the bear to fit. It led to a long crawlway ending in a little alcove.

I had no light, and was terrified. But the sound of the bear in the bigger room faded away. This new room was cozy, with what felt like mounds of soft moss and crackly leaves all over the floor. A breeze blew through, and the leaves, though I couldn’t see them, seemed to move all over, they tickled me all night long, making it hard to sleep.

The next morning I crept back out to see if the bear was gone – he was. So I exited back into the hollow. I had a terrible rash all over my body from the itchy bedding I had slept on, and couldn’t stop scratching as I gathered my stuff and went down the creek looking for a road and some directions back to the trail.

I found another trail along the creek, and in a few hours, it ended at a dirt road. There I rested, trying to decide which way to walk for help. My skin was bleeding in spots now, and pustules were forming at the itchiest places. I thought I might need some cream or something.

A Game Warden jeep came around the bend, and when the Warden saw me sitting at the trailhead, he stopped.

“You planning on going up there?” he asked, gesturing up the trail I had come down.

“No, actually-” I began, but the itching on my skin made me stop short to scratch.

“Well, if you are, just stay the hell clear of Spider-Nest Cave.”

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
In my youth I spent a lot of time outdoors and I've seen some very odd things and a lot of wildlife.

I've seen mountain lion in the coastal mountains of N. California and up in the pacific northwest. I've seen rattlesnakes all over northern california and plenty of black widow spiders.

I came face to face with a juvenile moose in MA.

One night while hiking in northern CA with a friend, we heard an odd buzzing sound that started to get louder. We were in a large canopy of trees. Suddenly a bizarre looking ball of electrical plasm entered into the area we were in, buzzed around a bit as if checking us out and then left.

I got chased out of someone's pot garden by a machete wielding madman and also got escorted off of cult property by a shotgun wielding horseman, among other highlights.

The entire inside walls and ceiling of the shed were covered 3 inches deep in daddy long leggers. They all seemed to be interlocked with their legs. There must have been 50,000 of them. They were all tapping their right longest front leg on the tin of the shed in unison. It was one of the weirdest things I ever saw. They also seemed to put off a weird smell in large numbers like that.

I always wondered about this. Has anyone else ever seen such a thing?
 Quoting: LUCUS

YES! I had a similar experience. As a kid I pried open the door of an old wood shed near the edge of this private school, that was right next to some open space woodlands.

I almost went inside when I discovered to my horror that there was a layer, several inches thick, of squirming daddy long legs all inside that shed. It gave me nightmares for a while.

This happened in Marin county in CA.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
When I was a kid I would go blueberry picking with my family outside of town and we would make a whole day of it. When I got older I would once in awhile go to the same place to pick berries by myself since most of my family had gotten too old to go with me or had since moved away.

One such time I was picking berries by myself and felt a strange sensation that someone was watching me. This was very unusual because I was miles from the nearest house and I had not seen or heard anyone on the trail the whole time I was there.

The feeling became so overwhelming that I became uncomfortable being there. It was broad daylight and I felt rather embarrassed by my odd feeling of fear. I finally just packed it in and started my long walk back home and for the first time realized that to get to town I had to first pass through 2 cemeteries on each side of the road. They never bothered me before and I didn't evem think about them on the way in. I remember dreading having to walk by them and hoped someone would drive by because I felt so alone... and this was with the sun out and what most would consider a 'beautiful summer day'.

I moved away from town soon after and have gone back to visit on numerous occasions but never went blueberry picking at that location again. In fact, even driving through the area during the day by myself would give me the creeps. I don't know what it was that freaked me out that day but 37 years later and it still sends a shiver up my spine.

 Quoting: OmarEastwind

No, the real question is what would make a person who just saw a child's casket think to make a table out of it?

Some people have no respect whatsoever.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7949952

Respect for what? The casket was NOT used. It was just some pine boards, in a casket shape. But, you can get upset about that if you want to...it's still kindof a free country.
 Quoting: OmarEastwind

I dunno but I would have reported it to the authorities. I've never heard of finding a casket, any casket, in the woods. It being a child's casket, well that sends chills up my spine. I wonder if the police knew of any missing children in those parts? Just saying.
 Quoting: RedlicoriceRedux

I know of atleast one child that went missing in the Ozarks and was never found - Morgan Nick. What's odd is on another forum, a girl (who lives in the Ozarks) swears she has seen the exact truck and trailer that took her at an old house and barn that's quite far out from anything, and she's told the police (different ones a couple of times) and they blew her off and absolutely won't even check it out. So sad. She was really worked up over it and posted it in case someone else could do something. I e-mailed the Morgan Nick foundation and they ignored my e-mail as well. Suspicious, considering every interview her mother does, she cries and asks for ANY information to call the cops or her, they will
"investigate everything"...apparently not. Very suspicious.wtf I'm not sure which forum it was because this was 2 years ago or I would link it.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Me and my friends were 14 in Western Maryland. My family were camping in some campground near the Catoctin area. The first night, my friend Collin said it would be neat to sneak out at midnight when my parents go to bed in the camper, walk a mile and a half down 70 and to Cunningham Falls at night. So it's 11pm, we each pack water, trail mix from cereals and etc, a flashlight, batteries, switchblade, my dads' army knives, and rope (We thought Cunningham Falls needed rope to climb, but you can scramble up easily).

So we reach the enterance, nobody at the poll booth to go to the parking lot. So we reach the place of ascent, you can either take a 1/2 mile trail straight to the waterfall, or a 4/5 trail going up on a few ridges and backways. So we go the 4/5 trail and the trails are only marked by these blue arrows which lead to the fall. We continue on, and we reach a top of a ridge.

This is where it starts getting weird; we see blue lights zooming left and right above us. I said, "UFO" quietly. We stay out of sight, but I was cautious of the local snakes and what not. All of a sudden, the lights start spiraling and my friend Bryce starts freaking the fuck out. The lights then go about 2 football fields to the south of us, and descend. Where the lights went to is around the area of where you start the trails.

So we sprint full force towards the falls and we reach it about 10 minutes later. We scramble to the top, not needing the rope and take a breather. We start drinking water and eating trail mix. It's around 12:45 am. We sit for a bit more and wait until about 1am. We then start looking around the rock formations on top of the falls and find some interesting symbols on the ground.

My friend Collin stupidly decides to taste the powder making the symbols, figuring it was salt. And it was salt. We then thought this was the dumbest idea ever, and then we see it.Only one blue light coming towards the falls. We go into the indents of the rocks to stay out of sight. It circles around for half an hour. Then we hear rustles in the leaves leading to the falls, kind of like footsteps.

Then I see 4 men approaching with flashlights. They were dressed in suits, and each had headsets on their right ear. We just stay hidden, not knowing who they are, and what's going on. I could imagine it was around 2am now, and they are wandering around the rocks and the waterfall, not coming to the side near us. I can see one of their eyes, it's like he has cats eyes or something of the sorts.

The blue lights comes back and they use their headsets and say something. All of a sudden, the blue lights go towards the ridges in the trail we came from, and the 4 guys were running towards them, with guns drawn. Around 10 minutes later, you hear gunshots and even more gunshots. My friend Bryce is catatonic on the ground going, "What the fuck. What the fuck. What the fuck." and me and Collin are scared shitless.

We then decide to go the 1/2 a mile way back, staying as far from the ridge trail as possible. We are hulling ass at this point, and the bluelights start going in zigzags going the opposite way as us. We reach the parking lot near the lake around 2:30am. We see 2 all black sports cars. No lights, no decals, just all black, and tinted windows. We look at each other and say "Oh shit!" we don't see anybody around, so we book it to the poll booth at the enterance of the park.

We go back out on 70, and about 1/2 away from our campground, we hear dozens, and I mean DOZENS of sirens blaring towards Cunningham Falls. We finally reach our tent around 3:15am. We could not sleep until around 5am.

I swear to God on the Bible and everything else, that this was 100% true. It happened a few years ago. All I know is, is that I KNOW we 3 saw something we were NOT supposed to see that night.

Seriously, what. the. fuck?

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I have lots of stories!

First, my mom and brothers' story. They were driving home (probably 14 years ago) and saw a panther sitting on the side of the road. (we live in the mdidle of nowhere). This was in western Arkansas...it was near our house, so my mom called Game & Fish Commission since my brother and I were young at the time. They told her she was crazy and that there are no panthers in Arkansas. They said there used to be but there were no longer. Well, she told a few other people and others had seen them too, not often but they knew they existed. My mom later got into Wildlife Rehabilitation (she loves animals) and the man who trained her for a year or so told her the Game and Fish Commission along with most of our government try to hide things like that (duh, but it makes you wonder what else they lie about). He had no idea why they lied about it but he said he had officers SEE a panther with their own eyes and still deny it. They're endangered, but there.

We live in some pretty thick woods. I've actually lived in 2 different areas. In the first house, we lived in an old house. It came with 2 barns, tons of land, and an outhouse. There was also PART of another, bigger house out back that the slave owners had lived in. We lived in the "slave" house, someone had added on to it. I won't go into details with this house except that it was so old you could push on it and the halls would move, and I'd say it was definitely haunted, but that's a story for another thread. Anyway, the land this farm was on, there was a civil war battle that happened there. If we walked into the woods near the creek, there were some crazy things. The feeling of being watched, we found cannonballs, old buttons, old clothes...I haven't been there in years (lived there when I was 8 and 9) and actually just got married and live nearby. We're going to check the place out this weekend, because I'm so curious.

On the other land we lived on, we had a huge field, a creek, and then behind the house, a hill with a bluff at the top. It took 20-30 minutes to climb up the hill to get to the bluff. About halfway up, someone (Native Americans I'm sure) had taken the time to find a flat spot, flatten it more, knock down every tree and clear it of rocks. My mom and I found this spot and just stopped dead in our tracks. A huge clearing, on the side of a hill that was flat. No trees, no rocks. I haven't dug around much up there but we did find a rock object that looked like it was carved into some kind of...masher. Like you'd mash potatoes or other things with. There was a creek by our house, too, and we once found a rock there that had been hollowed out in the middle like a bowl. We also had places out in the woods that were cleared like someone had been buried there, like body-sized areas with no trees or rocks on it. I found one that looked slightly fresh once, in the middle of the woods, maybe 1-2 years old. I instantly got a creepy feeling and my friend and I had found it, so we went back and got shovels and dug, and dug, and dug, thinking someone was buried there...we never found anything but I'm not sure we dug deep enough either. My parents live there and I always think of going back to dig even deeper. We also had huge trees with rocks collected on one side, definitely where bodies were buried. And on the edge of the woods, huge, huge piles of rocks and dirt...not sure what that would be about. And by the creek on the edge of the woods in the field, we have an area surrounded by these yellow flowers, not sure of the kind. Obviously there used to be a house there, which is super neat to me.

Once we were walking along and by those flowers, we found a little calf just laying there, I guess it's momma had left it there for a while. It was just really unexpected. And near there we also stumbled across a huuuuuge clearing. We crossed the creek and slipped between a few trees, and there was an absolutely huge clearing there, surrounded by trees, but no trees IN it, bigger than 3/4 (1200-1300 sq foot)houses put together...but here's the kicker. It was full of bones. Mostly cow bones (the people who own the land next to us have thousands of cows) but it also had raccoon/armadillo/etc. bones there. I just found it odd that they picked THAT area as their boneyard. Creeped me out the first time I saw it, before I realized it was cows.

Oh, and once when I was 12 or so we were up camping in those woods...about 10 of us. I was in the tent with my cousin, who was about 14 at the time. My dad had the flashlight and I don't remember what he was doing, I knew it had something to do with my brother, who was about 9...I assume he had to go pee and didn't want to do it in the dark. Anyway everyone else besides us, my dad, and brother was sitting around the campfire about 20 feet away. My dad was standing by the entrance to our tent (tent opening was facing west) and we were sitting in the tent (had those mesh windows facing north and south). My dad was facing the north shining the light back and forth. Not sure what my cousin and I were doing in the tent but she said "Oh my god, look" and I could tell she was scared. She pointed out the north tent window and I didn't see anything at first. My dad shined the light around and instantly I saw what she was talking about. I SWEAR it was Bigfoot. I could see the eyes and hair, it was tall...it's head was above a branch in the tree and he was looking straight in at us. I was in shock...my dad shined the light over it's face and then back, when he shined it over again there was nothing there at all. I never heard it move, I don't know how it happened but my cousin and I both saw it. I asked her what she thought she saw and she said Bigfoot so to this day I know it's not BS...not sure what else it could have been. I know my dad didn't see it and he doesn't believe in that stuff anyway.

Another time we were camping on the Buffalo River (I think I was about 14) in the Ozarks, on the bank, not on a campground. Across the bank, there was a huge cliff. Well, everything was fine, until we went to sleep. My brother and I were in the tent and my parents stayed up for awhile by the fire. I woke up to a BOOM, like somebody had slammed something into the rocks on the bank. I noticed my mom and dad were still outside, and said "Mom? What was that?" and she said "Honey, stay in the tent. Shhh" and I knew it was something weird. I heard them talking quietly and then heard a splash. I heard my mom go "oh my god" and so of course I disobeyed and got out of the tent. It happened a few times for me to witness. We couldn't really see up on the cliff but we could tell it was coming from there - something was throwing rocks at us and obviously didn't want us there. Not just something - something big. They were pretty big rocks. It was FREAKY. Scared the crap out of me. It stopped after a few more times but I don't think my parents slept that night, and I'm not sure how I did!

Oh and another story - like I said, we lived in a house in the middle of the woods. In the back of the house, we had huge windows. Me and my now husband and my brother came home one day. They sat in the living room (the couch was in front of those windows) and were watching TV. I was in my room changing clothes when I heard my brother yell and then my husband yell GET IN HERE NOW!!! I raced in there and they were both staring out the window with these crazy looks on their faces. I looked out and at first thought it was one of my two dogs. It was black just like them, but then I realized it was bigger.

The dog was laid out perfectly, dead, on a pair of my dads' overalls. The ones he kept on the back porch when he went out to work. Not only was the dog dead, but it had been SLICED open, from neck to tail on the stomach. You could see the blood and meat inside, but there was no blood pouring out, no puddle, no dog prints, no foot prints, no animal prints at all or blood trail. It was muddy outside, and we all went to check it out. We have no idea who did it, it had to have been someone. I figure they were still in the woods watching us when we got home...they had to have watched my mom leave and done it then. I don't know who the dog belonged to or why someone would even do it, but it was purposely killed and laid out by our window for us to see. We even looked for somewhere they may have killed the dog, but couldn't find anything. We thought at first maybe someone killed it somewhere else, drained it, etc...then moved it to our house. But we live in the middle of nowhere, the dog had no flies around it, there was no blood around the wound, it didn't smell, and it still felt pretty freshly dead.

My mom had just left an hour before we got home, and swears the dog wasn't there then because she remembers looking out the window at some birds and seeing the overalls there and reminded herself to tell my dad to move them.

Pretty creepy. We buried the poor thing out in the woods.

Saw one myself, this past Spring (2011) in my back pasture, crossing behind our pond to a treeline next to our creek.

It was HUGE and very muscular.

Interesting that they officially do not exist, and yet it is a crime to kill one here.

I'm in a rural area 50 miles south of Shreveport La., about 90 miles from the Arkansas border.

We had a huge tree in the woods beside out house with claw marks from knee level to about 8 or 9 feet up - the bark was absolutely shredded. I'll have to see if my hubby still has that photo on his phone & post it here if he does.

Cool stories, btw!

This is not in the woods, but the other day some dude started whacking off on the street, pounding the ground in a strange manner and generally going nuts. Everyone thought he was on drugs, or had a demon from far far away set lose on him, i'm not sure how the story ended, they carted him off. never.to.be.seen.again.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Today, around 2:45 pm at Tuckahoe State Park in Maryland, I decided to walk the trails with my basset hound puppy. About 5 minutes in I see a car half way buried in dirt with the seats and steering wheel removed. I didn't find it that weird, but still, wtf. 20 minutes later, I see this about 50 year-old man with a long, grey and white beard. He had ared and black lumberjack coat with a sweater underneath it. He also had on a truckers cap, snow boots, and black pants. Keeping in mind it was around 85 degrees today, I turned to him, while holding mu puppy because it got tired.

With my puppy panting in my ear, he says a deep "Hello." I reply with a "Good afternoon. Say, don't you think it's a bit hot out? You're dressed up suited for the winter and it's 85 degrees out."

He replies "Don't you think it's a bit hot out for your pup? He's panting a storm and seems tired. Here." He then continues to pull out some Deer Park water and a few Milkbones. I put my pup down, and the man continues to let the dog lap water from the bottle. After my pup finishes, he hands my pup a Milkbone.

A few minutes pass of just standing there with the man. He's standing across from me, just smiling looking as happy as he can be. He says "Ah I remember when I was your age, out exploring these parts and what not. I take comfort out here, the seclusion from the government and all."

I say "Well, yea. Say, you're a conspiracy theorist too?"

"Yup. Government needs to disclose the situations with the Annunaki, JFK, and 9/11. Now let me tell you a story, follow me."

I was a bit cautious, but I'm very curious. He leads me deep into the trails, I didn't even know the park was this big. We must have went to the west side of the lake. He carried my pup for me and gave me some trail mix of peanuts and cashews. He points up, giving my pup's leash to me. I see up in the pine trees, a tree house, about 10' by 10'.

"This is where I live. But with seclusion, comes a price. Believe it or not, I was abducted a few months ago on the Winter Solistice. I was making my way from fishing the lake to my spot here. This man in a black suit morphs into a 12' tall ET. A small craft comes over head. He hits me over the head with a piece of metal. I wake up in my bed in my treehouse next morning. I climb down thinking it was a dream. But there was this pinkish-reddish powder on the ground."

"Wow. What are your tipsfor me and any warnings about the future, mister?"

"Keep strong, fight for freedom or die trying. And watch out for the men in black and aliens."

I say "Thank you.Have a good day, I'll come back and visit one day."

"That would be appreciated young man, I get lonely out here, and when somebody does wander to these parts, they're ignorant idiots. I'll be seeing you."

I smile, and pick up my pup. I turn around and walk a good distance. I turn around to wave with my free hand. HE WAS NOT THERE! NEITHER WAS THE TREEHOUSE. NOT A THING.

I get creeped the fuck out and ran all the way back to the buried car. I then look back again. I see the man waving a mile down the trail and vanish with the wind. My dog gets excited and happy, which was the weirdest thing, like my pup was okay and caring of the old man. I get chills down my spine and everything. I walk back to the car and my granparents say "You look like you seen a ghost."

Haha...
wtf
