Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I hunt a lot near my house during archery season.

I usually am pretty fearless of woods in the dark. But every once in a while I get this freaked out feeling ... like something is there or watching you. The kind of feeling that makes you want to rush to your stand site and at least get up your tree for some comfort.

Well anyways long story short, 15 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh. I got out a few evenings in a row and every time I was freaking out walking out of the woods in the dark. I felt like something was watching me. Something just was "off" about it. I can't say what made me do it, but I refused to use my light figuring if someone was trying to follow me or something, a flashlight is a dead giveaway. So I snuck back home quietly and following good trails.

A few days later, I was driving home from work (after dark) and I see two small yearling deer BOLT across the road like they were completely panic stricken. I never have seen a deer run like this other than when your shooting a firearm and they have that "WTF RUN" where they take off and get the hell out of there. I slow down thinking there may be another one behind them and I don't want to cream it with my truck.

Sure enough another deer comes from behind them. Except ... well ... it wasn't a deer. It was a 60-70lbs cat. Maybe a mountain lion. This was 500 yards from my house. So I fly home, tell the family, told my grandparents who live down there to keep an eye on the dog, etc.

Everyone said I was nuts.

Two or three weeks later, a witness saw them in an alley of a VERY residential area. The game commission came out and confirmed the tracks to be a 150+lbs mountain lion.

FWIW - By my house would be a prime area for a passing predaator to sit tight. A lot of game, very thick woods, and vines/briars that are nearly non-passable.

Other than that, the only other weird things I have seen were people who shouldn't be that far back in the woods that surprise you. But people are idiots and never notice you up in a tree ... so I can't say I ever worry about random people being in the woods lol.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
A friend and I were walking a trail just above a river and decided to go lower down to walk along river edge. I don't know why we picked that particular place to drop down to the river because it was one of the thickest with trees and brush but that's where we chose. Across from that spot, on the far bank, are some waterfalls and we could hear them from the high trail.

Next to the river, and hidden from trail above, was a large, natural, flat rock alter maybe 20 ft square. There were large rocks on it forming pentagon, melted white candles all over and blood. There was quite a bit of blood in natural pockets of the rock alter.

When I got home I called the S.O. and they told me that they didn't investigate "devil worshiping" even with the presence of blood! I knew several deputies so called one of them at home who told me that one of our judges was allegedly the head of the devil worshiping ring and it was he who got the sheriff to stop investigating such things.

It pissed me off so my friend and I went back and threw all the pentagram rocks in the river and wrote messages to the assholes on the natural alter.

Have no idea if the blood was human or animal. The day we were walking was at end of March. Apparently March 21st is a big ritual night.

I wouldn't spend any time at all in woods, and forests.

There are all kinds of sick motherfuckers and ass-reamin' "Deliverance" hillbillies out there, doing God only knows what!

With the exception of the pleasant hillbilly gent above, who made a coffee table out of a child's casket, of course!

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Once I was walking on some railroad tracks that went thru the woods near my house. I had my dog with me and it was near dusk. As we walked along, I suddenly heard some low mumbling coming from the brush near the road. I believe my dog (a loyal 90lb Doberman) heard the noise but didn't seem to care. It sound exactly how you would expect a leprechaun or a troll to make, like mumbling in a strange language. The sound was low to the ground, like something short and small. I just kept walking and more or less ignored it. It totally tripped me out, I didn't see any thing, but I didn't imagine it either. I have heard porcupines can make a mumbling sound that can seem like human noises and that would explain it. My dog may have realized it was porcupine and new better than to mess around from previous encounters. Then again this was near the tunnels of Cape Horn in Colfax California famous for being one of the toughest spots to put the transcontinental rail line thru, supposedly cursed because of all the people that died there, blasting away the cliffside. It's an eery place anyway.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
The woods came to life early one morning. A small village of forest animals, gatherd around for a feast of corn. Blue jays, larks, squirrels, chipmunks, taking turns gathering food, and scampering to and fro. I watch from a point above them, looking across a small footpath that sloped gently down the side of a thickly forested hill. There were a few lines of sight from my angle so I could see it.

The daylight now sets in, and about an hour or so after dawn breaks, I watch an unforgettable scene unfold.

A shadowy figure circles above. High up above the pine tree tops, the figure moves from my sight. A length of time then passes, and the woods have seemed to grow quieter. Out of nowhere to my left, about 50 yards away, I watch this winged figure descend from above in a straight line, and then bank sideways at the last minute before hitting the ground.

Now the show starts. It's movements towards me are like a finely tuned machine. I'm watching it dart rhythmically with short bursts of its wings; every thrust propelling it diagonally in slightly opposite direction. Through narrow passages of thick sapling growth it instantly, effortlessly finds its path. Each time its wing burst would fade, it would then push off again, only inches from the ground, and completely silent except for the occasional wing-burst ... 'WHHIP'...

It approaches me, astonishingly enough, to within 5 feet of my face and at head level. I could now see every detail of it's feathers, claws, and it's beautiful color. At this very same moment, it now turns it head to look at me, and looks me square in the eyes as if to say 'WATCH' ... right before banking hard left at a perpendicular angle away from me.

At this point it's flying directly away from my field of vision, making its final descent down the slope towards the corn village. Only 2 more diagonal wing flaps before it hits the village. 'WHIP', 'WHIP' on the 2nd one, now transforming its body position. Just like leveraging a throwing knife, it swings the bottom half of its body with talons outstretched in front of it ... while spreading out its wings to engulf and block my field of view of the corn pile.

Alas, the final moment of impact.

It was precisely at this moment that synchronicity increased further. Now, directly in the pine tree above the village, a messenger of Spirit arrived and landed atop the tree ... letting out 3 distinct bellows with his head raised to the skies above. 'CAW! CAW! CAW!' ... heralding and maybe honoring the passing of Spirit.

Unfortunately, the village animals had been utterly distracted by the feast and never noticed the silent invader, but I had a front row seat. The little birds had squawked, and squirrels shrieked with surprise. Given they did not stop for 20 minutes, I had assumed it was a squirrel.

The predator in this scene was a Perigran Falcon. The messenger was the Crow.

It was an amazingly intelligent, natural, earthly display of the bird on it's hunt; and seemingly a 'pre-meditation' from beginning to end.

Yet, it was truly a message about instinct ... and to follow it. Use your intuition.

For human beings, this is not a message of hurting or taking the life of another Being,
but to honor your God-given instincts. Know your strengths, practice and perfect YOUR Art.

Nature, in this case, had taken a page out of the Bhagavad Gita for me.

There are beginnings and endings for us on Earth ... but ultimately, this isn't the case.

The CIRCLE of Life continues and Nature knows that better than we do:)

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Forest story #4:

I was in high school and I would spend a lot of time in the woods behind our house. My family actually lived in a suburb, but it was the north-most point of the suburb and was adjacent to privately owned property that was nothing but forest that stretched for miles. I thought it was awesome and I would walk through it all the time, and despite the fact that I was in a suburb with lots of kids, I never saw a SINGLE one of these kids go into the woods. I think this was just a testament to how boring and uninteresting kids are in contemporary society, they just sit around and play video games and never go outside.

Anyway, one day I was far in the woods, sitting against a tree and reading the book "Illusions" by Richard Bach. As I was sitting there, I looked over and saw an old lady in turn-of-the-century clothing, like Little House on the Prarie. She was wearing a long grayish dress with little flowers and a bonnet. She was gathering stuff from bushes near the ground.

I'm generally prone to over-imagination and I wondered if maybe she was a ghost. She eventually saw me and walked over to where I was sitting. She asked where I came from and I was embarrassed to say the name of the suburb (I guess because I was ashamed of living in a suburb) and so I just gestured in the general direction of my house.

She then showed me the plant she was picking, which she was collecting in a basket. She asked if I had seen it and she said its name, I can't remember the name but it was something like "blackroot", which is the name of this plant in that 80s movie Willow. I told her that I hadn't seen any of it and so she walked on, going about her business.

Later on I decided to follow her in the direction she had walked, but I was unable to find her.

I go for walks in wooded sections in my suburban area and apparently I stumbled upon a homo hook-up spot. I move silently in the woods and out of the corner of my eye I see a guy standing against a tree and another guy kneeling in front of him. In a flash I figured out what was going on and started to get out of there, which made noise, which caused them to startle and go crashing out of the woods like two frightened deer. Ugh.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
In 7th grade I lived in Mobile Alabama - this town had a very creepy Deliverance kinda vibe.

There was a concrete ditch near our house that we used to skateboard in, it was about 7-8 feet below ground level. The very first day we went there we discovered a dismembered animal lying in pieces in the ditch, with no skin.

Many weeks or months after moving to Mobile, a friend named Sam and I decided to skate along the ditch (away from the neighborhood and into the woods) to see where it would lead us. We followed it for a mile or so into the woods. It eventually ended at a vertical wall of earth and concrete, with two holes continuing forward. The holes were about 5-6 feet in diameter and each had horizontal metal bars stretching across their length right in the middle.

We stood there trying to decide whether to continue, when suddenly we heard a voice coming from the right tunnel. It said for us to "come inside". My friend and I were terrified and totally frozen stiff. Then other voices joined in, it seemed they knew we were terrified and they were laughing, adult's voices and also children's voices. Then an instrument started playing, it sounded like an oboe or a reed instrument.

Here's where it gets weird. We were standing there, not moving or saying a word, and the next thing we saw were several pairs of GLOWING EYES in the tunnel. They were yellowish white, and bobbing up and down as though walking.

There is a minor gap in my memory at this point, but basically what emerged from the tunnels was a suburban family of 5, all on bicycles. The minor gap is that I don't actually remember them getting their bicycles over the metal bars that blocked the tunnel, and it seems like I would've remembered this because it would've been a difficult thing to do.

They were all blond-haired and blue eyed, they looked like a suburb family right out of a catalog. There was a man and woman in their mid-30s with 3 children, the oldest being about 12 and the youngest being about 5 or 6. I remember looking at the youngest child and seeing circles under her eyes, I thought to myself "That girl looks like she's on drugs".

The man held out a small object which I took to be the instrument he was playing. He said, "The next time you hear this, you'll know it is us." Then they got on their bicycles and rode away.

I know that I would've eventually written off this story as my imagination, but the only reason I know for sure that it happened exactly as I'm telling, with the glowing eyes and everything, is because there was someone else with me and we confirmed everything with each other afterwards.

An aryan suburb family of 5 with glowing eyes in a pitch black sewer tunnel in the middle of the woods... what had we stumbled across and what were they doing there? I've always wondered.

Santa-Cruz mtns, a glow-in-the-dark tree, pieces of which we carried as 'torches' to help find the way back out, as it had become VERY dark! Before stumbling upon this mystery light source, you couldn't even see your hand in front of your face.

I was riding my dirtbike in the national forest up in Michigan, a couple miles from the nearest road or house. On one part of the trail there is a steep incline with a turn around a large tree at the top. You really have to stand on the throttle to get up the hill.

Anyway I came ripping up the hill as usual and sitting at the base of the tree was a little blond girl. Probably about 11 years old. I saw her at the last second, thank God, and continued straight off into the saplings where I dumped my bike. Had I started the turn my foot peg would have crushed her head.

As I picked my bike up I said 'Christ girl what the hell are you doing out here?' She just stared at me. Then I said 'Why didn't you move when you heard me coming up the hill?' More staring. I got a little creeped out, started my Yammie, and tore off down the trail.

The next day I saw the same girl walking down the street where I live. She was staring again as we drove by. She saw me pointing at her as I told my wife 'That's her that's the little girl.'

Prolly just some local kid out there smoking pot or hiding from her abusive and neglectful parents. But I still thought it was pretty strange.

In the Fall of 1988 a buddy from work and I went hunting on State park property on the upper end of a lake in Ohio. We were deer hunting and had made our own tree stands and had scoped out the area the 3 weeks b4 the Season opend. We chose our areas and had went into the woods about 2 hours b4 daylight to set up our stands. We setup my buddies spot first and I helped hand all the equipement up to him when I heard footstreps coming toward me from maybe 30 feet away. I whispred to my buddy that something was coming and he didnt quite hear me and I repeated it and he said no way and I thought maybe a deer had heard us rustling around and was coming to see what we were. I always carried a handgun when bow hunting, you never know what you are going to see in the woods of Ohio. (I have had fox, groundhogs and bobcats walk up on me and many MANY deer come from behind) I set my hand on my handgun and suddenly a man wearing nothing but camo coveralls walked right up to me and I asked him what are you doing? He stared at me for about 30 seconds and walked off. I saw no weapons on him no hunter orange as was the law. Nothing.

Kinda sinister that Ohio state passes laws about wht colour clothes a person must wear. Also kind of sinister that buddy thinks it wierd for a person to walk about unarmed.

As I said on page three, a lot of people I have met in the bush probably thought that I was a bit wierd.

In 1993 in the Army I was on patrol with two guys from my squad. We were up in the mountains in an undisclosed area in South Eastern Europe. It was night. Pitch black. We were pulling recon on a border checkpoint down at the base of the mountain.

As we moved our location I walked up on a scenic lookout area and there was a single car parked there. I was surprised to see pavement where we were as it wasn't shown on our strip map. I walked up to the car and there was one guy sitting in the drivers seat. It was so dark that you could hardly see your hand in front of your face but we all had night vision on. I went right up to the drivers window and looked in and saw some chick was going to town giving the guy a blow job. I nearly pissed my pants holding back laughter.

I motioned to my guys to come over. The three of us stood there watching the porno action wondering what we should do. We were less than a foot from this guy and he had no idea. So we took out our flashlights (with red lenses), turned them on and started pounding on the roof and windows. That dude screamed like something out of blair witch project. In hindsight it was probably because the chick bit his dick off. We scared the living shit out of them. I don't think I ever laughed so hard in my life. And they didn't just let out a scream, they kept on screaming and going crazy trying to climb the seats and shit. They didn't know what to do.

We shut the lights off and stepped a few feet away and they kept on screaming. Eventually the dude got that old European beater started and damn near went off the cliff trying to get out of there. Of course we chased them a little ways with our red lights. I bet those two still tell that story.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I got a special wilderness permit to go into an area in the mountains in CA where they hadn't allowed foot traffic in, in twenty years. There were no trails. It was myself and two other Marines and we did it in exchange for seeing if there was a rare kind of trout in the streams up there. I guess the forest service didn't have anyone who wanted to do it. I'm not sure I was set up with this by a friend. Anyway we hiked for two days with no trails using just a map and compass and on the second day we walked around this huge cliff to find a full on cabin with a lawn and solar power and washer and dryer the whole nine yards all built into the rock face of the cliff. You couldn't see it from above so it had gone unoticed for years. We talked to the guy that lived there and he said we were the first people he had seen hike in, in 14 years. He was a retired helicopter pilot and he had flown all the equipment in by helo. He was squatting on federal land and knew it but didn't seem worried. He said he hikes out every two weeks for supplies by a different route then we came in and he showed it to us. We used that route to get back as he had a trail beaten down so the walking was easier. All in all it was pretty cool. The trout the forest service was looking for were in the creeks so it is still closed to foot travel and we never told the forest service about the old helicopter pilot so I would bet he is still out there.

Porn man. When I was in 5th grade, me and two of my classmates went hiking in this hill behind his house and we found an old wooden shack. Inside was a bunch of old porn magazines.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1243759

I found the same thing when I was about 16. It was an old sack with what must had been over a 100 smut magazines in it. there was also a bag with unopened bear bottles in it.

I suspect now that there are demons who this to lead people away from God and get them trapped into a life of pornography. I mean, think about it, who carries porn and bear into the woods and just leaves it there knowing that kids could find it? If someone is an addict and they repent and want to get rid of their sinful stash, wouldn't they make sure that it was burned or at least put out with the garbage... not taken into the woods for others to find.

I was a five year old little girl!

there are monsters in the woods.

The woods aren't to blame, it's your sorry ass parents or your overactive imagination since I've never heard of a five year old out running the streets by herself. I think you're full of dookie.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Are u survivor man (les stroud)?

I make a living walking in the woods. Have done it from Tennessee east, going North to Maine. Then west to Northern Ontario east to Nova Scotia.

Where do you want me to start?

I have done this for over 20 years and never have carried a gun. I do carry bear mace and bear bangers. I have encountered every form of 'normal' wildlife that you can imagine.

From -30 to 100 degrees I have been in all weather conditions. From swamps to bogs to mountain tops, I have seen it all.

I have never seen Big Foot, chupacabras, werewolves, UFOs, nor aliens. I have never been attacked by anything except bugs and yellow jackets. I have come face to face with bears, moose, coyotes, timber rattlers, copperheads. 3 times I have used bear bangers to chase away moose who were curious. I have never used the bear mace.

I love being in remote locations. The more remote the better. I feel more safe there then I do walking down the street.

BTW You said that you used a map and compass. While I carry each, I rarely use them. 100% GPS for me. I use Garmin because it is the best and saves me a ton of time.

So if you want to know anything ask me a question.

Yes like that but imagine the entire inside walls and ceiling of an 8x10 shed covered like that.
