Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Anybody listen to coast to coast am last night? It was a story about a bow hunter who went hunting with 2 friends up at Cisco Grove in Sierra Nevadas in No. Cal.

He got separated (& lost) from his 2 friends so spent night up in a tree. Saw a light in sky & thought it was a rescue helicopter.

Turned out to be alien spaceship and the aliens tried to climb tree up to him. He dropped things on them (and shot his three arrows at them) so they had a robot come from their ship & gas him. But instead of falling he hung in tree passed out. When he awoke they were gone.

It was two researchers who were writing a book about it on the show with George Knapp but they played tapes from the guy that it happened to.

The researchers said aliens go to mountains/woods to gather plants/animals, etc. I used to live down by Yosemite and a neighbor, old widow, claimed that aliens came down to creek by her house and took wild animals that watered there at night. Every one thought she was nuts but I decided to give her benefit of doubt & checked it out and sure as hell the tracks of animals led up to creek but no tracks leading out.

Scratched my head over that one!

Didnt know aliens cant climb trees, nor thier spaceships can beam them off the tree. cool, useful info, im building my tree fort now.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
You asked a question a while back...

Yes the vet confirmed it was a wolf killed horse.

The Fed and the Fish and Game? Yes and No.

How can the answer be yes and no you say?

We called the sheriff on a wolf killed horse, They sent Fish and Game. He knew it was a wolf,(because of the kill site evidence ) but told us it was a wild dog, a pack of wild dogs. (We dont have a pack of wild dogs, but we do have wolves.) His boss did not want a wolf killed horse. so he sent the Fed wolf trapper to prove it was not a wolf. He told us it was a cougar. The vet laughted. A cougar would have scratched him with his claws, ...for one. (The vet told us of doctoring cougar ripped horses.) I learned how a bear kills, a cougar, a wolf... all leave their mark. We have wolf scat, hair, tracks leaving the scene, solid evidence it was a wolf. kill. But politics being what they are, even when a wolf is guilty with solid evidence, he is still innocent. Fish and Game and Fed declared it a was a maybe wolf? But then they said "the wolf" came from the Hemlock Pack. so we play games instead of telling truth when it comes to wolves.

North Central Idaho, we had 18,000 elk. Then we brought in teh Expermental wolf. Imported him. Then we had 2,000 elk, now we have less. The imported wolf tears out the young unborn calf and leaves momma cow elk to die.

The Idaho wolf - -pre - import got alog with us all.The import does not know how to behave. Why bring a bigger 150 lb wolf when the smaller 75 pound Idaho loner wolf was here? Now the bigger wolf will kill the smaller. Even the wolf lover shoud want to save the rare endangered Idaho wolf. He is probablly all gone now- killed by the import.

The import has a tapeworm disease our native did not. The tapeworm disease threatens the health of man, and beast, horse, cow, sheep, elk.

They brought us wolves about 1995, we had wolves which they knew, but things change.

Wolves vary in size and manners. Now we have packs of 25- 30 or more. Teh peopel who live hearer loved teh Idaho wolf. But now? Things change.

Our elk need 15 years to recover, if we had no wolf. Or the old (Idaho) wolf that we had before things changed. People hunt and eat elk so we can't have elk in the woods; agenda 21 get the people off the land; put folks out of business...

Stay out of the woods. The wolves of Russia are there.
They stalk people...

Why do I get the creepy feeling that most of these wolf sightings go unreported?

NW Massachusetts I saw a mountain lion (i guess) the size of a full grown steer.

It is hard to judge size from memory, but I do remember that its' paws were over a foot wide, maybe 14 inches.

It crossed the road in front of my car....doing an effortless trot at 40 mph.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Years ago when my children were young, my husband and I decided to take them camping for the weekend.

We set the tent up under the shade of trees about 30' back from the river. The area between the river and our tent was clear of trees so we had a great view from the tent area.

We were the only ones camping and it was lovely and peaceful and the kids were having a great time slashing in the river etc. We put them to bed about 10.30 and sat up talking until they were asleep. We wanted them to feel secure knowing we were awake and they had nothing to worry about.

About 11.30 we decided to go to bed. I couldn't fall asleep so after about 15 minutes I told my husband I was going to go down to the river and have a smoke and watch the river flow for a while. I was worried that my tossing and turning was going to keep him awake and maybe even wake the children.

After about 10 minutes at the river I started to get attacked by mosquitoes so after a while I decided to go back and try sleep.

When I walked back it seemed like I was getting about an inch closer to the tent, with every hundred steps. I seemed to walk and walk and walk.I started shouting to my husband but he didn't answer and neither did the children. Finally exhausted, I reached the tent. When I got there my husband emerged and said to me "Your up early" I said "What? I just had the weirdest thing happen to me - I think I am going nuts I haven't been to bed yet" He said "It is nearly 5am have you been down the river all night?'

I still don't know what happened that night except I felt like I had walked for miles, I was exhausted and scared.

My husband thinks I feel asleep down by the river and dreamed I was trying to get back. If I did I have no memory at all of laying down. I stood the entire time and was getting badly bitten that is why I went back.

I saw a huge mountain lion that sauntered in front of my car in Yosemite coming up to Wawona & the south gate. I stopped my car & watched him for as long as I could. He didn't even look my way. It was in the middle of the day and the sun was hitting his coat - what a beautiful sight!

But he wasn't as big as you describe although probably the largest I've seen. Scary! I used to see a lot of them down in that area - lived just 5 miles below the south gate & they were all over those mountains. Most are really not large at all but every once in awhile I'd see a "Lion King".

Have a story about a large one and my mother that I'll tell in another post here in a little while. It's scary but also hilarious - talk about close encounter!

Anyway, dd it act hostile at all or pretty much ignore you?

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Greatest and scariest thread ever

Here's my story

Hiking with friends near Old Man's Cave in Southern Ohio. We went waaay off trail and out in the middle of nowhere we see a young woman walking with a crying baby in her arms.

She went on her way and we went on ours, not thinking anything was amiss.

After walking around the woods for several hours...lost, really...we came upon a road and hitchhiked back to the car, parked several miles away.

Dude dropped us off at our car. We were so relieved! Then, we saw the strangest thing...

We saw the same young woman walk out of the woods, walk to a car, and drive away.

She didn't have a baby in her arms anymore. She was alone, and she drove off down the road.

True story.

It looked to be on a mission, dead strait path constant speed. It didn't waste any time or energy moving around the brush it just plowed right over it like a friggen tank.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I have another story from my mother, who tells of something that happened in the woods to her siblings. It was a creepy story that they often remembered through the years, and with the advent of the internet, I've been able to read the actual news accounts from that time.

My mother's family had acquired a farm a few miles outside of the small city where I was raised. The year was 1933. There was much acreage filled with beautiful trees and little rolling hills. The kids would set out together exploring the woods. One warm June day, four of the children set out for an adventure in the woods. Thelma was 11 years old, Kathleen, 9, Buddy 7 and Maurice was 5. As they played and chased in the woods they suddenly came across an area that smelled very bad. The worst thing they had ever smelled. They were so overwhelmed by it they ran immediately home to tell their parents. Thinking that kids would be kids, yet indulging them, their father set out to follow them back to the smell, but they could not find the exact location again and he chalked it up as an event to forget.

A few days later, the Sheriff drove up to their farm. He quietly talked with their father out front. He told him that his neighbor, in his search of a small pig that had runaway, had stumbled across a body in his woods earlier that evening.

Mr. Gregory was 38 years old, a veteran of World War I, and had found desperately needed work with the CWA. (The CWA was part of Roosevelt's "New Deal" that existed from 1933-34 to provide temporary jobs for the unemployed.) He then took a job as a farmhand and was said to be in good spirits and in good health. But one day, he reported for work on a Sunday, changed into his work clothes, and left. When he didn't return, family and friends searched for him to no avail.

He had walked way into the woods, crossing onto the next property. In his blue overalls, khaki trousers, blue overcoat and cap he fastened a noose for himself. He tied it to a large tree, stood on a little hill, then swung out to his death. Authorities estimated he had been dead the ENTIRE four weeks he had been missing when they found him. His family was only able to confirm his identity through his shoes and cap.

It was to their great luck that the children playing in the woods never actually SAW what was causing the bad smell on that hot, sunny June day; but it was a smell that would trouble their minds well into adulthood.

When I was a teenager I was hunting for golfballs in these woods next to a field, and there was a stream and some skunk cabbage nearby... All of a sudden I see some skunk cabbage rustling about in the distance and I cannot immediately make out WTF I'm seeing. I got a quick glimpse of two large turtles fucking! Then I got the hell out of there.

You have experienced something like this? WOW! Thanks for posting. I have never heard ot read anything similar. Could you explain more?

It took me about 5 hours to walk about 30'? It can't have. I didn't lose any cognative funtion - nothing happened, nothing scarey, no aliens or monsters - other then I seemed to walk for hours in the same spot almost. I sure felt phsyically and emotionally as if I had.

It is crazy! I have never experienced anything like it ever again, and don't want to. My husband is sure I fell asleep and truly that is all that makes sense. It just seemed so real that I can never forget it.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I was solo kayaking on a mountain lake in the middle of BC. Camped on a beach in the middle of nowhere, nothing around. I get bored and lonely sitting by the fire one night so I send out a psychic broadcast at the mountains and the stars, saying

"feel free to come visit me if your intentions are good and your heart is pure. We can learn about each other's lives, share some space, and I promise I will try to limit my fear reaction."

So I wake up in the middle of the night, its very still and very dark and I'm suddenly so wide awake that it feels like something strange is going on. I hear a few knocks out in the distance. I try to fall back asleep but every few minutes there are a few more knocks, like something hitting a tree very hard, and it keeps getting closer fast. At one point I hear more knocks way up the valley in the distance like call and answer. Every set of knocks is like a little phrase somehow, each is different, 2-5 strikes. They get closer and closer until the sound is LOUD and it must be within 100 meters.

I'm scared so I send out a psychic message as loud as I can without actually speaking. "Please leave, please stop, I know you are big because you are moving so fast and knocking so loudly. I can't see you, I'm too afraid to leave my tent, please just leave and don't make any more sounds. Please just leave, I'm so scared"

And its quiet. Perfectly quiet, perfectly still.

I felt very ashamed when I woke up for not controlling my fear response.

bump Perhaps we could expand for people to include stories of things that didn't occur in the woods.

When I was 16, on a weekend night, I had been out with friends and returned home. I came in and saw every light in the house was on but there was no one home. Normally there would be my parents and my older brother. Didnt know what to make of it so I just went to bed. It was about midnight. At 3 a.m. I was awoken abruptly to someone banging on the door. I went out into the well lit hallway. I heard a womans voice yelling my mother's name, Mrs. White! over and over and banging on the door. I could see the door vibrate when she banged on it. I yelled loudly, who is it?? She did not answer but continued to bang and call out. I moved to about 3 feet from the door and while she was banging and calling I yelled back very loud, WHO IS IT?? This time it stopped abruptly but did not answer. I was scared. Nevertheless I leaped to the door and flung it open. There was no one there. I stuck out my head immediately and looked down the driveway, and saw no one. I ran out to the end of the driveway and looked all around. We lived in the middle of a street in a very quiet nice neighborhood. It was very quiet, no motion or noise at all. I thought whoever it was must be still there, possibly hiding in the bushes. Even if they had ran and leaped into a running car and sped away I would have at least seen them driving down the street. They couldn't get away that fast. I stood alone on the street listening and watching for about 15 minutes, waiting to see someone who was doing all that. It was so quiet and there was nothing so I went back to bed. There was still no one else home. My family wasn't the type to go out like that. All the lights and t.v. were still on. I went back to sleep. Maybe a couple hours later my dad woke me up to tell me mom was at the hospital and had had a stroke and was in very bad shape. I never told him about the strange event. It was too weird. Mom lived about 13 more years in a terrible condition from the stroke. I never knew who or what that was knocking. I still remember the sound of the woman's voice.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I was a college student at the time.

I decided to study somewhere else besides the boring library or home.

So, I went to the park which was an open space park very close to the mountains.

I sat under the shade of a large tree as it was a hot spring day.

I was interrupted from my brief nap by a rustling sound several feet away. There was an old river bed, overgrown with tree branches....and the sound was coming from that direction. I focused my attention on this area....

I saw a large cat! It was NOT a cat though it was a mountain lion ! moving very slowly through the tree branches .....

It looked at me from about 25 feet away!

I stood up quickly and started moving away ....the lion, however, was not interested in me and kept moving slowly away down the river bank and disappeared into the bulk of the tree branches...

That would have been very scary at the time. But what a rare privilege to share a moment with such an amazing animal.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
bump Perhaps we could expand for people to include stories of things that didn't occur in the woods.

I have another one. The woods were in the city (a park)and what happened was weird. I'll post it tonight.
Farewell American Samoa, the "last stop of today and just a stones throw from tomorrow"and with that said and done I stood up, standing at the end of the day and walked boldly onward into tomorrow and to the given day of rest.

I have been searching for family members from NY, as I read your post I realized it is not possible we are not related. My Father's name was Maurice and I have an Uncle Buddy,Aunt Arlene, Aunt Katie as well as a deceased uncle Richard and a deceased Aunt Thelma. What are the chances there is another family with a Maurice, Buddy, Thelma and Katie, that grew up in the situation you described?? If this is true, please post back and let's figure out a way to get in touch.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Back in the 70s I was in the wilderness in Northern BC hunting with my uncle. To our surprise we came to a clearing and there was a mushroom shaped house with veggie garden and tools. A hippie girl came out and invited us in for a cup of tea. It turned out they had power, food and everything they needed. They were a couple of US draft dodgers and their girlfriends that fled to the Canadian wilderness. At the time I was astounded at what they had accomplished in such a inhospitable place in just a few years time. I always wanted to go back there to see if they were still there, but I never got the chance.
