RADIO SHACK - ILLUMINATI / MASONIC FRONT? (as SEARS closes)
There are some very smart folks on GLP, so, I would love for a few of them to explain HOW a company like RADIO SHACK is still in business while major powerhouse companies like Sears is going under?!

It is an impossibility. The earnings statements show STAGNANT or losing revenue, over a 4 year period.

Here: [link to investing.businessweek.com]

Yet they are able to be sponsors for NASCAR, have a partnership with T-Mobile (which isn't all that great in terms of rivaling ATT or VZW), they canned 1500 managers out of 5000 in 2004 (there are 7500 Radio Shack locations)... and cancelled their stock options.

Radio Shack gave up selling "Realistic" brand products, and sell only their own brand of batteries, which, in the days of WalMart and Supermarkets, does one REALLY need to go to Radio Shack for average performing batteries (and provide your full name, address and telephone number in order to complete the transaction)?

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW THIS OPERATION STILL EXISTS? On a purely anecdotal level, there are several Radio Shack stores in my immediate location (as if there were a need for more than one) and they always appear EMPTY! HOW HOW HOW does this company even meet RENT requirements, let alone salaries, etc., and yet can sponsor a NASCAR race and other events?

Discuss.....

I heard an interview with the new CEO of Radioshack from about a year ago, and he was describing how he managed to save the company.

Basically, they gave up on the low margin items that Radioshack used to be known for and try to keep their inventories as low as possible.

FREEDOM OF SPEECH:
Alan Isaacman
The People Vs Larry Flynt
"Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, you've heard a lot here today and I won't try to go back over it all. But you have to go back in that room and make some decisions and there is one thing I want to make very clear to you before you do. I'm not trying to convince you that you should like what Larry Flynt does. I don't like what he does. But what I do like is... that I live in a country... where you and I can make that decision for ourselves. I like that I live in a country where I can pick up Hustler magazine... read it if I want... or throw it in the trash, if that's where I think it belongs. Or better yet I can express my opinion by not buying it. I like that right. I care about it. And you should care about it, too... because we live in a free country. We say that a lot, but sometimes we forget what that means, so listen again. We live in a free country. That is a powerful idea. That's a magnificent way to live. But there is a price for that freedom, which is that sometimes... we have to tolerate things that we don't necessarily like. So go back in that room... where you are free to think whatever you want to think... about Larry Flynt and Hustler magazine. But then ask yourselves if you want to make that decision for the rest of us... because the freedom that everyone in this room enjoys... is, in a very real way, in your hands. If we start throwing up walls against what some of us think is obscene... we may wake up one morning and realize... that walls have been thrown upin places we never expected... and we can't see anythingor... do anything. And that's not freedom. That is not freedom. So, be careful. Thank you."

Re: RADIO SHACK - ILLUMINATI / MASONIC FRONT? (as SEARS closes)

I saw that thread after I posted mine, which is now even makes the question more relevant. That thread was created about 2.5 years ago... and yet, Radio Shack is still here. Even though the question was raised several years ago with some very good commentary back then.

Radio Shack lost its main partnership with RCA products in 2000, they are counting on "batteries" and hit-and-miss cellular agreements to keep afloat? One recent trek into Radio Shack I was witness to someone purchasing a cell phone, and having a plethora of problems to get the phone to even get activated!

Here is their leaders... anyone know of these lads?

The new CEO didn't manage to do anything than keep revenue STAGNANT. No growth. I would love to see the REAL numbers.

Possible Purchases:

It has been speculated that Sears management is interested in more purchases beyond the Kmart takeover of Sears and that investor Edward Lampert is interested in the company becoming an investment company more than a retailer. Some of many possible targets are other companies that the management believes have low stock prices relative to company value. Some mentioned are Safeway, The Home Depot, and Anheuser–Busch.[12] The Washington Post, in an article dated March 11, 2007, described the current Sears as a hedge fund with money being diverted from the maintenance and improvement of stores to non-retail financial investments.

Part of the answer is that they don't have the overhead. Their stores are small and are mostly in small shopping malls so their rents are cheap.

Sear here in Melbourne usually only has about 17 people in it at any given time and 12 of those are employee's.

We are shocked it remained open all these years.

Even if rent were a few thousand per store per month, with 7100+ stores, this adds up to a lot of overhead, not including utilities, etc.

Comparatively, Sears has only 1/4 the locations, although most properties are vastly larger in size. My guess is the overhead costs almost balance out, with Sears likely paying more for anchor store locations.

Sears also does a vast online ordering business, not to mention auto repair, tires, etc in many locations. The two business models are completely different, with Sears also holding Discover Card as Consumer Credit provider.

Radio Shack, has limited product, multiple locations, poor revenue flow, and yet, spends money on large events such as NASCAR and appears to be remaining as-is for the forseeable future.

Given the history of threads I've now seen on GLP which I didnt see when I posted this, the question still remains how little Radio Shack, with limited revenue, is still alive and well, when Sears, with a much better Asset / Liability ratio doesn't appear to be doing so well.

Is it that Sears invested in short term investments that didn't do well? That appears to be the only line-item that tanked from 2007-2012. Or did KMart become a cement shoe and drown them in liabilities they couldn't cover.

Either way, Radio Shack simply cant be existing this long without assistance.

Who works there and actually knows the real story? Spill it please....

Who the hell shops at ShitShack anymore?

All of their stuff is overpriced junk. Most of the same items you can find online or a local electronics store for about 1/3 the price.

The last Radio Shack I went to had one customer in a mall that's virtually dead most of the time since a Wal-Mart moved into a vacant section in another part of the mall. The vacant section used to be a Montgomery Ward store.
