The duck forgot to mention the Satanist societies conjure up the spirits using these symbols. They invoke the pentagram to bring the spirit (fallen angel or Satan himself) thru the symbol.

Like the cross comes from sun worship. They would look at the sun and the cross became the symbol of the sun. Likewise the pentagram and otherwise harmless symbols are turned into objects of worship.
