In one of the parts they talk about how the blue morphing creature is in all aspects of our culture and where does it come from. They also talk about the checker board floor being it being representative of dark and light. How we have an opposite reality that wages against our present one. That when one looks at a negative of a picture they see a bluish figure.

This being said they theorize that gateways are set up to let this jinn or demons into out reality.

this is why I'm shaking my head. I must admit the way the film maker put it together was intriquing.
